I am running Fedora 13 and I have a linksys WRT54G wireless router [1,2]. I'm having a strange problem. I'm using a computer connected to the router via a wired connection. At intermittent moments the connection seems to stop. I can't even ping the router (192.168.1.1). However, if I make NetworkManager reconnect to eth0 the connection immediately comes back and I can ping the router and navigate to websites. If I wait a random amount of time the connection also seems to comes back on its own (without reconnecting via NetworkManager). Any idea if this is a hardware (router) problem or a software problem? This didn't happen a month ago.
P.S: I have already updated to the latest firmware (Ver.8.00.8).[URL]..
I've got a Linksys WRT54G v5 router with the latest (1.02.8) firmware. I have two boxes running Slackware 13.1 (one is 32bit, the other 64bit). Both boxes have Linksys WMP54G wireless cards. I run an ssh daemon on both of them so I can access them to transfer files, etc. I am able to ssh from one to the other. But eventually when I try to do it, ssh will complain "no route to host." Rebooting the router immediately fixes the problem. Both of them can still access the Internet, etc., even if they can't reach each other.
As an aside, transfers between the two boxes can be painfully slow--certainly no where near the theoretical maximum. I looked at switching to DD-WRT, but the instructions seemed to be far more difficult than they would be worth. If nobody has a good solution, is there are reasonably-priced wireless router that you would recommend?
I just installed Cable internet in my apartment. Part of the deal was a free Router (a Belkin). Now I already had a router so now I have an extra, and I remembered something I wanted to try If I ever got an extra router.... I read somewhere, that you can replace the firmware of the Linksys WRT54G Router/Switch with a Linux-based firmware.
I want to try this, but I have some concerns. I'm worried about losing my WPA2 Encryption, and connection problems; I have two Linux laptops (Ubuntu, and Fedora 64 bit) which connect Wirelessly, a desktop w/ 64 Bit Fedora 10, and two Vista Desktops that connect via Ethernet. Will the multiple Operating Systems cause a problem?
Situation is a cable modem and a Belkin F5D8235 Wireless-N router (and a computer) are at one end of the property. Approx 150-200 ft away I want to put 3 desktop computers none of which have a wireless card or device. I DO have a Linksys WRT54G I'm not using.I want to hardwire the 3 desktop computers to a switch that is hard wired to the Linksys. Putting a wireless card in one of the 3 computers is not practical because of physical obstructions (a lot of cabinetry, furniture, walls) that the Linksys (which can be at the window) would not have to deal with.
Is it possible for the Linksys to 'receive' the wireless signal from the Belkin so the 3 desktops can share the internet? If not, what could I put in the window to 'receive' or 'repeat' the wireless signal?I know this isn't exactly a Ubuntu question, except that 2 of the 3 computers are 64bit Lucid.

(I can go to the Internet with this server, but not able to communicate other computers on the WRT54G Wireless Network. Even though, the Linux Server is connected to the WRT54G router port.) From the Hyper Terminal Wireless laptop Windows/XP, I want to connect to my Linux Server.
1. My Lunix Desktop is connected via a cable to a port in the LINKSYS WRT54G (my Desktop does not have a wireless card).
2. My EPSON WORKFORCE 600 also is connected via cable to port in the LINKSYS WRT54G.
3. how do I setup Linux Desktop to print on my ESPON WORKFORCE 600?

I run OpenSuSE 11.3 and XP on one computer but I have several (3) wireless laptops in my house plus a xbox wireless. I also have 2 other ethernet computers connected to the B version. Can someone provide me with some links/info on how-to. When I did a Google search all I came up with is firmware upgrade...which I've done for the B version. Is it as easy as taking out the old...configuring the new?

time to live (max idle time)
redial
Max idle time is now set at 10 minutes. The redial is grayed out. Are these the settings I should be concerned about?
I am dual booting XP and Ubuntu 10.10 64bit on a Dell Latitude E6410 and I have a Linksys WRT120N router connected to my Modem.
So the weird thing is, under XP I can use the internet while connected to my router. Under Ubuntu I can't use the internet while connected to my router. But I can use the internet in Ubuntu if I connect to my neighbor's router called "linksys". So something happens when I connect to my router that makes Ubuntu not able to access the internet. But if I'm connected to my Neighbors router or if I use XP while connected to my router I can use the internet.
I have been using Ubuntu for about a year, so I'm getting better but still a noob. I've tried to figure out what's going on by looking at other forums and posts and trying to see if anyone has solved this. So far I've had no luck. This is also the first of many problem I have encountered that I have been unable to solve using online posts, and is the first problem that I have had to resorted to creating a post to try and fix.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOkay, a few days ago I got a small job setting up a router for a neighbour of mine. He wanted me to set up a wireless network for him. The router he bought is a Linksys Wireless N-Router E1000. I set it up the passwords and everything. Only to find out that I couldn't connect at all to it. The main computer with a direct ethernet connection to the router was the only one that had internet. Everytime I attempt to connect wirelessly with any device, it will take extremely long time to connect, to the point where I will just quit connecting.(Example: 15 minutes of waiting, when the laptop is right next to the router)
Any ideas about what I am doing wrong here? As far as I can think of it might just be a faulty router, because the router will not implement any changes(like setting a password) I set on it. Only wired connections seem to work. the router is called a linksys wirless N-router E1000.

I could try to shut off the main power switch, but I like to see that as a last resort. The problem I have is that I have an open (no encryption) wifi connection between my pc and linksys router, yet I cannot connect to it. Until a couple of days ago I could connect to it with my android handheld device, my linux laptop, and my windows desktop. All these devices are now unable to connect. After some (and then some) experimenting, it would appear that the following specific feature needs to be enabled: Filter Internet NAT Redirection This feature uses port forwarding to block access to local servers from local networked computers. Select this feature to filter Internet NAT redirection. It is not selected by default.
The reason I had simply looked over it is that I did not see how internet nat redirection could be related to the local network. As I read the details, it became clear that it really is but it also raised new questions. Have I now allowed just anyone on the internet to access to my nfs server? Because the description is not very clear either as it mentions both internet and local network. And what is that odd terminology? Filtering allows access, not filtering does not - that seems like the world upside down ...
I have a weird issue with source routing on a linux box.The plan goes like this:I have 2 internet providers at my office and i want to use a single router to route them both ( i don't need load balancing or failover). I just want access to either provider based on the ip i use on my pc. The first provider, let's call it RDS, is simple: i've got an RDS_IP, RDS_MASK and RDS_GW.The second provider is complicated, we'll call it INES. I have a INES_IP, INES_MASK, INES_GW and they also gave me a subnet of public ip's: ILAN_NET which i have to route myself through INES_IP.I also have a third nic with an local ip: LAN_NET and an alias for the INES subnet: ILAN_NETthe router has dhcp enabled, giving by default ip's from LAN_NET and using the default gw, RDSI have snat for the LAN_NET to go through RDS.

I need to route packets coming from a standalone switch port which is a mirror ("tap") of another port ("source"). I can't seem to forward packets whose MAC address is for a different device (the actual "target" of "source"). My device is in promisc mode,I can see the incoming packets in tcpdump and Wireshark. The only packets which get forwarded are those which have my MAC destination address (I changed the wiring to come straight from source and not the mirror port, to get "my" MAC address in the packet). My routing table is configured to forward and I have ip_forwarding enabled, obviously (otherwise packets sent to my MAC wouldn't route). By the way, the incoming packets are all VLAN tagged and I have matching subinterfaces.
Q1 - is this inherent, that packets won't get "passed up" to the IP layer unless the MAC addresses match?
Q2 - Would ebtables be a good solution, i.e. rewrite the dest MAC address to my own MAC addr and send to the INPUT target?
I am using Debian 5 and I have some networking experience, however I want to learn to do this the best way possible. I have a Debian box with two nics and I want to connect that to a switch and use my Debian box as a router basically, as well as having a firewall setup within that too.
Should I use iptables to set up nat or the route command or what? I just want to know the group of tools to use in order to set up my network. Network diagram: Internet <------> Debian Box <----> switch <----> hosts I found some guides but they are for linux 2.4 and i'm not sure if they are right.

What I'd like to do is to route all TCP packets coming from eth2 to tun0 where a VPN client is running on 10.0.0.2. If I delete all default routes and if I add a new route to tun0 like :

Everything is fine, and everyone on eth2 can reach the Internet using the VPN access. Now the problem is that my VPN client does not allow any other protocols other than TCP. And I also want to allow VPN access only to eth2, no other LAN nor the router itself. use iptables to filter any TCP packets and mark them, so they can be sent to tun0, while any other packets can reach the Internet via br0 (192.168.0.1). I found on the Internet that we can mark packets before they get routed. Using the following commands :

First of all, --dport 80 never work... :/ I wanted to filter TCP 80 packets coming from eth2, but none of them seems to be HTTP packets... oO (very strange...). Nevermind, I decided to forget about the --dport option. I use the "iptables -L -v -t mangle" command to see how many packets are marked, and it is working fine, all TCP packets coming from eth2 are marked. Now the problem is that none of them are routed to tun0 they are all respecting the "route -n" rules... and not the "table 300" rule I have created.
I use to have problems getting my wireless card to connect to any network on ubuntu. I discovered that I needed to change my encryption mode from Auto to AES or TKIP on my router. After I did this I was able to connect to my network with full wireless n support. I am using a d-link DIR-615 wireless n router.So far I know this works perfectly on 9.04-10.10 alpha.
