Ubuntu Networking :: Draytek Vigor 2710n VPN And DynDns
Mar 4, 2011
I'm trying to create a VPN-Tunnel so that I can access my home-LAN via internet. I've got a Draytek Vigor 2710n Router and a T-Online Internet connection.
For the reason, that my WAN IP changes about every 24h, I've registered at www.dyndns.org. When I've understood dyndns correctly, my router tells my ddns host, which WAN IP it has and my VPN clients requests this IP from the ddns host? What ever, I activated DynDns and created an account. Provider is dyndns.org, type is dynamic. Domain name is XXXX.dyndns.org. Username and password is set as given by www.dyndns.org. When connecting and checking the log, it seems to work as the result is:
"DDNS is updating
A= "username", H="address given by dyndns.org", U=1
Connecting to the DDNS server
Return Code= good (IP Adress)
Updated successfully."
Anyway, I'd like to start with PPTP, because it seems to be the easiest and most compatible solution (although not the savest).
I'll begin with my router's setup. I've activated PPTP VPN Service. Dial-In Authentication is PAP or CHAP. Dial-In Encryption is Optional-MPPE. Mutual Authentication is off. Next is the Dial-In Users setting. I've created an account. Timeout is 0. Dial-In Type is PPTP. Username and password is configured. That should be all concerning the router.
Now, I'm trying Ubuntu 10.10 to create the VPN tunnel. Gateway is XXXX.dyndns.org Username and password as setup in the router's menu. Authentication method is MSCHAP and MSCHAPv2. Use Point-to-Point encryptions is activated. Security is Default and Allow stateful encryptions is activated as well. Next 3 checkboxes are unchecked and Send PPP echo packets is activated.
Well, it doesn't work. I must admit, I'm a noob at VPN, but I really don't have a clue, what I'm doing wrong. Perhaps you can tell me?
does anybody know of a compatible driver the the wireless usb vigor600 it has an atheros chipset (AR5523A).Have tried madwifi but doesnt appear to work with usb devices.trying out fedora after spending an hour or so trying to find a Linux driver..... moved to linuxmint to give that a try and it has a nice little app that lets you easily use windows drivers using ndiswrapper (never hear of ndiswrapper before this)...... pretty sure you would be able to to this on fedora but its to late now seeing as i have installed mint, next time i re-format i will be sure to look into this more and let any of the fellow noobs out there know how its done......
I have just installed dyndns in my local ubuntu server runing on apache...I dont have static Ip's so I have to use ipv6 ip's how can I configure dyndns to run with ipv6 ?
I've recently set up an Ubuntu server and from within the network I can do several things like: log in via SSH, transfer files via FTP, and remotely control Torrents from other computers. My end goal is to be able to access these services by using my dyndns hostname (example.dyndns.org)from an external network.
When I type my dyndns name in my web browser it opens up my router page. How would I set things up so that I can just type my dyndns hostname to point directly to my server, instead of the router page?
All computers are connected to a router which is connected to an ADSL modem, with automatically assigned I.P addresses.
I've only installed Ubuntu 10.04 Server yesterday, and it was the first time I had ever used it. As far and I can tell I have my Apache server up and running. When I go to localhost I get the 'It works!' page.
I tried checking my port in Windows, after I have Xampp loaded up, it says the port is working fine, and the site loads up properly, which leads me to believe the problem not in my router.
I've installed ddclient and put the proper information in as far as I can see but it still doesn't work. I've been testing my port here: [url]
If you are running a home server/website, and want a domain name, currently you can use dyndns and others etc. to get a free one and use that so people can find you by name. So my question is, can it be done on your home server without having to use eg dyndns or others.
I have setup a web server, ftp, ssh with ubuntu server which is working with phpmyadmin and webmin installed with it as well. (I am considering upgrading to 10.04LTS when it comes out)
However I cant get to my website with the domain name that I am using from dyndns. From on my LAN I can get to my server but using it ip address (10.10.0.200) and it work fine with ssh and ftp as well. But when I try my public address or my name it does not work. I am using IE8 as I am using a windows machine. Out side the network the domain name wont work at all, but I tried my public address and everything worked perfectly.
I have recently installed ddclient to see if had made any difference but no luck. But I am keeping it there as it is working and updating my ip address.
I have ubuntu 9.10 and using dyndns by apt-get install ddclient but when my internet disconnect and my real ip changed it wont update automatically i have to go to computer and type in terminal ddclient then it get update ....is there any way to get it update automatically.
How should I set up my webserver when using dyndns? My server lives behind a private router, and I opened a nonstandard port for it (xxx.dyndns.org:6789)I need to be able to access the webserver both from behind the router, and from outside. But espescially wordpress needs to have a defined specific site-url for each site, which I can not get working both inside and outside the router. Inside I now just just the local ip-number, which works ok. To access the server from outside, I have to redefine the site-url to "xxx.dyndns.org:6789", but then it is not accessible from behind the router.
I do not know a lot about Ubuntu Servers, but I made one. I wanted to set up a web server using Apache and DynDNS. So far, I have created an account on dyndns.com and installed apache. I also installed another program (i dont remember the name) that had something to do with DynDNS. Right now, I can access the page on my server by using eLinks (text based web browser) and going to the address (myaddress.dyndns.org). If I try to access it from any other computer, I get a page that says 'Unable to Connect'.
I just switched to Ubuntu from Win7 and want to setup VPN connection to my office network. On windows I was using SonicWall Global VPN client using details:
how is it possible to serve multiple sites hosted in my computer with apache through dyndns.I am using ubuntu 10.04 and i had setup a dyndns domain as of mydomain.homelinux.org/127.0.1.1 medic. Now when i go to mydomain. homelinux.org outside of my lan i see the default site of apache.
I am trying to remotely update my dyndns using the commandwget --no-cache h ttp //$USR:$PWD@$DYN_HOST/nic/update hostname=$HST&myip=$MY_IP(the h ttp : // is because I can't post links yet...)when "MY_IP" is my remote computer's ip,but the dyndns seems to ignore this parameter.. It updates the "real" ip that I have in the computer that running that command..I read previous threads an saw that someone used --no-cacheSo I tried that and it did not work for me.
Is it possible to open dyndns port at iptables?I have a remote server which is cenots 5.5 x86 and uses iptable rules. And my local pc is windows 7 x64 and have a dyndns address as mypc.dyndns.org.I want to connect local pc with mypc.dyndns.org to remote server with iptable rules as follows.Quote:
# Xmanager -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -m state --state NEW -m tcp -p tcp --dport 6000:6010 -s mypc.dyndns.org -j ACCEPT
I have a registered account with DynDns, and every month I am sent a reminder that my account will expire because it is not in use (i.e. inactive). I think the problems stems from my system's inability to register itself on a periodic basis using ddclient. This is the error I am getting:
Code: Mar 4 06:53:09 iceland ddclient[2352]: WARNING: cannot connect to checkip.dyndns.org:80 socket: IO::Socket::INET: Bad hostname 'checkip.dyndns.org' When I ping 'checkip.dyndns.org', I do so successfully. I can also connect to its port 80 (using a port-scanner application I developed). So why the error? I get the same error message every 5 minutes. I have a Fedora 9 OS. Below is the relevant portion of my /etc/ddclient.conf file (with the username and password changed for security purposes):
Code: ... ## To obtain an IP address from Web status page (using the proxy if defined) use=web, web=checkip.dyndns.org/, web-skip='IP Address' # found after IP Address ... Somehow I feel that the contents of /etc/hosts may be responsible for the error, but I'm not sure.
Code: # Do not remove the following line, or various programs # that require network functionality will fail. 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost iceland.localdomain iceland ::1 localhost6.localdomain6 localhost My system's name is 'iceland'.
I should say that I'm not an expert of linux or sendmail. On my way to learning I'm trying to setup my sendmail server at home using free dydns account(server1.dyndns.org). I can send and receive emails to/from @hotmail, @yahoo, @gmail (the ones I've checked).
Code:
Following is access file (access.db created using makemap hash)
Code:
Now I'm trying to forward emails coming to my local inbox(tux@server1.dyndns.org) to my hotmail account. For this to work, server1 should be able to RELAY messages originated from hotmail.com, so I added hotmail.com entry to access file. Also I've made ~/.forward file:
But the problem is I receive an error message in /var/log/maillog & also a message is sent to root@server1:
I have an Ubuntu Server, a dyndns account and an account with [URL]. My DynDns stuff is all working just great - novo.dyndns.tv is the address. Now I need a domain which I have already bought, to be linked to that machine at [URL] I signed up with freedns.afraid.org and now I am a bit confused at what records to add where. I added a domain - [URL] then setup a webforward as follows: redirect from [URL] and redirect from[URL] to [URL] , however if you go and visit:[URL] you will see my problem! It takes you back to [URL] server and says there is not a webforward setup for [URL]This tells us that the nameservers are all setup fine - and its something in my freedns config which is failing.
A week ago or so neither ssh nor scp were working when attempting to connect to my on-campus computer from home. ssh was complainig about the key not matching and I figured out I could just delete the config file it was reading the (now old) key from and let it create a new one with the updated key upon prompting me whether or not to trust the remote host.
However, even though ssh is now working, I can no longer use scp. I issued scp -v and discovered a bunch of errors. scp prompts me for the remote password and even prints the message of the day on the remote computer but then just hangs and doesn't seem to be copying any files. I'm sure the issue is with the whole key change issue but I can't quite figure out why ssh would be working just fine and scp would be failing.
I have recently developed the need for having a file server and am interested in setting up my desktop as a Samba File Server. The problem is that I need to be able to access it from outside networks (physically I'm about 10 miles away from my home network),o I need to also set up some sort of DynDNS service so that I can access the server from anywhere. With this, with setting up a DynDNS, setting up Samba, and setting up my machine to be secure enough for these types of actions. (I just want to make sure it is secure enough since it will need to be detectable from the internet.)
I am using dyndns to keep track of my smartphone's ip address. The idea is to be able to ssh into my home network, protected by an iptables firewall. If I use the command: # iptables -I INPUT 9 -s myname.dyndns.org -p tcp -m tcp --dport 22 -j ACCEPT it updates using the current ip address, but the next time I get an ip address update to my phone and update dyndns to properly provide nslookups, this is not being updated in iptables unless I restart my firewall. Is there a better way to do this?
I have configured connection properly through mobile phone (SonyEricsson C510) by bluetooth. I get dynamic IP address and can ping everything but can't ping my IP adress which was automaticaly granted, from outside. SuseFirewall is stopped.
I have proftpd set up on my linux home server. As I have a dynamic IP at home, I am using DynDns.org to provide a hostname for me. I have told proftpd to use this address as the MasqueradeAddress, to allow passive FTP connections through my NAT router.
However, whenever I boot my server, proftpd fails to start saying it cannot resolve this address. I assume this is due to the boot order, as something network or DNS related hasn't started up by then and it can't find the address. How should I deal with this problem? Can I get proftpd to do its checking for the address later on? Or can I change the startup order so that proftpd is started as the final item in the boot sequence?
I have been trying to set up a home mail server with postfix ever since I can remeber. Im yet to find a good tutorial for this. I dont have a static ip address or anything so this has to be done with the help of dyndns free account. good and convincing tutorial in order for me to do this. OS- Redhat5 or fedora
I am having a heck of a time trying to find directions on networking my two computers together in order to share files. I have two machines running Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop & Netbook remix.
They are both connected to my wireless router to connect to the internet.
