I am succesfully installed a Dell wireless card with Broadcom 4328 shipset using ndiswrapper and rpm sources on Fedora 12 2.6.32.14-127.fc12.i686.PAE. Now I am using original Win drivers but the wifi conection is very slow and unstable.
The wifi card runs perfectly on win 7.

i installed ubuntu on my friends laptop but when he tries to connect to his network and enters his wep key the box disappears for a few second and comes back again...The card is Atheros on a Toshiba laptop and it is detected , it finds the networks but the wep key is rejected every time without a error
View 5 Replies View RelatedJust moved from Mandriva 2010.1 to Ubuntu 10.10 and am having problems with the wifi. It connects fine, but tends to grind to a halt every now and then. I always have this problem with Ubuntu... hence me migrating to Mandriva in the past. My card uses the Atheros AR5007G Wifi chipset. So, using ndiswrapper, I installed the windows drivers. Everything seemed to go okay. Yet, after a restart, I'm having the same problem. Which makes me think I'm still using the same old driver. So I added blacklist ath_hal and blacklist ath_pci to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf. Restarted. And I'm still having drop-out problems.

I am currently using Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. Although it has worked fine for the past couple of weeks, I have recently encountered a problem with my wireless card. It is an Atheros AR928X card on a Toshiba satellite U405D-S2874 model laptop. Recently, I attempted to put the computer into suspend mode for the first time. The computer failed to wake up, and I performed a hard reboot. After this, everything seems to work except for the wireless card. I am now unable to connect to any wireless network with my laptop, and the wireless manager doesn't seem to be working either.
View 2 Replies View RelatedPreviously my wifi has worked just fine in 10.04, but as of recently I keep losing my connection after leaving my laptop on for a while (and this happens sooner and sooner each time, used to be daily, now it's every few hours), I can no longer see any networks at all, and I have to reboot to get it working again. I haven't even installed or removed any packages lately, so I'm not such what might've caused this to break all of a sudden.
View 7 Replies View Relatedi'm running Ubuntu 10.10 32-bit on an Acer Aspire 3050 laptop with an Atheros AR5BMB5 WiFi card.
The problem i'm having is that the hardware switch to turn the WiFi on and off isn't working right. When I hit the switch to turn it off, the light doesn't turn off, and Ubuntu just disconnects from the network and searches for more WiFi networks - it doesn't say that the WiFi has been deactivated, and I don't think it is. When I hit the switch again, it finds my network and connects to it.

It lists a different model of card, but it's using what I assume is the correct driver, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I've checked the card itself and it is a AR5BMB5.
I would like to fix it so the switch actually turns the WiFi off instead of just making it search for more networks (I assume it's not actually turning off), and perhaps make the light turn off as it should as well.
So I decided to wipe out Windows and try Slitaz. It's an awesome well featured distro for it's size. One huge problem tho: I can't get wireless to work for the life of me. I actually went as far as to manually load the ath5k module but It just refuses to recognize my wireless router, much less any nearby routers. It simply doesn't see anything when it scans for wireless networks. I have no problem with that in Puppy Lucid. But I'd really like to use Slitaz, just for it's small size and quick bootup. Can anyone PLEASE help me with that?
PS: It happened here before that I had to plea and beg for any response, so PLEASE(!!) don't let me hang like that this time.
I have a brand new ASUS EEE PC 900HA with Ubuntu 9.10 installed on it. The wireless hasn't worked yet but the ethernet is fine. I've been browsing the forums for hours to find a fix but now I've installed/queried/removed so many things I'm totally confused.

I'm trying to find out what is the difference between wifi0 and ath0 (atheros wifi card) in terms of packet counters shown in proc/net/dev pseudofile. The fact is that wifi0 and ath0 packet counters are different. I've read that wifi0 refers to the physical device and ath0 refers to virtual device over wifi0, so, as far as I know, packets counters in both devices should be the same, isn't it? Another annoying question for me is that ath0 doesn't show any erroneous packets, while wifi0 does.

I got help getting wifi working on a Toshiba laptop with 10.10. After an update came through and I applied it (I believe it was a linux kernel update or generic headers update) wifi stopped working.I followed the steps in the post to re-create the driver but this time it doesn't work. So 2 questions:1. How to re-create the driver after this update?2. How to prevent this from happening again? So that another update doesn't make the driver not work?

Now many kde3 related apps crashes, forcing me to xkill and kill PID.I can't duplicate konqueror windows anymore, using the blue "k" icon top right. The window freezes. In Slack64 13.0, i even have a 100% cpu usage.Kwrite crashes from time to time.Erasing a file can crash konqueror etc.. Should i recompile all kde3 ? Should i recompile qt3 ?
i used to have shaw cable that i paid for and with that a "wired" connection which no matter what linux i chose to play with would recognize and automatically install the network drivers etc... so that i could access the web. now though i use a connection via wifi in the hotel that i now reside at and when i install or use live cd versions of linux i cant get it to use my wifi. due to the fact i have an atheros card. i researched this and found that apparently i need to have mad wifi installed and configured. however i haven't been able to get it to work. i can't seem to get an accurate step by step on installing it. same when i step by step try to install linux onto a usb stick and have it bootable. furthest i've gotten is the start up splash screen and then it freezes. anywho can someone steer me towards the "easiest dumbest person using it" install madwifi and or get a copy that works for an atheros card.

I have Acer Aspire 4740 laptop with Atheros ar928x wireless. My wireless is very slow, unstable. Wireless card still works well and fast in Windows (dual booting). After searching I see that there are many Ubuntu users have the same problem in Ubuntu 11.04 with this card.
View 4 Replies View RelatedLast night I installed F12 x86_64 from a liveUSB in my laptop with Atheros wireless. During the install process and after the first boot I was able to surf the web connected to the wireless network (signal was good and all). After I updated the whole system, however, the wireless network is no longer available (Network Manager does not even show the Wireless interface or the network list).
Obviously a laptop without wireless is mostly worthless. What am I supposed to do to get my (perfectly working*) wireless network back?

I have an Atheros ar2427 chip in my Asus EEE 1001P and I'm using WICD to configure it. I can scan for wlans, but I can not connect. I installed the compat wireless package from yast and I downloaded the source from the compat wireless site and tried to compile it (which seems to be the solution for Ubuntu) but I got an error and an interesting warning

During Karmic betas, my Marvell 88E8056 did not work at all. When Karmic got released, it started working but after December update, become terribly unstable, disconnecting like every 5 minutes. It is integrated on P5Q-E mobo. Luckily, I also have Marvell 88E8001 so I switched and it works. I was thinking that new kernel broke driver, and thought that next update will fix it. But yesterday I needed both NICs, and 88E8056 is still did not work. I am using .31-17 kernel. So I do not know if my NIC died or what? Can someone with same NIC say if it works for him? Does it work in Lucid Alpha 1 ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just switched to Ubuntu from Win 7 RC. So far its been fun, learning to use terminal and all. But I have got a problem now I cannot find a solution to.
I am using 3 Mobile Broadband. The thing just worked - I plugged it in, created a new connection, modified config a little and was happily browsing.
However, it started acting out yesterday. When I boot the system with the modem plugged in, the USB stick is recignised and NetworkManager starts connecting (I have auto connect on). It then shows the "connected" message, and generally appears working fine.
On the other hand, I cannot open a single page in Firefox, it shows the default server not found page.
I used the approach Windows taught me: close, open, retry. I unmount the 3 Mobile Broadband drive, pull the modem out and reconnect it. NetworkManager then does it's job and this time everything works.
I nether had this problem in Win7 or Vista. It looks to me something goes wrong during the booting when the modem is plugged in.
A fresh Xubuntu 10.10 install will give me access to my network, but with fluctuating speeds, and certain pages load forever. I have tried the blacklist edit as well as ndiswrapper, and neither have helped me. I can't find a madwifi guide for this issue either. Details: Upon fresh install of xubuntu 10.10, wireless is detected. I enter my, key, hit google, and all is good. Then I try to log into my online classes. Firefox hung forever. So I tried a few other sites, and to my disappointment, random sites seemed to fail. Brand-new, fresh, clean Xubuntu 10.10 install, Toshiba Satellite M45-165.

I have an USB 3G Modem to access broadband internet.The USB 3G Modem is a flying angel from TechFaith company.The modem works fine under Windows XP. The USB 3G Modem propose a data partition with an automatic installation of its driver and software. When I plug the device to the 9.04 Ubuntu workstation it mounts the data partition, but does not find the 3G modem device. I search the internet to find a solution, and the only working solution I found is the following. However, this solution is not stable, after some minutes the device is dropped (no more ttyUSB). I can not use the same process to enable the device.

I used the wizard to configure the braodband access (Brunei/B-mobile). It works for somes minutes, and then the connection drops, the /dev/ttyUSB desappears and I can not redo the process.I have to enter the commands in a root shell, the sudo command will not enable the device. Why it does not works with sudo?
I understand that wireless is one of the most common problems with Linux, although I did not have this experience with past distributions or versions. After two years away from Ubuntu I installed 10.04 and everything is working fine except the wireless connection. Actually, it does work and connect, but goes up and down, loses connection and in most cases does not reconnect, unless I am 1 meter from the router. The room next door is already too far, a place where I normally have my laptop connecting perfectly with XP.

I have Ubuntu running on my HTPC and for the longest time all this was working fine. Now all of the sudden my Internet connection is all sorts of slow. Chrome browser, transmission bt, apt-get, all have the same speed issue. I tried disabling IPv6, changing my DNS and installing all the latest updates. Nothing works.

I can connect most of the time but after a while (sometimes a few minutes, sometimes a few hours) I lose connection. The notification icon would not change. I would only find out when I browse or click on a link and it would just get stuck at "Looking for <url>..." My wife's notebook would still be connected to the router even after mine has mysteriously disconnected. But she uses another os.

Im new to linux (2 days only) so i have some driver problems. My internet connection is unstable. It reconnects every few minutes (5 min approximately). Im connected with wired dsl connection to routher. My network adapter is "Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller". View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using an Atheros ath9k wireless card that has been pretty stable since Ubuntu 9.04. I did a clean install of Natty and ever since my wireless connection has been pretty unstable.
It doesn't actually disconnects but I lose all connectivity. The wifi card continues loaded with a static IP Address assigned to it but I cannot connect to anything. The only way to fix it is restating the network manager and I have to do it at least a couple of times every day.
I tried to whitelist ath_pci on /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-ath_pci.conf but the problem still persists. Also yesterday I enabled the ubuntu backports on my software sources but so far no kernel updates.

I'm having trouble with my Samsung Netbook N220 and its Realtek 8192 wireless card and could use some help with diagnostics. I would like to use the netbook as a server and after a day or so the system stops responding. What I'd like to know:
- What do the "========>ieee80211_parse_info_param(): athros AP is exist" spam messages actually say? Does anyone else have this and stability problems?
- Why is the realtek driver package not working?
I'm running Ubuntu Netbook 10.04/Kernel 2.6.32-24-generic. Initially the card was unable to connect, so I installed the Realtek driver rtl8192se_linux_2.6.0017.0507.2010 which adds a kernel module r8192se_pci.ko. At first my system was hanging during bootup. I then restored /lib/modules/2.6.32-24-generic and now the card is connecting but the system is unstable. The 2.6.32-23-generic kernel, modules listed below, still has modules as installed by the realtek driver and is not working. Below the drivers supplied by ubuntu

My netbook model is Asus eeepc 1201n and I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 but I had the same problem while running 10.04: wireless disconnects and reconnects every 30 minutes or so and, after this has happened for a few times, it doesn't reconnect and keeps asking for the password.
View 9 Replies View RelatedEvery time I download torrents in Ubuntu 11.04 on my desktop, using Transmission or Deluge clients, the wireless transfer speed abruptly drops off, becomes very choppy, and in general doesn't remain stable. It's not only the torrent download that slows down, but it's everything including web surfing, even though I'm not maxing out my connection speed. It's not that I'm getting disconnected from my router, it's just that the wireless transfer speed drops off, becomes intermittent, and never gets back up to full speed.
At first I thought that my ISP was throttling my connection, but this issue doesn't happen with a direct cable connection to my router, nor did it happen when I was running Ubuntu 10.04 before. It also doesn't happen when I'm downloading the exact same torrents over wireless using my netbook running Ubuntu Netbook Remix. This issue ONLY seems to happen when using a bittorrent client while on wireless on Ubuntu 11.04 on my desktop. I can max out my internet connection speed by streaming videos, downloading from FTP, etc. using wireless just fine, and the transfer speed remains stable. This also seems to happen with a couple of different wireless USB adapters (rt73usb or rtl8187 drivers).
