Ubuntu :: OS Upgrade Causing NetBeans To Fail
May 7, 2010I recently upgraded to 10.04 and now netbeans is not working. It worked fine the first restart after i upgraded so i thought all was good. This morning i ran it and it said something about not being able to load some modules. Since then, i've tried uninstalling it, re-installing it, and numerous restarts, all to no avail. I'm gonna try downloading the package from their website and running it from a separate install and see if that helps, but after that, I'm out of ideas.
When i run it either from the terminal or by clicking on it, it shows the loading screen, then the loading screen dissapears, then nothing else happens. In the terminal, it waits about ten seconds after the screen dissapears and the program seems to exit, since the terminal begins accepting commands once again.

Jun 21, 2010I upgraded from fedora 11 to fedora 13 which upgraded Netbeans from 6.5 to 6.8. Now 6.8 complains that package javax.persistence does not exist. Is this a fedora problem or a Netbeans problem? I've looked in the netbeans forums and can't find any discussion of this.

Sep 19, 2010I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10. All was going well until netbeans started throwing up errors about not being able to find the "stddef.h" header being called from the stdio and stdlib headers. Now I am unable to even initialize variables without failing.
I was using 6.9.1 from the netbeans website, but then I installed 6.9 from the repos alongside, and I still get the same error. Do I need to remove 6.9.1 ( I would rather remove it and keep the repo version), and if so, how do I do it?

I keep having to downgrade because ubuntu tried to upgrade to php5.3 everytime I try to upgrade something.
For instance, I just upgraded wine and didnt notice php5.3 in there as a dependancy, so now have to downgrade AGAIN!
Is there a way to upgrade wine without upgrading php as well?

Apr 14, 2010I'm trying to install HylaFAX but it's giving me problems. I've installed the program on my CentOS (5.4) box but I can't seem to get it to send faxes.
I've tested the modem with the minicom program and I was able to dial out to my cell phone just fine. What do I do to to find out what the problem is? Which log file does HylaFAX log to?

May 19, 2011Basically i just downloaded and installed Ubuntu 11.04 and i love it, however all websites wont load except for ubuntuforums.org and google.com which both seem to load instantly. Any ideas?
BTW i am connected to the internet obviously and i am also writing this on ubuntu. I don't understand why this is happening because all websites seem to load on windows and the package installer seems to work fine.

Mar 21, 2010I've been using fedora now for a while without major problems - since yesterday. Last night i rebooted my computer and to my surprise, this is what happened:
The Fedora screen takes a little bit longer to load and after that, instead of showing the login screen, i get a black screen with a prompt blinking. I can log in on text mode pressing alt+f2 alright. Tried "startx", but that did nothing for me, i only get a backtrack list and a "fatal server error: Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault). Server aborting. There's also something about checking the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" but when i try to open it i get a Permission denied message.
Fedora :: Home Folder Does Not Always Load In Nautilus / Sort It?
Nov 27, 2009HiI still have a issue where nautilus occasionally wont show my home folder's contents.
(it has no images or videos or music in the home folder directly (only in sub-folders), only other folders and text files, incl dot files for settings)
I have to reboot to get it to work.
Sometimes it does it right after a reboot, a 2nd reboot then allows nautilus to see contents of the home folder.

One in production (lets call it the OLD ONE) and the other (lets call it the NEW ONE) in tests to replace the OLD ONE.This is the basic hardware of each one: (I can post more detailed info if you need, but beside the erros on dmesg, look at the the L2 cache of the NEW ONE )
Old one:
2 quad core processors that linux recognize as 8 x Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5440 @ 2.83GHz - 32Kb L1 - 6Mb L2
48Gb RAM
New one:
8 quad core processor that linux recognize as 32 x AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 6136 @ 2.400Mhz (- 64Kb L1 - 512Kb L2
128Gb RAM
The scenario:We run a dataflex system on the old one, with average of 3000 users, with tops at 3300 users and sometimes less then 2000. In the old one, we have a load average from 2 to 6 with the 3000 users, depending on the type of application (sometimes we run reports to txt files that take more then 6 hours to complete and the load average can raise to 12). 85% of this conections are from remote links.
Dataflex is a language that derives from C that have their own sgbd (if we can call it that way), and have a limit of 2gb per table. This size we almost have on 5 tables and we use a dataflex feature to compress the data.
The problem:We are migrating (or trying to) the tables to oracle, so we bought new machines for the DB and the new one to replace the old one, becouse we think that could not handle the job with 2 oracles (load balance).In some tests we could see (or suposed) that the oracle database was not so fast with more then 1000 users (opening same table and doing the same task) and we decided to test the new one with the system that is in production right now, with dataflex tables, to ensure that the problem could be oracle.We change the HDs and IP. Started the system on the new one, and started to monitorate as the real users start their jobs. At 800 users the Load Average raised to 26 and with 1300 users we had more then 115 on Load Average. More users login in and the TOP become slow, pointing 400 of LA. From here we started to get some "Lock time out" erros and we had to change to the old one again, to prevent corruption on the tables. I'm analizing all report tools I know about performance and hardware and I cant see nothing. I saw some errors on dmesg, but I can say that is related to that problem.

Ubuntu :: After Upgrade To 10.04 I Can't Login / Sort It?
Jun 4, 2010I have recently upgraded to ubuntu 10.04 on a machine which I installed the kubuntu-desktop package onto. After the installation I tried to login to a KDE session and my password is accepted. The login screen disappears before the loading splash screen for KDE appears, however this only stays on the screen for a few seconds before the login screen appears again and the drumbeat sound is played (as if you had just turned it on).
Note that GRUB works fine.
UPD (17:48:10 4/06/2010) I have re-installed plasma-desktop, kubuntu-desktop and kdemain packages and this has only caused a longer delay before the login screen is displayed again.
Please could somebody send me in the right direction to get this fixed. I have attached kdm.log.1 as a txt file as this may help diagnose some errors.
Ubuntu :: Bluetooth Broken After Upgrade 8.04 Lts - 10.04 / Sort It?
Nov 29, 2010Like so many others, after upgrading 8.04->10.04 LTS, Bluetooth is now busted. I've spent the better part of a day trying to find answers; I've tried many things and the results have not been consistent. I'm not going to write a book here as there are many other posts on the same problem and no real answers other than to complete a fresh install. I CAN do that but I'll have to overcome one bothersome problem:
Bluetooth is an important protocol. Now my (Bluetooth) broadband adapter is busted and I have to try and resolve this issue using a lousy phone line and modem. Needless to say... I can't download a new distro with that configuration. The updates would take weeks!
I suppose I'll have to drive into town and get someone to burn me a copy of 10.04 lts... Hope that works!
I'll think twice (or more) before upgrading an LTS distro again! That machine was working great....I don't know why I upgraded.. security concerns mainly. live and learn I guess... live and learn.
