Ubuntu Multimedia :: Importing ICM Profile - Whole Monitor Calibration

Nov 25, 2010

I've got a new monitor which has a .icm profile on the CD. I would like to calibrate my monitor and found lprof. It's got a nice GUI but to someone new to the whole monitor calibration ballgame it's not that easy to work out. Is there a way I can simply import the .icm profile? Is that enough, or do I need to do more set-up after that? Do the changes in lprof affect everything that appears on my screen? (I mean, once it's set-up, I don't have to apply anything to various applications like gimp/digicam?)

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Dual Screen, Compiz + Colour Calibration With 8600M GT?

Feb 6, 2011

After a few tries, I managed to install Ubuntu on my 3rd generation Macbook Pro (MacbookPro3,1). I installed the proprietary drivers for the Nvidia graphics card and got all the other features working with the information from this page. However, I am having various problems getting the screens working as I would like. When my laptop is at my desk, it is connected to an external 24-inch monitor via DVI, however I regularly disconnect this screen when I go to uni etc.

Ideally I would like Ubuntu to do the following (all of which I can do in Windows and Mac, or the equivalent thereof): Auto-detect when the external monitor is plugged in, set that monitor as the primary screen (with gnome panel etc). And auto-detect when it is unplugged and set the laptop screen as primary.
Support moving windows between both screens Compiz on both screens Separate colour calibration on each screen So far, I have only been able to get a subset of these working at once. I got 2 working alone, without any compiz and the colour calibration only worked on the laptop screen. I got 3 and 4 working without being able to move windows between screens. I have not been able to get 1 working at all - when I disconnect the monitor, I have to tell the nvidia control panel it is gone.

Is there any way to get all four of these things working? I would be willing to sacrifice 3 if 1, 2, and 4 were all working. (I posted this thread to Apple users as well, but I figure there will be more activity here).

Ubuntu :: Use Eye One Monitor Calibration Tool - Run Wine Or Emulator?

Jul 24, 2010

I have a Gretag-Macbeth Eye-One monitor calibration tool that (along with the Epson printer calibration tools) I use on my Windows machine to get W.Y.S.I.W.Y.G. color photography printing. Am curious as to IF the thing can be run under Ubuntu (using 10.04). Know that it will have to be run in Wine or some emulator. has any one done this? And how was it accomplished AND (most importantly) DOES IT WORK? This is NOT one of those "I gotta get this working" things. just that I WOULD like to calibrate the monitors on the Ubuntu machines I have.

I get the following error when BOOTING up with Ubuntu 9.10 & in dmesg:

phy0: noise floor calibration timeout

I think it is also causing one of my USB Serial devices to work improperly.I tried changing all the hardware (laptop(motherboard etc.), USB Serial device, & USB hub) but that did not resolve the issue. My code was previously working on an older version of ubuntu (9.04).As I boot up (before any of my software is run), bytes are written to my USB Serial (FTDI SIO) device.I also tried this on a fresh install & it appears that some bytes are being written to the serial divice(20 x 2 character LCD) while it is booting upIs there a bug with Ubuntu 9.10?

Software :: Screen App / Retain BG / Color Background Color Gets Lost

Jul 6, 2009

I am using the screen app, and have set bce to on, and issued the following commands to set my background and foreground color: tput setab 4; clear; tput setaf 7; clear;

This temporarily sets everything properly on my screen. However, when I issue any commands that change or set their own background color (for example, when I issue an "ls" command with colorized output), the background color gets lost for any new output and I have to reissue the commands listed above in order to retrieve my background color.Ideally I'd like to keep my background color when issuing these commands, as it serves as a good way to remind me of what environment I am currently issuing commands in.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Video Color Is Very Blue?

Aug 16, 2010

I must have inadvertently changed a color setting in Ubuntu. Suddenly, the color in all video that I play is distinctly blue (human skin is shades of blue and green). This happens to multiple videos in both VLC and Movie Player. It does not happen when I play the same videos on VLC in Windows. Pictures and all other graphics appear completely normal. I am still quite new to Ubuntu and I've never encountered anything like this before. I have no idea where to start

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Pics - Video Color Is Much Better In Windows

Apr 15, 2011

Open these in separate tabs and compare for yourself: Windows - Ubuntu As far as I know, this color difference between Windows and Ubuntu has existed for years. I mean I have had countless installations of XP's and 7's, and I've tried several versions of Ubuntu. Always noticed that color difference.

I don't know which color is "normal", but I like Windows' way better. How can I achieve this result on Ubuntu? The pictures are both taken in VLC with default configuration. I'd be happy to provide more data, if needed.

I have an HP color laser printer and I am looking for a way to print black as black instead of using tri-color. For example If I print a document that has colored text then any black text is printed using the color cartridges rather then using black. I have been surviving by using windows XP in virtualbox but I'm hoping someone can help me with this. I've looked all over then net for a solution but I've found nothing. I remember having similar problems like this with older Macs because of postscript printing and I'm thinking this is the same problem but I don't know how to fix it. Code:

Cannot load library /usr/lib/kde4/kcm_phonon.so:(/usr/lib/kde4/kcm_phonon.so undefined symbol: _ZN6Phonon12GlobalConfig28setAudioCaptureDeviceListForENS_8CategoryE5QListiE)Cannot load library /usr/lib/kde4/kcm_phonon.so:(/usr/lib/kde4/kcm_phonon.so undefined symbol: _ZN6Phonon12GlobalConfig28setAudioCaptureDeviceListForENS_8CategoryE5QListiE)

Possible Reasons:

* An error occurred during your last KDE upgrade leaving an orphaned control module

* You have old third party modules lying around.

Check these points carefully and try to remove the module mentioned in the error message. If this fails, consider contacting your distributor or packager. And then when I click OK, it closes, and that's it. how to prevent this, so I can access the multimedia settings and change them. The reason I want to see the settings, is because Amarok 2.3 won't play any songs (even though version 1.4 still works).

Now it is saying that the restricted extras package is already loaded but I still can't add any MP3s.
