I have installed openvpn on an ubuntu 10.04 server. I run 11.04 on my desktop. It can connect to my VPN server. The problem is, I have ZERO internet access. I cannot even ping an IP address.
View 5 RepliesI am using an virtual machine. where I need to ping from one machine to another. earlier I was able to ping. But after going to google.com once, I cannot ping back to this machine.
But if I gave ping -I eth1 <IP> then I can ping.
I cannot install any package, so tell me solution which includes not installing any package.
I've only been using linux for a few days so I don't know all the tricks. I'm pretty savy configuring windows networks however.My adapter is (according to windows) a: CNet PRO200WL PCI fast ethernet adapterLinux says it is a: 21x4x DEC-tulip compatible 10/100 EthernetI do seem to be getting an ip address from the DHCP router, but I cannout ping any other ips or connect to the internet.I've tried a bunch of different options, switching things back and forth, but it still doesn't work, and honestly i don't even know what some of the options mean.

my network expertise is tenuous at best. This started because one computer on my network is having trouble updating Google Toolbar information. This is a laptop which joins other wifi networks outside of the house.

119.92.56.77 - eth0
192.168.50.1 - eth1
with DHCP features from 192.168.50.1 - 254. my problem is i cannot ping this specific IP address which is 119.93.232.234 if you can try there and pinging is ok but here cannot because that IP address (119.93.232.234) they used that to connect to our openvpn which is the IP is 119.92.56.78 <---- this system linux(centos) or IP has no firewall enabled. meaning i separeted this connection. which my setup is like this for OPenVPN

Since two days i m not able to browse websites using the domain names but able to ping/browse using IP addressed. I have done the following:
1. Using wireless i m able to get IP address of DNS (8.8.8., Gateway, localhost & router ip address
2. Disabled wireless and connected ETH0 but still the same problem
3. not able to edit resolv.conf
sudo gedit resolv.conf

I have a server with centos 5 and plesk 9 and I have buy an additional IP address for my server, when i create it in plesk, there is no problem, all its ok I can assign it to a new domain, but the ip only responds ping, none of other services as http, ssh or smtp.I paste here the configuration of files

A brief description of my network:It is a small home network consisting of an Ubuntu 10.04LTS server edition, an Iomega ix2 NAS, a WinXP pro server and several family laptops.This is all routed through a Netgear WNDR3300 home router. All are assigned IP's via DHCP and all but the laptops are static (via DHCP though). The WAN address/DNS is assigned via DHCP from my ISP.The problem:When one of the machines is offline, Ubuntu does not resolve the netbios name correctly. No surprise here. But what is happening is that it is finding some arbitrary machine on another network. Below is what a ping to an offline host reveals:

I run an centos server. From the console I can ping google.com and get a reply. But when I ping another address say xyz.com, the IP address is resolved (11.22.33.44) but there is no reply. In the same network in our office from my desktop I ping [URL] and there is a reply.I turned of the firewall but still the same problem.

So I went do realteak downloaded latest available drivers that seems to be were release yesterday did same command and same error So I made only make and it went fine did then make clean modules and went fine so made make install, depmod -a and modprobe r8169 verify int was up and getting correct ip from router but I'm not able to access the internet or ping any IP address

I have an Acer Aspire One that worked fine with version 9.* of Ubuntu, then I upgraded to v10.1. Now Thunderbird, Evolution, and Firefox (Namoroku?) can't connect, either wirelessly or by Ethernet cable, to my ISP. I get error messages like "connection timed out" or "cannot find {link}". I can PING my ISP from Terminal, though, and I have the machine set up for dual boot with Windows 7 and Firefox works fine under Windows.
I have no idea what to look for or where to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i'm running some virtual Fedora installations on a windows server 2008 with hyper-v. Most of them are Fedora 12 and 13. Everything works fine for some years. Yesterday i want to upgrade a F13 machine to F14 by netistall. The upgrade ran without any problems. After the reebot the machine was off the network. All the networkconfigs by DHCP are OK, IP address, gateways, DNS settings and so on. But the machine can't ping or connect to other hosts. I tried an VM from scratch with both F14 i386 and x86_64 - same ****. This is the first time i had such a problem by upgrading Fedora machines.

I changed /etc/sysconfig/network to include GATEWAY=192.168.1.1 From the internet I have a modem-192.168.2.1, a telecom voip box-192.168.15.1, and then my router 192.168.1.1 I'm able to ping machines attached to the router but nothing beyond that. I tried to get the results for ifconfig via putty on this machine but it says command not found. I can get it when I log in at the box in question though.
I have two machines
1. Ubuntu (static IP 192.168.1.1, running dhcp server)
2. Windows 7 (dhcp assigned IP based on mac - >192.168.1.2)
Now when I fire up both machines, Linux assigns IP to win BUT they dont ping. From ifconfig I know:

Now I get time exceeded icmp every time I try to ping both from linux OR windows...
Tried turning firewall off, i tried port forwarding tcp port 22, but it still doesn't work. Also am unable to ping modem over WAN, i can ping the modem locally though. Tech support claims pinging and ssh is not part of the internet so they wont support it in any way.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just setup a new LAMP server (CentOS 5.5 x86_64) box with channel bonding on NetXtreme II BCM5709 Gigabit Ethernet (IBM x3650 M3). The problem is I wasn't able to connect to this server when I'm in different VLAN's. This server also unable to ping different VLAN's. But everything works fine when I transact in the same VLAN.Here's the config:

As the title suggest, I have downlaoded the latest copy of Ubuntu Server from the ubuntu website.Everything installed fine. DHCP configured ok as far as I can tell. I can ping other machines on my network (which are running Windows) and they can ping the Ubuntu machine and conenct to Apache which is running on it.If I try to ping google.com or any other domain, it gives the correct IP address but gives no response to any pings, dont telnet on port 80 (or any toher potr for that matter) on any machine on the internet. I checked the settings using ifconfig to see what DHCP had assigned, and they matched the windows machines configuration (other than the IP address obvisouly). I tried assigning a static IP, even reserving a particular IP for my NIC.
Whatever I do, i cant connect to any machine outside the network via IP or domain.I have searched everywhere and tried everything i can find on the net but still to no avail.The Windows machines are part of a domain called alcom-uk.local and run off of a Windows Small Business 2003 Server. Not sure if i need to manually setup Ubuntu to connect using a domain or anything.
I know this is not a win-doze forum but i always ask my questions here so here goes.I am having what appears to be a DNS problem on a friends laptop. He is running windows XP. I CAN connect to networks and even ping websites but i CANNOT browse in Internet Explorer or FIrefox.

Two machines with Lucid installed last week, both installed with the same standard settings. One machine can see the network and both itself and the other machine, the other PC cannot see the first machine or itself. In the Network window all I get is a folder saying 'Windows Network' and clicking that ticks away for a minute or so before saying error, cannot connect to it.
On both machines I have created a shared folder on the desktop to trigger an installation of samba shares which has happened.I cannot connect to the other PC by entering its IP address into location either.
I have a problem with Samba. I've already configured my SMB.conf file, but I can't connect to my Windows shares by their host name. for example: if I try to connect to GDEA73-PC-1 share = netshare, server connection fails. if I try to connect to 192.168.1.171 then share = netshare, it works. How do I fix this? When I run findsmb, I am on the GDEA73 NETWORK workgroup as I configured, but my local PC is the only one on it...

i have successfully changed my MAC address. By doing:

When I do:
ifconfig wlan0, it shows my new MAC address.
After changing, I cannot connect to the Internet. I have already disable mac filtering in my router. What did I miss out?

I recently setup motion on one of my computers with a USB camera. On that computer if I type [URL] I can see my live video. If however I type [URL] on that computer or any other on my wireless network, I get a page cannot be displayed. I checked that UFW was disabled and I am able to ping the motion computer from any other computer on my network. Also I am not sure if it matters but I do have apache installed on my motion computer as well. why I cant view my live video from different computers I am using Ubuntu 10.4 on all computers
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to wirelessly connect to my network for weeks now. My netgear dongle is fully working. I have installed the driver using ndiswrapper. I can see my network and signal is excellent; everything is working perfectly. When I try to connect it thinks about it but never connects. The password is fine; it works great with other computers. decided to have a go with wicd, so got rid of the Gnome network manager and installed wicd. Adaptor and wicd appear to be working brilliantly EXCEPT I cannot connect. wicd tells me its a bad password. Password fine because it works brilliantly with every other device I connect to my network. If I remove security from network, it tells me it cannot get address, even though it sailed passed that with no problem when there was security. I have searched the internet for a solution to this problem time and time again. Lots of people seem to be having this problem, but no one knows the solution. Is there a solution? It happens with both Ubuntu 10.04 LTS v1 v2 and Ubuntu 11.04. What the heck is going on. This happens with WPA WEP and anything else I try to use
