I cant get glx to load at all and I can't run boxee because of it. I have included all my info in the files down here. the xorg manual and googling does not have luck either. I know it has been covered before but i would not post if it were obvious on fixing it. so either i get this fixed or i say screw this and get new parts. In any case I would hate to have get a new system.

Possible Reasons:
* An error occurred during your last KDE upgrade leaving an orphaned control module
* You have old third party modules lying around.
Check these points carefully and try to remove the module mentioned in the error message. If this fails, consider contacting your distributor or packager. And then when I click OK, it closes, and that's it. how to prevent this, so I can access the multimedia settings and change them. The reason I want to see the settings, is because Amarok 2.3 won't play any songs (even though version 1.4 still works).
I have just reinstalled ubuntu 9.10 on my laptop. The laptop is used as a Jukebox and has never had a problem doing this job. Yesterday my HDD died, hence the reinstall. When I go to add the MP3s to rythumbox and it searches for the relevant codecs it keeps saying "No packages with the requested plug ins found". I have been to the ubuntu restricted extras site to DL the package and I get a "URL failed to load" message. So I go to an unsupported site and DL the package and install it manually but I still can't add any MP3s. Now it is saying that the restricted extras package is already loaded but I still can't add any MP3s.

Nowhere in the menus can I find a way to load a playlist. This playlist was generated under and saved from VLC. When consulting the documentation at the website, it says to load the playlist from the "Playlist" menu, but there is no "Playlist" menu present, as shown in the screenshots from the site. I can find the "Save Playlist to File" option under the "Media" menu, but nowhere can I find a "Load Playlist" option. I have read that the playlist can be dragged and dropped (specifically, directly onto the player), but VLC won't play the playlist. How to load a playlist into VLC?

Firefox is getting confused over my plugins. about:plugins show an empty list but the plugins tab of the Add-On Manager show them all and says they are enabled.It was working a week ago without any issues whatsoever. View 1 Replies View RelatedI decided not to use Photoshop in wine on my computer but to only use GIMP because I heard there is so many free plugins on the internet that makes it function almost exactly as Photoshop.I install plugins but then GIMP wont open at all.I did a complete fresh install of 10.04 because I was having this GIMP problem after installing gimpshop and installing Photoshop 7, I figured it was the Photoshop that caused the problem
So now with a complete fresh install GIMP still wont work with any plugins installed.is there something i need before I can add any plugins or whats going on?
This nvidia driver is driving me nuts... I have tried everything I can think of including multiple solutions from threads.

I had some problems upgrading from 10.4 to 10.10, and I had to select the "safe mode" equivalent option in the grub loader to boot, or else my system would hang at the screen with the dots before the login prompt. I restored the packages and now my system works. I am not sure if this is relevant to my problem.

It looks like a Qt4 problem, I have installed Qt4 with all possible dependencies, re-installed vlc several times but no effect! cvlc as proposed doesn't react.
Just noticed that during calls skype uses ~30-50% cpu, + pulseaudio uses ~20%. I found some old threads on this like [URL] Or [URL]. The former suggests to purge pulse and use alsa/oss instead. The latter suggests changing mic in skype to DeviceXX and tweak the pulse.conf
There's also a launchpad bug on that with status Confirmed->invalid (due to "problem fixed in skype 2.1 beta") but looks like it's not (I am using 2.1 beta)

2. I can't try 2nd link's approach as my skype has only PulseAudio in the settings, so I can't select Device or anything else!
3. Should I try to remove pulse in favor of ALSA? I'm pretty happy with pulse otherwise that this issue, I use it to record sound out of my sound card and I'm not sure if I can do this with alsa/os.
I made a backup of xorg.conf and added Xinerama and the other configuration items I needed. X failed to load. Then I copied my backup to xorg.conf and...X failed to load. Then I tried booting up in safe graphics made, and X failed to load. I tried dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg, but it did nothing. Literally nothing -- no error, no output, no nothing. Then I saw someone who had suggested to apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg, then reinstall it, and X failed to load.
I am at a complete loss. I have now read that the dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg is no longer used, that the os is supposed to autodetect everything now, but in that case I don't see how I will ever get dual monitors. In any case, I can live without dual monitors, but I need at least ONE monitor, and I have no idea how to get the configuration working.
(New thread due to significant change in info)5th gen iPod is recognized, but will not load files into banshee. It is the latest version of banshee. My ipod (named SON2) shows up in the menu, but when selected it hangs on "Loading SON2" and showing that it's busy...but this goes on without end, no files ever get loaded. Also, banshee doesn't recognize any music or video on the ipod, only "other". I've been using kubuntu for a while, and I've been having this issue since the release of the 2.6.32-23 kernel. Originally, I thought it was related to my raid array and this bug: [URL] I'm still not convinced they're not related, but there is also apparently the possiblity of an nvidia driver issue. Previously, I rebooted infrequently, and I had a spare hard drive installed, so my grub menu would always appear (as it detected an alternate OS on this drive) and it was trivial to select the 2.6.32-22 kernel. Since I installed all updates, including the -35 kernel, it ran update-grub and now I have to press shift when I reboot. Specs/Summary:

kernels installed: 2.6.32-21 - 2.6.32.25
when I boot with -22 or earlier, everything works great. when I boot with -23 or later, I get the kubuntu splash screen, followed by it switching to tty2, then I get it switched back to where the X screen should be, with the system log displayed, and then it switches back to tty2. After installing -35, I panicked a bit as I'd never had the grub screen not show (not knowing about the shift key), and so I poked around logs and it showed nvidia driver errors. I tried removing my xorg.conf file and rebooted, and I got the desktop to show again. I prefer the nvidia driver as I sometimes use dual monitors.
I am trying to setup a computer with xubuntu 10.10 for my dad. It is mostly working, but flash animations/games run somewhat poorly. I think I might be able to fix this by using the non-free nvidia drivers, but I cannot seem to get them installed.

Using startx X loads but leaves it unusable, both mouse and keyboard don't work (I never use startx really as regular user but in root). The message is:

The title is rather vague because I haven't been able to identify the cause of the problem. I installed Debian Testing using the daily builds of March 6th and 7th with the same results: the system fails to load the Gnome desktop after the log in. Instead, a pale blue background is shown. No panels, no window manager, nothing. I can move the cursor but there's no context menu and the key bindings don't work, turning the session useless. The problem exists in all accounts, and persists even when the dot-files are deleted after the first Gnome start.
After trial and error, I found out that if I changed to a virtual console (VC1 to VC6) and go back to VC7 (sometimes VC8), the Gnome desktop loads as expected. The pale blue background is shown over/instead of the actual background and I need to cover ("paint") it with a window to show the actual one. This pointed me to a Gnome Session or a graphics card error. Indeed, if I disable Gnome Session, the Gnome desktop loads after the log in. Of course, no interface settings are set. I checked the Gnome Session's bug list without luck and the error messages in .xsession-errors aren't conclusive, for they appear in other cases.
About the graphics card: the video settings work (screen settings, 3D accelaration, recovery after suspend to RAM/disk) but Xorg's log shows several erros and warnings when setting up the system (mostly related to the video and touchpad settings). Right now, I'm building a custom xorg.conf file to try to decreases udev's errors and see if it affects the Gnome problem. I've spent hours trying to solve this problem. It's annoying to lose interface settings after closing the session (key bindings and brightness settings, for example).

Either it does not load, or once in awhile it also shows a message saying something like "cd player not configured", - which is odd because Suse is able to use it for installing additional programs and such from the Suse Dvd. I am also quite new in this, my first Opensuse distribution is the current.
