View 8 RepliesI have installed Ubuntu Lynx 64 bit on my dell latitude e6410 with nvidia graphics. I have it running smooth thanks to the posts in this forums. today I was downloading a file and I ran out of battery (my laptop shutdown) I plug it to the charger, and know My network connection is disabled. How can i re enable my network connection?
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe other evening I was in the lengthy process of upgrading from Ubuntu 9.10 to version 10.04. It had downloaded all the packages and was in the process of upgrading when a thunderstorm blew in. The power failed momentarily. The system crashed and the installation did not complete.
The system is dual boot to Windows XP. From GRUB when I try to boot Ubuntu the display goes dark, after a few seconds of the white Ubuntu logo. If I hit ENTER I get a flashing Cursor. I can boot to System Restore and get the Recovery Menu. I don't know if there is something I can do from there to repair/finish my upgrade, or even revert to version 9, when I could restart the upgrade.
Can I burn a Live CD for version 10.04 and finish the upgrade? This would salvage the settings, printer drivers, and other programs that I have installed. If I have to make a brand new installation I have to rebuild all of the things I spent many hours getting setup.
I am having a RAID5 with a spare(total 4 disk).then the steps which lead me to a problem:
1. i was doing I/O on the array.
2. i pulled out a drive manually. So the spare drive took care of the failed one and started rebuilding. then
3. in the, mean time i pulled out the power plug of my NAS box.
4. After power up i saw my array was not active(by -D command option of mdadm). then
5. i executed: mdadm --assemble --scan /dev/md0 it gave me
I checked into the linux source and found that bd_claim is a function inside fs/block_dev.c and it failing due to which lock_rdev function (calling bd_claim in md.c) is failing and we are not able to start the array.I don't know why my RAID is not live after power on.
Plese help atleast can i save my data?
I am using Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit and I purchased a new ALFA AWUS036H wireless card. I would like to know if this "1Watt" wireless card is configured for full power. iwlist wlan0 txpower results:
wlan0 unknown transmit-power information. Current Tx-Power=27 dBm (501 mW). It appears to me that I should be able to increase the power. "iwpriv wlan0 highpower 1" does not work. Do I need to patch the new default driver that comes with Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit with the aircrack one following these directions:[URL]...? Monitor mode and a injection tests seem to work fine with the driver I have installed.
After much research, I have found the solution to my intermittent wireless problem!Whenever the laptop is plugged into power, wireless is perfect, when I'm on battery, wireless is horrible. Here is the fix:
Code:
sudo iwconfig eth1 power off
Unfortunately, I have to type this in everytime I unplug the laptop.

I do have internet cause I am using it on W7. The only thing that I have done different is I left the pc on over night so I guess it went to suspend for the first time. Then I powered off. After turning the pc back on and logging in I have no internet. Not even with the Ethernet plugged directly in. There is supposed to be a little blue light on when it sees the wireless and that is off. When I click on the networking icon in the system tray it says networking disabled. It shows no wireless. When I plug directly in I still get nothing. I'm using 10.04
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just finished installing 9.04 via USB onto an Acer Travelmate C110.For the record, 9.10 refused to even boot on this laptop. I used universal-usb-installer and unetbootin, both without success. The installation completed successfully, except that wireless networking is not enabled. Can someone please point me to the correct resource whereby I can get the wireless nic working.

Everything worked fine on kernel 2.6.33-6.But since the update to kernel 2.6.33-8, not always but nearly everytime I resume from suspend, my wireless network is disabled. When I right click the tray Icon the "Enable Networking" box is unticked and greyed out.Only a reboot brings networking back
View 14 Replies View RelatedI cannot seem to enable my wireless connection in 9.10. I know that the connection WAS WORKING maybe a month or so ago. However, 99% of the time I am wired.I am using a BCM4312 It shows up in lspci The drivers are loaded (wl, lib80211 and lib80211_crypt_tkip) If I look at System->Administration->Hardware Drivers the Broadcom STA driver is active. dmesg says that the interface is eth1 but then moves it to eth2 If I click on the network icon in the panel I have options for connecting to eth0 (wired lan which works fine) but under "Wireless Networks" it says "Wireless is disabled" in gray.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI after updating or something I wasn't able to connect to the internet(neither wireless, nor wired) anymore. I managed somehow with google-ing to fix the problem with the wired internet, but my wireless is still disabled.
Here is what I got:
ifconfig

I have the Broadcom STA wireless driver installed.(System - Administration - Hardware Drivers)
Everything was working fine today and for many days before today. (this is a pretty fresh install of 10.10 Maverick).
I installed a VPN connection (PPTP) to connect to work.
That worked fine. i connected, remoted into the machine I wanted and did what I had to do.
I was ABOUT to disconnect from the VPN and when I clicked on the network manager icon BAM it said DISCONNECTED. saved me another click or 2. But now I have no networking at all.
The network manager icon says "Networking disabled"
I tried: warm booting a couple times cold booting a couple times
I also tried:
Code:
service restart networking
and
Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
[Code].....
I would really just like to delete/uninstall anything that has to do with VPN's and see if that works. Or maybe reinstall network manager. Are those reasonable places to start?

View 3 Replies View RelatedUsing kubuntu 10.04, I accidentally disabled networkmanager on startup for one of the users of my system. This user now has to manually start networkmanager each time after logging in. How can I make kde run networkmanager automatically again? How this happened: when I started a parallel session as an other user, while already connected via networkmanager in my own profile, kde detected this and asked something along the lines of "There's already a networkmanager running, run networkmanager automatically in the future?" Since I was a little confused, I clicked "no", and that's how things are ever since. I thought there would be some system setting that would allow me to restore this setting, but I haven't found it yet...
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy wireless was working fine for about a year using 9.10 until I installed an update about May 28 2010. Setting wireless regulatory domain via module option no longer supported. Ubuntu 10.04 LTS enables the CRDA wireless regulatory framework for controlling which wireless channels are usable and visible in a particular location. If you previously had to use the module option similar to that below in /etc/modprobe.d/options.conf to allow access to certain channels in your locality then you may find that wireless will not function at all: options cfg80211 ieee80211_regdom=EU You should remove this kernel module option on upgrade from releases earlier than Ubuntu 9.04 and use the iw*reg command instead. I realize this seems like a repeat question (and it probably is). I have been searching for a solution to my issue on the forums/web for a few hours to no avail. I have a Compaq f700 with Vista. I am sick of Vista. I installed Ubuntu today. Looking forward to using it more. However I am having problems with the internet.
My wireless internet is on the on setting, however, the light will not switch from orange to green (if I load Vista instead, the light changes). Broadcom BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN [14e4:4311], It says my wireless is disabled. I can not figure out how to enable it.
We're on vacation here with free wifi and I brought two laptops. The older of the two laptops running Ubuntu 10.04 and a Broadcom wireless chip suddenly wouldn't work this morning. I checked and it says wireless disabled, however wireless is grayed out when I right click on network manager. I have -no- idea what to do. I've never seen wireless just die like that. I popped open the cover but the wireless card is fine. I re-seated it, booted back up, still no sign of it.
What can I do?
I updated from Ubuntu 9 to 10 some while ago and can no longer connect to the internet via wireless. The computer is a Medion 96290 with a USB wireless card. Running "lsusb" gives code...
This tells me a driver is installed but it may not be the correct one. I copied this driver from the Windows driver file.
Network Manager shows "Wireless Network" greyed out and "wireless is disabled".
WICD shows net8187b as the installed driver and that the hardware is present.
There is a wireless switch on the keyboard which it was not necessary to use in Ubuntu 9 and is inoperative in Ubuntu 10.
I have searched through and applied many suggestions without success and have posted this problem on a couple of forums, again without success.
I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 latest updates on a HP G50 laptop. It was working fine but would never auto connect to wireless. I would have to select the wireless from the top menu and connect to a network. However I disabled it once and tried to re-enable but ran into a problem. The Enable Wireless was grey and would not allow me to enable.
Have searched google and tried lots of solutions and none worked. I even reinstalled and still have the problem.

I recently installed ubuntu 11.04, using the dual boot option with windows vista. I have noticed that when I reboot with vista, it recognizes my wireless network, but is unable to connect to it. My old Winbook laptop had good wifi connection under Ubuntu 9.10 but shows 'disabled' under Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10. At least under 10.10 it came up with working video (had to mess with GRUB on 10.04 before video would work). I have an onboard wi-fi card that has never worked well with any Linux as far as I know but the Atheros PCMCIA card worked solid under Karmic (9.10). Here is some diag. info.

I'm on an Acer Aspire One.Clean install of 9.10.I was using 9.10 and my wireless was working fine. Then for no reason it would not connect. So I decided to reboot my router and reinstall ubuntu.Still does not work.I have figured out that it seems to be WPA encryption that is at fault. When I turn it off on my Linksys the netbook connects fine, turn it back on and nada.
if i try to use a static address then the laptop seems to connect but I cannot ping the router or get to the internet. If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful, I would rather use WPA than WEP.My iphone connects and this netbook connects with Windows, so I know the linksys is not at fault.
im having some trouble connecting the wireless card to my wifi network, theres is a hint using the terminal
remora@remora-laptop:~$ sudo lshw -C network

I'm using Linux Mint 8 KDE, which is essentially kubuntu karmic.
Been trying to set up bittorrent (tried several different apps), have followed all the usual steps, forwarded ports on both Guarddog and my router, but still no incoming connections. Then tried disabling the firewall in Guarddog - still no incoming connections. Never had any problems configuring my router before so can only think that there must be something else blocking ports in linux other than iptables. Also had same problem just using ufw and gufw
I have an HP mini laptop (Intel Atom, N270, 1.60GhZ, 1Gb RAM, Win XP ver 2002 SP3) that I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 netbook version last nite.I can dual boot, and so far everything under Ubuntu works great - except for the wireless interface. Rebooting back to WinXP, it works fine. The 'sudo lshw -C network' command shows "disabled". Ubuntu sees it, its just disabled. The help file says to make sure its on. It is - there is no physical switch..I am VERY new to this, with no programming experience to speak of.
