So after doing this etc/ssh/ sudo nano sshd_config I uncomment #ListenAddress 0.0.0.0 Ok so i am trying to accsess my server from a windows machine so i tpyed ipconfig /all to find my ip I found the IPV4 address and i put that address like so ListenAddress 192.168.1.22 But when i try and connect it says connection refused.

The command that I'll be using to check the application is telnet (if you can recommend others, that's ok). I've an application and it is listening to port 1808. If I do telnet localhost 1808, the response is :

What I want to happen is if the response is like to code above, it will execute a commands. Obviously, above code knows that the application is not working so I need to execute a commands. I created a script before using expect but I don't think it will work because I haven't establish a shell yet unlike successful telnet I could spawn expect.

View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I got Ubuntu 9.10 on my laptop working really neat and wanted to upgrade my desktop to 9.10 as well. So I reinstalled Ubuntu there and now I can't connect to my network anymore....
I have a usb wireless adapter (currently Sitecom as I bought a new one today to hopefully fix it, but ended up at exactly the same problem as with my old adapter). The network manager I'm using now is Wicd since some topics I was looking through were about malfunctioning GNOME network-manager (which I removed) and suggested to try this. The GNOME network-manager kept prompting to insert my WEP network key which was a correct one. When I removed all security from the network it didn't prompt anything anymore but just failed to connect. The Wicd network manager is so nice to tell me that it cannot obtain the IP address however, so I suspect that this is my main issue... but I have no idea what I can do about this? Tried using a static IP and then I get the message "Connection failed: Could not contact the wireless access point."
I feel powerless as my knowledge here is just lacking..

I am using gnome network manager in Ubuntu 10.04 but it there is no option for me there for a static IPV4 address. I know with a wireless or ethernet connection you would modify /et/dhcp3/dhclient.conf and/or /etc/network/interfaces. I don't think those two would do for a PPP connection. When I go to /etc/ppp/ I see no .conf file that I could modify.

WICD 1.7.0. hangs on "wired connection: obtaining ip address...". I have downgraded to 1.6.2 and 1.5.9, but this did not solve the issue.
WICD does work under other circumstances, e.g. wireless connection. (But at home I don't have wireless, but just the modem and ethernet.)
Same wired connection ethernet connection works flawlessly on laptop running Windows XP SP2.
Two machines with Lucid installed last week, both installed with the same standard settings. One machine can see the network and both itself and the other machine, the other PC cannot see the first machine or itself. In the Network window all I get is a folder saying 'Windows Network' and clicking that ticks away for a minute or so before saying error, cannot connect to it.
On both machines I have created a shared folder on the desktop to trigger an installation of samba shares which has happened.I cannot connect to the other PC by entering its IP address into location either.
I have a problem with Samba. I've already configured my SMB.conf file, but I can't connect to my Windows shares by their host name. for example: if I try to connect to GDEA73-PC-1 share = netshare, server connection fails. if I try to connect to 192.168.1.171 then share = netshare, it works. How do I fix this? When I run findsmb, I am on the GDEA73 NETWORK workgroup as I configured, but my local PC is the only one on it...
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am a windows user with no linux experience prior to Friday. Im setting up a music server (SqueezeCenter) running Fedora 10.
With the help of posts of this site Ive made good progress with complicated stuffnamely getting Samba and VNC working. My Fedora machine and my windows machines now see each others shared files, and I can control my Fedora machine from my windows machine. (The Fedora machine will ultimately be headless.)
But Im having trouble with a seemingly simple issue setting up my Fedora box with a static IP address. With DHCP enabled on my network Ethernet adapter, all works fine. I then used the System>Administration>Network menu to disable DHCP and to assign the same IP address that DHCP chose. When I do this, two cases need to be distinguished:
1. If I keep the box checked for Controlled by Network Manager, the Network Manager Applet reports a network connection, I nevertheless cannot access the internet, but my Fedora machine is able to communicate with my Squeezebox music player (connected to my network via my DSL modem Ethernet connections, and with a fixed IP address). 2. If I uncheck the box Controlled by Network Manger, then the Network Manager Applet reports no network connection and my Fedora machine is not able to communicate with my Squeezebox music player (and I of course have no internet connectivity).
Ive seen references on other posts suggesting that the Network Manager service be disabled. But I see no way to manually configure the network.

i have successfully changed my MAC address. By doing:

ifconfig wlan0 up
When I do:
ifconfig wlan0, it shows my new MAC address.
After changing, I cannot connect to the Internet. I have already disable mac filtering in my router. What did I miss out?

I recently setup motion on one of my computers with a USB camera. On that computer if I type [URL] I can see my live video. If however I type [URL] on that computer or any other on my wireless network, I get a page cannot be displayed. I checked that UFW was disabled and I am able to ping the motion computer from any other computer on my network. Also I am not sure if it matters but I do have apache installed on my motion computer as well. why I cant view my live video from different computers I am using Ubuntu 10.4 on all computers
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to wirelessly connect to my network for weeks now. My netgear dongle is fully working. I have installed the driver using ndiswrapper. I can see my network and signal is excellent; everything is working perfectly. When I try to connect it thinks about it but never connects. The password is fine; it works great with other computers. decided to have a go with wicd, so got rid of the Gnome network manager and installed wicd. Adaptor and wicd appear to be working brilliantly EXCEPT I cannot connect. wicd tells me its a bad password. Password fine because it works brilliantly with every other device I connect to my network. If I remove security from network, it tells me it cannot get address, even though it sailed passed that with no problem when there was security. I have searched the internet for a solution to this problem time and time again. Lots of people seem to be having this problem, but no one knows the solution. Is there a solution? It happens with both Ubuntu 10.04 LTS v1 v2 and Ubuntu 11.04. What the heck is going on. This happens with WPA WEP and anything else I try to use

The Windows machine seems to think there is already another computer on the network with 192.168.168.178, but it's wrong: there is no such address on the network.
I'm new to Linux, i have couple of setups like
1. RHEL5 (2.6.18-128.el5) running fine on VMware(6.5v)
2. RHEL5 (same version of ker) running on Laptop (DELL Latitude D710)
there is a wireless modem which running at home with that i was being able to access the internet from VMware image running with RHEL5.
BUT internet does not work from the laptop. Network manager are running on both VMware image and Laptop.. What is the steps i need to follow to get WiFi Enabled so that it should pick the ipaddress from Wireless Modem to get internet access to my laptop.
I couldn't find an answer to this question (not including vpn) on different threads so decided to eventually post it, though it's probably easy one. I would like to connect to some application on known IP and port in the internet from my LAN computer. However to do so (I have some application, not any administrative constraints or not being allowed to) I would like to use local addresses. So, let's say - I want to connect to the external host VV.XX.YY.ZZ, port AA using 192.168.EE.FF port BB. Baically so far I have limitation in my application (too many places for possible error, to correct it right now - will change it in future). Is it possible that after my application sends request to 192.168.1.EE port BB, my Linux transparently translates it to VV.XX.YY.ZZ:AA? I tried iptables tutorials and some forums, but nothing seems to be addressing this issue. I don't know if it's event possible with iptables but am pretty sure this should be possible.
