I have a Linksys WAG54G2 Router - this is set up and was working fine with Xp and my Apple I phone.I have just changed over from XP to Ubuntu, and am having difficulty in configuring wireless settings to accept UBUNTU.The hard wired Ethernet connection works fine.
View 2 RepliesOkay, a few days ago I got a small job setting up a router for a neighbour of mine. He wanted me to set up a wireless network for him. The router he bought is a Linksys Wireless N-Router E1000. I set it up the passwords and everything. Only to find out that I couldn't connect at all to it. The main computer with a direct ethernet connection to the router was the only one that had internet. Everytime I attempt to connect wirelessly with any device, it will take extremely long time to connect, to the point where I will just quit connecting.(Example: 15 minutes of waiting, when the laptop is right next to the router)
Any ideas about what I am doing wrong here? As far as I can think of it might just be a faulty router, because the router will not implement any changes(like setting a password) I set on it. Only wired connections seem to work. the router is called a linksys wirless N-router E1000.
Is there a way to configure the Linksys router via my browser (like I do with a 2WIRE router) and if so, how? (the 2WIRE I just typed gateway in the address bar).

I can see the Linksys in network manager plus several other networks in the vicinity. My other wireless devices all connect O.K. to the Linksys, and accept my password.. I can hard wire by ethernet to the netbook. Just wireless is the problem

View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to set up a Linux box as a wireless router to replace our existing Netgear WNR1000 router, as I believe the Netgear does not support the coming IPv6 protocol. Unfortunately, it is not flashable with OpenWRT or DD-WRT presently.
As we have Comcast, our cable modem acts as a dumb modem according to the customer support guy I talked to, and our router is the one that asks for the IP address from DHCP. Thus, when Comcast switches over to IPv6, I don't believe my existing router would work, correct?
My idea is to take a Linux box and put two NICs and a wireless adapter in it, using IPCop or Smoothwall to set up a router. I could then enable IPv6 support for when we have IPv6 with Comcast. Is that possible? Would there be a way to get BIND to hand out private IP addresses in the same subnet on the both the LAN NIC and the wireless card?
I just installed Fedora again, after a long absence. I have been using XP. I am having issues setting up my wireless card Linksys WMP54G. For some reason the card has been recognized, and the interface is there. But I have tried every walk-trough known to Google, and it still won't work. I have been using the GUI tools, but they don't work. I have also been using the command line walk through, and they aren't working either. Does anyone know which files I need to set and what the process would be?

Where I can share files and the printer connected to my desktop. But I want to be able to use Suse in the same way, full time and to stray away from Vista. My wife and kids like easy. I was attempting to configure a wireless card on another computer on my network when it froze during the reboot phase after making settings adjustments. The wired connection is fine, except on that computer that I was making the adjustments from. It won't connect at all. I plugged a friends netbook into the same wired line and it connected. Also there is no wireless signal on any laptops. Mac, Win Linux, don't matter. View 3 Replies View RelatedI am dual booting XP and Ubuntu 10.10 64bit on a Dell Latitude E6410 and I have a Linksys WRT120N router connected to my Modem.
So the weird thing is, under XP I can use the internet while connected to my router. Under Ubuntu I can't use the internet while connected to my router. But I can use the internet in Ubuntu if I connect to my neighbor's router called "linksys". So something happens when I connect to my router that makes Ubuntu not able to access the internet. But if I'm connected to my Neighbors router or if I use XP while connected to my router I can use the internet.
I have been using Ubuntu for about a year, so I'm getting better but still a noob. I've tried to figure out what's going on by looking at other forums and posts and trying to see if anyone has solved this. So far I've had no luck. This is also the first of many problem I have encountered that I have been unable to solve using online posts, and is the first problem that I have had to resorted to creating a post to try and fix.
I am net to this whole Linux thing. I cant seem to connect to my Linksys router. Not sure if I have to call Linksys or what.Mine is a WRT54GS

I run OpenSuSE 11.3 and XP on one computer but I have several (3) wireless laptops in my house plus a xbox wireless. I also have 2 other ethernet computers connected to the B version. Can someone provide me with some links/info on how-to. When I did a Google search all I came up with is firmware upgrade...which I've done for the B version. Is it as easy as taking out the old...configuring the new?

time to live (max idle time)
redial
Max idle time is now set at 10 minutes. The redial is grayed out. Are these the settings I should be concerned about?

I have a linksys router in my basement and physical access is pretty much blocked by a stuck trap-door. I could try to shut off the main power switch, but I like to see that as a last resort. The problem I have is that I have an open (no encryption) wifi connection between my pc and linksys router, yet I cannot connect to it. Until a couple of days ago I could connect to it with my android handheld device, my linux laptop, and my windows desktop. All these devices are now unable to connect. I attached the wicd log from my linux laptop. How to gain access to my router again?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running Fedora 13 and I have a linksys WRT54G wireless router [1,2]. I'm having a strange problem. I'm using a computer connected to the router via a wired connection. At intermittent moments the connection seems to stop. I can't even ping the router (192.168.1.1). However, if I make NetworkManager reconnect to eth0 the connection immediately comes back and I can ping the router and navigate to websites. If I wait a random amount of time the connection also seems to comes back on its own (without reconnecting via NetworkManager). Any idea if this is a hardware (router) problem or a software problem? This didn't happen a month ago.
P.S: I have already updated to the latest firmware (Ver.8.00.8).[URL]..

After I installed a gigabit router, I could not access my nfs server anymore; I tried with the previous physical set-up and all was OK so clearly it is the new router that is the disturbing factor. After some (and then some) experimenting, it would appear that the following specific feature needs to be enabled: Filter Internet NAT Redirection This feature uses port forwarding to block access to local servers from local networked computers. Select this feature to filter Internet NAT redirection. It is not selected by default.
The reason I had simply looked over it is that I did not see how internet nat redirection could be related to the local network. As I read the details, it became clear that it really is but it also raised new questions. Have I now allowed just anyone on the internet to access to my nfs server? Because the description is not very clear either as it mentions both internet and local network. And what is that odd terminology? Filtering allows access, not filtering does not - that seems like the world upside down ...

My son lost his USB Wireless stick for his Computer. I had thought I heard that if you had a second wireless router, you could use it somehow to detect the wireless router you have already set up in your home (like using a wireless card)? Is this what Ad-Hoc is? Either way, can this be done and if so how? I use a WRT54Gx2 Lynksys router and have a TRENDNET TEW-432BRP wireless router and also a spare D-link DI-514. View 2 Replies View RelatedI moved my server and network equipment, and now the wireless works but I cannot get my server online. I host a website, so this is kind of urgent.
I have a wireless router and can access the internet fine on my laptop. My server is wired & connected to the router. It sets up the networking properly.. ifconfig has an ip address, the default gateway is present. But I cannot ping google, or even the router. It says destination host unreachable.
So I go back to the laptop to check the router settings.. sometimes it likes to assign the server the wrong internal ip. But, I can't access the router settings either! The page (192.168.1.1) times out. Same with trying to ping the router. How can the laptop be online if it can't reach the router?
Oddly, ifconfig on my laptop reports an ip address starting with 99.233. It's always given me an internal address starting with 192.168. What's going on here? Is the router not allocating an internal ip? I use wicd to connect, if it's relevant.
We have a windows laptop that can only get a "local connection". Now it does sound like the router is forwarding directly to my laptop, instead of allocating internal ips.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble getting my network set up the way that I want it/had it. You see, when I first set up my network, I just had my cable modem going directly to my standard wired router (A D-Link DI-604), which had DHCP,and was connected to all of the computers on my network. I had one switch hooked up to one of the ports of the router, but this was a regular switch, and it would not try to assign IP addresses, it would just pass through the DHCP info as I wanted.
Now however, my network setup has changed. My room mate and I both got laptops, and we decided that we wanted to have wireless access so we didn't have to constantly plug in to the router.
Now my network is set up like this: The modem is hooked up to the router(DI-604), which is hooked up on the LAN side to our computers, our switch (which is hooked up to 3 more computers), and to a wireless router card (A Gigabyte GN-BC01).
The wireless router card has two jacks for ethernet. One for WAN, and one for LAN. The LAN side we have plugged only into the computer in which the card is installed.
Now the problem is this: The wireless router card comes with DHCP by default, and it's assigning addresses to the laptops and to the computer hat it's in, and worse, the IP addresses are on a different subnet than that of the main dlink router. The Main (dlink) router assigns addresses from 192.168.0.1 (itself) to 192.168.0.254, while the wireless router card assigns addresses from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254 (itself).
Because of this, I cannot access services on the wireless network from my wired network or vice versa. The first thing I tried was setting the card to assign addresses from 192.168.0.12 to 192.168.0.253, however it just said "internal error" when I tried to do this. I decided that this may be because it sees that it was being assigned an address on it's WAN side on the same subnet. So the next thing I tried was disabling DHCP and setting the "LAN IP Address" to 192.168.0.12, hoping that the DHCP would just go through the card, like a switch. I would have set the LAN IP address to be assigned by DHCP, but this was not an option, so I decided that'd be the best thing to set it to.
Once again however, setting the LAN ip address to an address on the same subnet as that of the IP assigned to it's WAN side caused it to report an "internal error". I verified that this was the issue by setting the LAN address to several other private IP addresses to test (I.E. 10.0.0.1, 192.168.3.1, 192.168.5.12).
My question then really is: How do I set up both routers so that I can access services and computers from each network from the other network. Should I set them with different subnets and set the gateway on the wireless network to the main router? To the wireless router card? Should I put them on the same subnet? Will it know how to communicate?

My first Ubuntu/Mythbuntu install. Installed OS, plugged in linksys wireless G adapter. It finds the network but cannot connect. Discovered wireless priviledges while setting up admin/user accounts. Should be ready to go. or not, I'm thinking it needs a driver but
1) in linux? certainly not in Fedora.
