I'm trying to configure my Linksys WRT54G2 wireless router for my DSL connection. I select PPPOE as the connection type and when I go to connect I get the message cannot get ip address from ppoe server.

I was attempting to configure a wireless card on another computer on my network when it froze during the reboot phase after making settings adjustments. The wired connection is fine, except on that computer that I was making the adjustments from. It won't connect at all. I plugged a friends netbook into the same wired line and it connected. Also there is no wireless signal on any laptops. Mac, Win Linux, don't matter. I tried all the various methods of resetting to default but still when I try to access the router's config page @ http://192.168.2.1 I get the error Code: The server at 192.168.2.1 is taking too long to respond.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having problems connecting to my new router. It just does not appear in the list of connections under Network Manager. It is not a problem with my laptop's wireless adapter as I can connect to another wireless router. It is also not a problem with the router itself - my Nintendo Wii can pick it up over Wi-Fi and use it and that is further away from the router. It also works if I ethernet it straight into the laptop.The router was provided by Sky Broadband and is a D-Link, pretty standard type of ADSL router with four ethernet ports, wireless and telephone cable socket. I am using the default settings for the SSID and network key, as well as the encryption type (WPA).Ubuntu version = 10.04. The wireless adapter is a very standard issue onboard Intel device but as I say, I can connect to my old Belkin wireless router no problem.

About a year ago I switched to Kubuntu because I prefer the KDE desktop. Two weeks ago I bought a new laptop: Dell Vostro v13. I installed Kubuntu 9.10 from the live CD and everything worked! Well, almost. I also set up a home wireless network with a new Belkin N+ router from WalMart. When I try to connect to my router, the Plasma Network Manager reports that I'm connected and the assigned IP address, but I'm not truly connected! I can't even ping my own router, all packets are lost.
This problem is intermittent, sometimes I connect fine. I dual-boot with Windoze7 and it connects without problems. Also, if I connect with Windoze, then re-boot into Kubuntu, it seems to "wake-up" the connection somehow and it works. I might also add that I connect without difficulty to other routers in my neighborhood, at work, in airports, etc.My old laptop was also running Kubuntu 9.10, and it connected to the Belkin router without problems, although it was a different wireless card and driver. I also tried Ubuntu 9.10 from the live CD and it also reported a connection, IP address, etc. I couldn't ping the router from that connection either!
We just set up a password for our wireless router (D-link DIR-615). WPA personal. After doing that, I can no longer connect to the internet. I can connect to the wireless router, however. Same problem for the Apple Macs in the house. We called Dlink. The fix for a Mac was to add DNS servers (4.2.2.2) under TCP/IP But there doesn't seem to be anywhere to specify a DNS server in Ubuntu.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI was having an issue with my wireless connection last week, and sometimes even my hardwired connection. It had seemed like every time my PC went into standby, or any low-power mode, the WiFi would stop working. I used the "power off" command and got it back and running. When I boot up the computer in the morning, I am unable to connect until I reset the wireless router. Unfortunately, I did not have the presence of mind to get iwconfig first thing in the morning, but I did reboot the laptop and grabbed iwconfig before I connected and after I connected. Now, for some reason, the router worked when I rebooted, but I had to reset it this morning. Any ideas? iwconfig below:

I've been at this the last 3 hours now or so. I am not a very good with Linux, I am fine with all other areas. I have this laptop, with a Intel Pro 2200BG card. The idea was to install a lxde lightwieght on it and use PCLINUXOS, because its "easy". This computer is for internet browsing and thats it. Under the Network Center -- I can see all networks, including neighbours. When I try to connect to my router via Wireless, I get connection failed over and over.
I then tried doing all the following:
Changing the router from WEP to, WPA, WPA2 personal, WPA2 Enterprise
Changing the SSID, broadcasting to ON, changing the SSID name
I've used various different passwords, and reset the router now about 50 times. I am connecting to my Router (as Ive changed the SSID and noticed it picks up the new name). (Yes I can see the correct MAC addreess). Yes I am on the right channel, all good here.
My Nintendo DS is connecting fine with all the changed settings now. The wireless card worked fine under Windows XP (However I just removed the operating system since I really had no need for it). I've tried every other mode, it works wired. Like I had explained above, I downloaded a what I thought was an easy verison (distro), I was really hoping to get away from the crazy windows life with crazy errors and instability.
I did try enabling display log, and doing it manually by adding a connection, etc. The log tells me about as less would a windows event log: it says
Problems occurred during the network connectivity test
This can be caused by invalid network config or problems w/ your momde / router
Reluanch, etc.
I can connect to the internet fine with wvdial and wvdialconf; heck I am even posting from my PCLinuxOS FM Distro. I want to setup an ethernet connection between two PC's, one running PCLOS 2010.11 FullMonty and the other Knoppix 6.2.0. Knoppix is fine and setting up a connection is simple but with PCLOS I have been having many problems trying to set it up. I tried using the drakconnect tool but it did not work. I tried assigning it a static IP Address but the other PC would still not pick it up and to to it all I keep getting the same error message about problems during the network connectivity test!
I have just installed Linux Mint 8 to an Asus A6000. My problem is that the computer won't connect with my wireless router. I have tried with MAC-adress and such, but still no respons. I also tried to connect with a cable to my modem, but no response there either.
I think I may lack some drivers, to what I think is Broadcom b43, but I am not sure. I tried to download the drivers on my other computer, and transfered them to the Asus. I managed to install 2/4 drivers, but on the two others, I get this message "Failed to fetch ... Couldn't reach archive.ubuntu.com"
I changed the network setting and caused a problem of wireless network. After I completely reinstall the OS of Fedora 13, the wireless network is still incorrect for connection to router.

When I try using the laptop in the next room, it keeps asking for the password and eventually disconnects after 3 or 4 attempts. The wireless connection worked fine in Windows XP.

Yes I have tried manual configuration, and double checking the password, ssid, protocols, and security type.
WPA2 personal is the security type.
There are maybe 4 different ways I know how to connect. The most annoying thing is when this box pops up saying to type in a password for the network connection.. and keeps popping up even when everything is right.
All I need is a reliable, easy, and automatic program to connect me to the internet, maybe even before I log into my system.

This is not exactly Ubuntu question but i don't know where else to ask. I'm trying to setup a Wireless Linux router. My ISP provides multicast IPTV. I've got the whole thing setup'ed with igmpproxy and hostpad. On wired connection IPTV works flawlessly, but on wireless connection IPTV glitches badly and router start to time out. Now I would like to share this connection out through my Netgear WGR614 wireless (and wired) router. Any clues? I've tried the simple (GUI) instructions using Network Manager, but just can't seem to get it right. Previously, I had DSL and this plugged nicely into the WGR614 and internet and ethernet access was had by all. Now, I'm a bit confused on how to get the sharing (ethernet and wireless) between my Ubuntu box and the wired/wireless network while at the same time getting Internet access to all through the Ubuntu box.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am deployed to Iraq and the Earthlink ISP here uses PPPoE to configure a connection to their wireless broadband. His english skills are pretty good and from what I gather, he's got a DSL connection that he's trying to connect me to. He showed me how he does it on a Windows machine but I can't figure it out on my ubuntu laptop. That windows machine didn't need any IP addresses or server names. It only used a username and password to connect. Of course a strong wireless signal detected was also pre-requisite.
I know my laptop works because I've had great success with it here lately, just not on the Earthlink service.I see their wireless is broadcast and I can connect to it. I just can't figure out how to post my credentials and authenticate.I don't see a way of entering my username and password because I don't know how to install (or configure) for PPPoE.I did use the pppoeconfig and got to the part where I add my username and password, but most of what's going on up to and after that, I do not have the knowledge base to use. The symptom is that NetworkManager repeatedly ask for password to connect to my AP.My AP is secured with WPA-PKI. The problem even happens with Fedora 11 live cd if I'm not quickly configure wireless connection using NetworkManager right after Fedora completes booting up. It means if I promptly configure wireless connection, i'm still able to access Internet. Same thing happens for the first boot of Fedora from hdd. For the second boot or when I dont quickly configure wireless connection when system finished booting up, NetworkManger repeatedly asks for password for AP.

My son lost his USB Wireless stick for his Computer. I had thought I heard that if you had a second wireless router, you could use it somehow to detect the wireless router you have already set up in your home (like using a wireless card)? Is this what Ad-Hoc is? Either way, can this be done and if so how? I use a WRT54Gx2 Lynksys router and have a TRENDNET TEW-432BRP wireless router and also a spare D-link DI-514. I use ubuntu 10.04, and also wanted to know if I connected one of the router to his on the LAn port could he connect msaybe through an Ad-Hoc on my local computer here? He uses XP on his. View 2 Replies View RelatedI moved my server and network equipment, and now the wireless works but I cannot get my server online. I host a website, so this is kind of urgent.
I have a wireless router and can access the internet fine on my laptop. My server is wired & connected to the router. It sets up the networking properly.. ifconfig has an ip address, the default gateway is present. But I cannot ping google, or even the router. It says destination host unreachable.
So I go back to the laptop to check the router settings.. sometimes it likes to assign the server the wrong internal ip. But, I can't access the router settings either! The page (192.168.1.1) times out. Same with trying to ping the router. How can the laptop be online if it can't reach the router?
Oddly, ifconfig on my laptop reports an ip address starting with 99.233. It's always given me an internal address starting with 192.168. What's going on here? Is the router not allocating an internal ip? I use wicd to connect, if it's relevant.
We have a windows laptop that can only get a "local connection". Now it does sound like the router is forwarding directly to my laptop, instead of allocating internal ips.
I want to set up a Linux box as a wireless router to replace our existing Netgear WNR1000 router, as I believe the Netgear does not support the coming IPv6 protocol. Unfortunately, it is not flashable with OpenWRT or DD-WRT presently.
As we have Comcast, our cable modem acts as a dumb modem according to the customer support guy I talked to, and our router is the one that asks for the IP address from DHCP. Thus, when Comcast switches over to IPv6, I don't believe my existing router would work, correct?
My idea is to take a Linux box and put two NICs and a wireless adapter in it, using IPCop or Smoothwall to set up a router. I could then enable IPv6 support for when we have IPv6 with Comcast. I went on to the web site what is my ip address and noted down the number, From Home i opened a terminal and typed: pnig (ip address). to which their was no reply, now i'm assuming i need to configure the works router to except connection requests, is this Correct?

I fixed my overscan problem from last time by installing Ubuntu V9.04, the newest version for the PS3. And now I am trying to connect to the internet. Ubuntu does not detect my Buffalo Wireless - G High speed router. I have contacted the Buffalo support and they said that their router is not compatible with Linux. How Can I get Ubuntu to go on the internet? Can I try plugging and connecting the PS3's Ethernet port to my router/modem or will I have to buy a new router entirely? If I have to, what routers out there support Windows, Mac and Linux?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble getting my network set up the way that I want it/had it. You see, when I first set up my network, I just had my cable modem going directly to my standard wired router (A D-Link DI-604), which had DHCP,and was connected to all of the computers on my network. I had one switch hooked up to one of the ports of the router, but this was a regular switch, and it would not try to assign IP addresses, it would just pass through the DHCP info as I wanted.
Now however, my network setup has changed. My room mate and I both got laptops, and we decided that we wanted to have wireless access so we didn't have to constantly plug in to the router.
Now my network is set up like this: The modem is hooked up to the router(DI-604), which is hooked up on the LAN side to our computers, our switch (which is hooked up to 3 more computers), and to a wireless router card (A Gigabyte GN-BC01).
The wireless router card has two jacks for ethernet. One for WAN, and one for LAN. The LAN side we have plugged only into the computer in which the card is installed.
Now the problem is this: The wireless router card comes with DHCP by default, and it's assigning addresses to the laptops and to the computer hat it's in, and worse, the IP addresses are on a different subnet than that of the main dlink router. The Main (dlink) router assigns addresses from 192.168.0.1 (itself) to 192.168.0.254, while the wireless router card assigns addresses from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254 (itself).
Because of this, I cannot access services on the wireless network from my wired network or vice versa. The first thing I tried was setting the card to assign addresses from 192.168.0.12 to 192.168.0.253, however it just said "internal error" when I tried to do this. I decided that this may be because it sees that it was being assigned an address on it's WAN side on the same subnet. So the next thing I tried was disabling DHCP and setting the "LAN IP Address" to 192.168.0.12, hoping that the DHCP would just go through the card, like a switch. I would have set the LAN IP address to be assigned by DHCP, but this was not an option, so I decided that'd be the best thing to set it to.
Once again however, setting the LAN ip address to an address on the same subnet as that of the IP assigned to it's WAN side caused it to report an "internal error". I verified that this was the issue by setting the LAN address to several other private IP addresses to test (I.E. 10.0.0.1, 192.168.3.1, 192.168.5.12).
My question then really is: How do I set up both routers so that I can access services and computers from each network from the other network. Should I set them with different subnets and set the gateway on the wireless network to the main router? To the wireless router card? Should I put them on the same subnet? Will it know how to communicate?

I would like to buy a wireless router that also has a USB connection for a NAS. As NAS I would connect an external HD that has both Linux and NTFS/FAT32 partitions. I am looking for a simple way to share photos, music etc. between computers (some running XP, other FC12), but would prefer to also have access to the Linux partitions from the Linux machines. I was wondering which routers would give access to both file systems. Does anyone know whether Cisco Linksys E3000 [URL] can do this?

I have an open WEP wireless internet connection with a security key. KNetworkManager can never obtain an IP address from my wireless router, but I know that the router works because Windows can connect correctly and Ubuntu's NetworkManager can connection correctly. Does anyone know what is happening? KNetworkManager just asks for my security again and again and again after it fails to connect.

I've installed packages from here[URL].do (iscan) and adding on /etc/sane.d/epkowa.conf the line

No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different, check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages). The scanner option worked fine when my printer is directly connected at my computer.

Those are my authentication capabilities, obviously. I am using a WEP encryption for my wireless router and according to this, it will not allow me to connect. Is there anyway to allow that? The wireless card works just fine in Windows, even on the same network encryption type. Using a Intel Wireless/Pro 4965 ag. Note* this is my mother's router and whatnot. She won't change it the encryption type.
