Ubuntu Networking :: Failure To Make Rt2570 Driver

Jan 18, 2011

I am inquiring about an error i have run into when i tried to make the driver "Ralink 2750 usb enhanced drvier". I downloaded it from this site [URL]... My wifi card according to lsusb is a 2570 Ralink Technology, Corp. 802.11g WiFi. I extract the package inside my /home/user/Downloads directory, using tar -xvf /home/user/Downloads/rt2570-k2wrlz-1.6.4.tar.bz2 That works fine and extracts the file, but once i change the working directory to /home/user/Downloads/rt2570-k2wrlz-1.6.4/Module and run the 'make' command, i receive the following error.

I am trying to install a RaLink RT2570 USB Enhanced Driver for my Linksys WUSB54G that I found the driver here:I understand that I have to install full kernel source (I'm running CentOS 5.4 i386). Networking :: How To Make Nslookup Return Failure If DNS Server Fails

Mar 23, 2011

I'm trying to find a command to tell nslookup, "I want you to try to resolve hostname X using DNS server Y, and if the lookup fails, just output failure do NOT fail over to some other DNS server as a backup and use it to try to resolve the same hostname."I'm trying to follow the man page instructions for doing this, but it doesn't seem to work. The man page for nslookup on my system (CentOS 5.5) includes the line:

"[no]fail Try the next nameserver if a nameserver responds with SERVFAIL or a referral (nofail) or terminate query (fail) on such a response."But if I try using that option, the output seems to indicate that after the lookup failed on ns1.afraid.org, nslookup failed over to 208.67.220.220 (the first nameserver listed in my resolv.conf -- an OpenDNS nameserver) and used it to resolve the hostname instead.

So far, I've figured out that 'Error 2' basically means any of probably a zillion or two possible errors. The line I have in bold is obviously the one. I have searched, dug, probed, but can not work out what it means or where to start fixing it. Reason I'm bothering at all is that yes, the Realtek card worked 'out of the box' but is pretty unreliable, a third and less the speed of the other machines in the house

Ubuntu Networking :: How To Make/compile The Driver For A Wireless Card

Feb 16, 2011

I've been trying to make/compile the driver for a wireless card. The card is usb, it's titled Micronext MN-WD550M and seems to use the rtl8712 driver.Firstly, though I did this once two years ago I seem to have completely forgotten how to install a driver in ubuntu.

Secondly, I'm not sure I have the right driver anyway since in the notes in the readme it says it is for i386 (I run amd 64). The driver is here [URL] Thirdly, after clicking through various readmes and documentation without feeling any more intelligent, I then tried using ndiswrapper to install a windows driver and ubuntu would crash if the usb wireless card was plugged in. Blarg.I feel like this should be so simple I'm going to make a clean installation of ubuntu 10.10 shortly (for various unrelated reasons) so anything I messed up with ndiswrapper should be back to normal.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Failure To Install Nvidia Driver?

May 7, 2011

I'm having issues installing the nvidia-96 driver package on the new Lubuntu 11.04. I have a GeForce4ti 4200 card and have had that driver package install successfuly on numerous flavors of Ubuntu over the years.

apt-get spits out the following error:

Code: The following packages have unmet dependencies: nvidia-96 : Depends: xorg-video-abi-8.0 but it is not installable Depends: xserver-xorg-core (>= 2:1.8.99.905-1ubuntu3) but it is not going to be installed
Meanwhile, a check of the currently installed xserver-xorg-core through apt-cache shows:

The nouveau driver does work, but I would really like full 3d acceleration like I have had in the past.

Ubuntu Installation :: Nvidia Driver Lucid Mythbuntu Failure ?

Jun 30, 2010

Had mythbuntu/xbmc running for 4 months with vdpau and all the same hardware. I killed it with an update and thought it'd all be easier To build it the 2nd time -- wrong! Fresh install of mythbuntu lucid off cd, Asus p5g43t-m pro, nvidia gforce 9500 gt

What I tried so far...Different drivers with the hardware app thingee. Multiple times -- Purge nvidia, purge nouveau, blacklist list of other video stuff with extra line after, stop gnome, manual install various drivers - 195.xxxxx or Synaptic install various drivers. Tried updates, adding avenard and daily build repos. Everything in combinations. Outcome remains consistant. Lo res error start, can't load nvidia driver, selected but not in use, xorg.conf needs editing.

I'm getting the same error messages as the common nvidia help posts describe but the solutions aren't working for me.

4 days of this, 3 installs plus a shot at Mint, and no progress. I'm pretty frustrated. I'd consider returning to karmic if I didn't think the updates would pork the nvidia driver all over again.

Last install of 9.10 there was a required edit of vmalloc=256M and a shut off of cx18. That's been fixed in lucid? What else ccould it be?

Fedora :: F14 NVidia Driver Installation Failure

Nov 9, 2010

I have followed the Nvidia driver guide exactly. I did not see any errors during the four-step process. However, on the last reboot the system gets as far as the fedora "f" on the startup screen and hangs. This appears completely fatal. I have tried the procedure a couple of times now and the result has been to reinstall Fedora 14 from scratch each time. I have been able to access the system files after the crash using the system rescue option on the installation disk. I am on the Gnome X86_64 installation. My graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce GTS 240.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: ATI Catalyst Graphics Driver Install Failure In 11.3

Sep 17, 2010

I tried to install the ATI proprietary driver for an HD 5800 (Catalyst for Linux 64 bit, v. 10.8). The two main instruction sites are:

SDB:Configuring graphics cards - openSUSE
SDB:ATI drivers - openSUSE

I chose the hard way method. I downloaded the driver. Restarted SuSE 11.3 in mode 3. And as SU followed the method above, including adding the zypper programmes (which found some already installed and which installed a whole lot more). When I then attempted to run the install (sh ./atidriver-install-10.8-x86.x86_64.run) and selected automatic mode. It completed 82% and stalled attempting to install "Postprocessing Kernel Module".

I pressed control c to kill the process and attempted to re-install using the manual mode and then using the build mode. In both instances, same outcome. When I rebooted, and entered my password, the desktop did not load but sent me back to the username/password page. I can't get back in. Does not matter as I have backed up my docs.

I decided to install the proprietary driver because the colours on the desktop corrupt after the 2nd boot following a clean install. i.e. on the initial boot the colours are fine. Second, this is the 3rd effort I have made to install the driver after a clean install of SuSE 11.3 and there is no change in outcome. So, my question: anyone any suggestion what is going on and how I can install the driver successfully? Or, do I not understand the new regime in SuSE 11.3 and should I not attempt to install a new driver.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Nvidia Driver Gives Gdm Failure On Fresh 11.4/Gnome Install (GT430 Card)?

May 8, 2011

I have spent ages looking at similar problems but not not quite the same. I have installed 11.4/Gnome (x86) and wanted to use my GT430 card. I went here: 'http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:NVIDIA_drivers' and used the 'one click' install for current cards. All went ok until I rebooted and I got a 'gdm[1239]: WARNING: GdmDisplay: display lasted 0.846578 seconds' message. I got five of these in succession until the 'gdm[1239]: WARNING: GdmLocalDisplayFactory: maximum number of X display failures reached: check X server log for errors' appeared and it popped me down to an init 3 login.

So, I deleted the blacklisting conf file so that I could get back in to Gnome on Nouveau (which I did ok). I then noticed there was no /etc/X11 Xorg.conf file so I ran /usr/lib/nvidia-xconfig to generate one (which it did) - but it made no difference. I am at a loss know after spending 8 hours on this. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. My machine is still at fresh install state so even if I have to reinstall 11.4 it does not matter.

Ubuntu Networking :: VPN Failure In 10.04

Jul 12, 2010

I have tested it in windows and confirmed that the problem does not lay in the firewall and is just in ubuntu.

Simply what happens is I can connect, or rather network manager tells me im connected. If I leave it for approx 30 seconds it will fail.
If I open terminal services client it will allow me to connect to the server and even get passed the login screen but will just simply fail and the TSC program will crash.

below are a list of forums and fixes I have attempted. I am beginning to think that the open VPN program supplied with ubuntu is completely inadiquate (based on the number of other people with problems) and I cannot see why ubuntu comes shipped with it on CD when it clearly undermines the good work they have done to produce the rest of the OS.

[URL]

Anyway, I have tried using MPPE, refuse-eap = yes

I have tried changing EVERY single option available in the VPN properties and restarting the network after each one.

As an alternative are there any other network managers available for ubuntu 10 that anyone can recommend to avoid using the standard one?

Debian :: Can't Compile A Driver From Source (make Cmd Fails)

Nov 14, 2010

I'm trying to compile the D-Link netcard driver from the official source, and when I first ran "make," I got an error that "make" couldn't be found. So I installed "apt-get install make," then make told me that it needed gcc, I installed "apt-get install gcc." Now make says: make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.32-5-amd64/build: No such file or directory.  Stop. make: *** [LINUX] Error 2 and exits.

I suspect that I need to install some package group which will handle the make and make install (rather than manually trying to fix one hole after another)

General :: Broke Rt3572 Driver For Wusb600n V2 While Trying To Make It Better

Feb 7, 2011

I have been using UBUNTU 9.10 on a toshiba satellite notebook for about 8 months. My first challenge was getting online and staying that way with mobility. I purchased a Cisco Systems Linksys WUSB600N version 2 from the store and brought it home to install on my machine. My first install was successful, to some degree. I followed the instructions that I found here on our forums and was soon on my way.

After a while, though, I started being disappointed with my device's performance. It would frequently drop my connection, and was always reliably slow- even under a good signal. I assume that it can work better, so I proceeded to go back online, and search for a new driver. Herein lies my problem. Instead of searching for ways of optimizing the device performance I opted to install a new driver (which turns out to be the same driver).

I have read threads on installing the driver: [URL] which were very helpful the first time, but in my current position leave me hanging. I have read many pages on many sites trying to avoid posting un-necessarily, but to no avail. I think my problems stem from n00b status, and so I will divulge my symptoms:

1) I did not uninstall the first driver -- don't know if it's a problem, but i'm listing it --

2) I can't fully decipher the README file particularly this part:" 3>In os/linux/config.mk define the GCC and LD of the target machine define the compiler flags CFLAGS modify to meet your need"

# --I have followed steps 1> and 2> successfully, I think.

3) the error I receive when running make in the driver's directory is as follows:

make [1]: Entering directory '/lib/modules/2.6.31-14-generic/build'
make [1]: *** No rule to make target 'modules'. Stop.
make [1]: Leaving directory '/lib/modules/2.6.31-14-generic/build'
make: *** [LINUX] Error 2

I feel like I'm missing something essential in either the 'Makefile' or the 'config.mk' files, but now turn to the help of the community.
