Tried turning firewall off, i tried port forwarding tcp port 22, but it still doesn't work. Also am unable to ping modem over WAN, i can ping the modem locally though. Tech support claims pinging and ssh is not part of the internet so they wont support it in any way.

Using Putty on the XP box to connect to Xvnc through a ssh tunnel works just fine. However, when I fire up TightVNC viewer and try to connect to 127.0.0.1 as I'm used to, TightVNC viewer is unable to establish a connection to X. I'm puzzled.
This has worked when I used another XP box as local computer. I'm running all within my LAN. Can this be a firewall/iptables issue? I've obviously posted this in wrong forum category. Sorry about that. Starts this thread in server category too.
I'm trying to run Debian server in our network. We have SSG5 Juniper Firewall set up to route traffic from our trusted network 192.168.50.0/24 to our DMZ 93.153.125.224/28I can connect / ping all Windows servers which are in DMZ. When I try to connect my Debian server instead of one of the server's static IP I'm unable to connect or ping to it. The server itself is able to connect to internet resolve DNS if I allow connection to our trusted network I'm able to ping or connect to any computer in trusted network but still unable to ping from trusted to DMZ. The SSG5 policy is set up to allow any connection from trust to DMZ and interface is set up to route all traffic.I have tried to trace the ping It'll go through firewall right to the interface needed but then it'll time out as like the server is not connected at all.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just setup a new LAMP server (CentOS 5.5 x86_64) box with channel bonding on NetXtreme II BCM5709 Gigabit Ethernet (IBM x3650 M3). The problem is I wasn't able to connect to this server when I'm in different VLAN's. This server also unable to ping different VLAN's. But everything works fine when I transact in the same VLAN.Here's the config:

I am using Linux Mint 9 Gnome: Isadora (since the same Network Manager applet is used in Ubuntu, I am asking the question here too)I was trying to configure my wireless card to connect my PPPoE connection by using the command pppoeconf wlan0 and also pppoeconf.I was not able to dial my PPPoE connection when connected via Wi-Fi. When I restarted my system, in the Network Manager, under Wireless Networks it says "Device not managed". Now I am not able to use my Wi-Fi card at all and cant connect to my Wi-Fi modem.
There is no hardware Wi-Fi switch, only the key combination Fn+F2 to enable or disable the wireless card.I have used the key combination Fn+F2 (which enables or disables the Wi-Fi card) many a times, but the same thing is displayed in the network manager.If I use LiveCD mode and use any distro even Isadora, the Wi-Fi works fine.My ethernet connection is working fine. I can connect to the internet if I connect my modem using Ethernet port.

As the title suggest, I have downlaoded the latest copy of Ubuntu Server from the ubuntu website.Everything installed fine. DHCP configured ok as far as I can tell. I can ping other machines on my network (which are running Windows) and they can ping the Ubuntu machine and conenct to Apache which is running on it.If I try to ping google.com or any other domain, it gives the correct IP address but gives no response to any pings, dont telnet on port 80 (or any toher potr for that matter) on any machine on the internet. I checked the settings using ifconfig to see what DHCP had assigned, and they matched the windows machines configuration (other than the IP address obvisouly). I tried assigning a static IP, even reserving a particular IP for my NIC.
Whatever I do, i cant connect to any machine outside the network via IP or domain.I have searched everywhere and tried everything i can find on the net but still to no avail.The Windows machines are part of a domain called alcom-uk.local and run off of a Windows Small Business 2003 Server. Not sure if i need to manually setup Ubuntu to connect using a domain or anything.

I have two machines on this network, one running Ubuntu and the other running Fedora.
When I'm using the Wireless network on the Ubuntu machine, I cannot ping the Fedora machine. Everything else works. I can browse the net fine.
If I switch over to the Wired Network then I can ping the other machine.
I don't understand why ping doesn't work only over the Wireless. I can ping the router so I'm guessing it's getting blocked by the router but I didn't block ICMP traffic.
I tried asking on IRC and they ran out of ideas too to find out where the problem is.
I have been using TightVNC (on XP) to remotely connect to my Ubuntu machine at home while in the office. This just worked. After upgrading to 10.10, I no longer can connect. Errormessage: Failed to connect to server (my ip) Looked at remote desktop settings, but these are not changed. Port forwarding is working and I use an internal fixed ip, so I can't imagine this being a problem (I doublechecked it anyway!). Anyone seen similar behavior> And, more interestingly, anyone know of a way to fix this?

I couldn't connect my Micromax 300G modem in Debian Linux. From internet (in Windows Vista), I came across the information of USB_ModeSwitch and then I downloaded it. While going to install it, I came across the problem that TCL-interpreter is not available in Debian Linux. Then again I restarted my laptop in Windows Vista and connected my Micromax modem and from internet downloaded TCL8.5.10-src.tar.gz. But while going to install it, I came across the problem that " configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH " . Also as presently, I am unable to connect my modem therefore I am unable to issue the code:" apt-get update ".

I have installed the Karmic kola image. When I try to run the instance, I get an error "no resources available. Try --addressing private". When I try addressing private, an ip address 172.19.1.2 is assigned and the instance was running.
a) When trying to ping the ip, error displayed that the host is unreachableb) I am also unable to connect to ubuntu@172.19.1.2 using ssh. View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running vsftpd-2.2.2 on Slackware 13.1 and I'm behind a NAT with a dynamic IP. I'm using pasv_address, which makes it necessary to have a crontab that checks whether my IP has changed, and if it has, edits the conf and restarts vsfptd. It's hackish but it works. I have also enabled FTPES on the same port that normal FTP runs. I have allowed only the 5001:5003 ports and I am aware that the recommented is 50 ports. However I never had an issue with the transfers since I'm the only user and have at maximum two simultaneous transfers.
I can connect remotely with FTP and FTPES with every client I tried but I'm having issues locally. FileZilla refuses to connect on FTP and FTPES. WinSCP can connect on FTP but not FTPES. Issues are gone if I enable pasv_promiscuous, which the manpage strongly recommends not to use unless "you know what you're doing". I don't. Why is this happening? And, can I fix the local connections without resorting to pasv_promiscuous?

I have 5 PCs running windows XP and I want to remotely connect to a server that has Ubuntu.
I want all of them to have their own passwords and own desktops something like Remote desktop in windows and each one can run his programs separately.
So, I have an Virtual Machine running CentOS 5.4. It sits behind a hardware firewall which also does NAT'ing. I've set up plenty of these, so I know for sure the firewall and NAT rules are set up correctly. From the host, I can ping anything in my subnet and the gateway. But I can't ping anything else beyond the gateway. I can perform DNS queries and when I try to ping, it finds the appropriate IP address.But from the outside, I can ping the PUBLIC address (It's a 1 public to 1 private address NAT, not 1 public to multiple private). I've tried it with IPTABLES on and off, with no change.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am new to Ubuntu and have been trying to make a remote connection to my home server. I think I almost there. Here's what I have done:
1) Installed Ubuntu Server 10.0 on a Pentium 2 with 256K
2) Installed SSH, MySQL, desktop GUI and enabled remote access
3) Port forwarded my Lynksys to 5900:22 and 80
4) installed Putty and TightVNC Viewer
5) Obtained a DynDDS account
My interanl IP Addy = 192.168.x.yyy
My External IP Addy = 76.xxx.y.zzz
When I run Putty, the connection times out (which I am guessing that my server may not be setup correctly). Since I am configuring all this at home, I am unable to simulate a true remote access unless I go to an outside location. Is there a way to test my connection from outside my network rather than waiting to login remotely from a place other than my home?
I am trying to connect to wireless broadband using SuSE 11.2 and a Huawei E160E USB modem, through Internode Australia.
Networkmanager does not seem to recognise the modem so I am trying other means. I believe I have got wvdial to connect (it reports a correct IP address, the light on the stick goes solid blue and I can ping external IP addresses). However it can't find a DNS nameserver and I can't work out how to provide one to wvdial, and therefore can't do anything through the connection (I would rather not revert to ifup because this laptop travels between WLANs). I followed swerdna's comprehensive instructions on setting up a wireless broadband modem in YAST, but I got lost on the very last instruction: KMenu --> KInternet. I can't find this on my application launcher.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having issues with my SSH server.The server is running on a Slackware 13.37 machine, using the default SSH server software, which I believe is OpenSSH.On my Windows machine, I've tried connecting to my Slackware machine but can only do so using the external IP, not the LAN IP, instead I get a "Connection Refused" error using PuTTy. I've forwarded port 22 for both UDP and TCP packets to my Slackware machine.I don't really know what information you need so just ask me and I'll respond to the best of my abilities.

I have a server at home running as a file server and DHCP connected to a switch with a wireless AP in there as-well. with this setup I can access the files and do some configurations via SSH on the actual server anytime I'm able to get the wireless signal, now lately I felt the need to be able to do the same but this time over the internet. I've read somewhere already that I'm gonna need a router with port forwarding and NAT, then know the IP address of the server but my problem is once you start talking about routers then you need broadband connection which is something I don't have. Getting a router is not much of a problem but without ADSL like connection I guess its useless, what do I need to do?
