Is there a way to have the VLC play list joined together with the main VLC screen? i.e. just like gnome-mplayer 0.9.8? I really don't like the separate windows setup with VLC, although VLC is still my number one video player.
View 2 RepliesI already join the domain but I have the map drive is based on the user name in windows server 2003. I map the drive on the user by batch file like map_file.bat and its on the group policy as log in scripts. So how can the user when he use PC1 see his own map drives and when he go to PC2 he see the same map drives and when other user sit on his computer will see other map drives. Its already working on Winxp as client but I want it to be the same on ubuntu.
In other word, more description Mike using PC1 can see map drive MAPDrive1 and MAPDrive2 and when Mike want to use PC2 and automatically can see MAPDrive1 and MAPDrive2 or any other PC he use .. he can see the same MAP1 and MAP2 ins same time jack if he use PC1 can see map drive MAPDrive3 and MAPDrive4 and when jack use PC2 he again can see MAPDrive3 and MAPDrive4.

Fresh install of 9.10 shows buggy behavior for the 'Window List Applet' in the gtk panel.
Usually, clicking on a button in the window list applet does nothing at all. It doesn't un-minimise it, set focus to the window, or bring it to the front.
In 8.10, the window was always raised immediately and given focus.
Sometimes it works, but I've not figured out the state in which it does. I currently have 10 windows open, clicking through them all in the window list raises most of them, but on some nothing happens.
Modifying the 'Window List Preferences' dialog does nothing to fix the problem.
I have checked System->Windows->Window Selection to 'Select windows when mouse moves over them'. 'Raise selected windows after an interval' is not selected.

and select which OpenOffice module I would like to execute. It would be much easier (and preferred) to be able to execute OpenOffice.org (Main window) directly from an icon in a panel. That is, I would like to have an icon in a panel that when clicked on would bring up the Main window for OpenOffice --- this Main window menu is shown in the attached screenshot.How can I get this single icon to give (when clicked on) this Main window for OpenOffice?
I recently managed to install it on a PC alongside Windows XP (seperate hard disk's). Anyways I downloaded AVG 8.5.732 (avg85flx-r732-a3168.i386.deb) and installed the package (Synaptic Package Manager lists it as being installed) but I can't find in the Ubuntu Software Centre nor can I find it in the system/main menu list.

note. i dualboot with ubuntu 10.04 and grub is managed by it.
Usually the menu bar, and menus, are displayed within the applications main window. With a small screen this obviously wastes space so my idea is to reserve a location, small square space probably on a corner, on the screen that when clicked it will pop out the current selected applications menu, allow selection, and then disappear again. The application itself would look fullscreen, or if windowed will still not have a menu bar but access available via the "square."
Likewise instead of the usual task bar and "applications/places/system" menus (ala, ubuntu) a second square would be reserved which would pop-out and show the running tasks, followed by the menus, and allow selection, then disappear. Is this possible with GTK+ as it stands, as I'm guessing that by default everything must be contained within an applications main window?
Although having said that, gimp allows the tool windows to be external to the edited document, so perhaps it would be possible to make the menu bar into a toolbox? I guess the difficult problem would be how to make the currently selected applications "tool square" be on top when there could be multiple applications running. The "tool square" and "task/menu square" could be transparent (maybe just an outline) so that although always there they wouldn't hide any underlying windows/programs/etc.
Basically the idea is to get rid of wasted screen, in ubuntu (on gtk/gnome) a minimum of 5 "bars" is wasted screen real-estate:- 1, Running aplications: 2, Ubuntu's main menu bar: 3, Applications status bar: 4, Applications menu bar: 5, Applications description (min/max/close) bar. Take all the above and replace it with two clickable, potentially invisible, squares say where the default "hide all windows" and "deleted trashcan" icons currently reside.
I recently installed Linux Mint 8 (main) on my P.C.. When I select the main menu and activate the Terminal, all that comes up is a blank white window--The same thing happens when I try to run Software Manager or Synaptic. Could you please instruct me how to fix this

I am in a multi domain environment where I took one Samba file server from one domain to another and I need to make sure it is actually connected to the new server.
I have all the correct info in the smb.conf but I need some reassurance that I am actually connected.

Basically the problem is, I can't play store bought DVDs, but I can play my copies of them.
When using MDPlayer that I added to Ubuntu, I can play the copies of my store bought DVDs, but not the originals. However, when using Ubuntu 9.10's movie player, it wont do anything and I'll have to do a force quit to close it.
I learned that this may because there is a repository of packages that cannot be included into the Ubuntu distribution, as I'm sure you already knew.

Running the Terminal, I added the bash command that adds Medibuntu's repositiry to Ubuntu. It also adds Medibuntu's GPG key to the keyring.
(The sudo wget - etc etc etc --quiet update)
Then I jumped down to the... "This command should be run in the Terminal, after adding the repository:" ...And did that. (sudo sed -e 's/ etc etc etc /medibuntu.list)
i just installed 10.10 on my girls laptop (Acer Aspire 5735z) hoping it would fix the old problem i had with playing real dvd's. it didnt. it keeps saying "Could not read from Resource". when i try with VLC is say "Could not read from file". but if i put in a burned movie, it plays fine. i checked and it has libdvdcss2, libdvdnav4, and libdvdread4 installed. i get the same problems with my laptop (toshiba portege m400 tablet) which runs fedora 13.

I've rebooted, tried all sorts of tinkering, it loads the applet (I can see that Flash is loading OK because other things work, and right clicking on the applet gives the Flash menu)
However, clicking the play button does nothing.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using "Ubuntu Classic" mode on Ubuntu 11.04. With previous Ubuntu releases I could rearrange the Window List (some may call it the "task bar") by clicking a window and dragging it, but now this does not work. Any idea on how to re-enable this feature?

Update Manager tells me updates are available and presents the list of security, recommended, and other updates. All are selected to update, but when I select Install Updates in Update Manager it returns with a Reading Package Information window overlaid on the main Update Manager window - building dependency tree then reading state information and dumps me back to the main Update Manager window without performing any update actions.
i have just installed 10.04 64 bit onto my computer.I then used the command sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras to install adobe flash it seemed to work untill i went to use the play button in the window.It will not allow me to use the buttons in the window to play or pause etc,i tried to use a different site (cisco.netacad.net)which requires flash and all works well until i try to select a chapter or launch anything.I am at a loss some one told me it might be a javascript problem in firefox is this tru i have to read my cisco chapters and i cant afford windows and i like this ubuntu release.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAny of you ever heard of OS/2 WARP? My dad is a longtime user, as was I until I got my Mac (and now my netbook with Ubuntu). In any case, the OS is a tad...obsolete and my dad at some point wishes to try Ubuntu. In his current setup, he has a "Window List" that can be activated using a keyboard shortcut. It's a popup (not in a menu bar or "panel") that can be moved around and resized. From that you can use your keyboard to navigate to the program or window that you want. For instance, if I want to get to Firefox, I press Ctrl+Escape (to activate the Window List) and then I hit "F" as many times as needed to highlight "Firefox". Then I just hit "Enter" and I'm there. Anything similar out there for Ubuntu (it is preferable if the solution has text as well as icons or else can have the icons removed leaving only the text)
In addition, both him and I would be interested in some program for launching/switching to programs using keyboard shortcuts. On the Mac, I use Quicksilver for this, where it actually Launches the program if it's not open, and switches to it if it is. However, Gnome Do unfortunately lacks this functionality and I have no way to do it off the top of my head.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a samba share setup as the following. When I browse to it from PC's added to my AD domain, they connect instantly. When i browse to it from a laptop that's not part of the domain, i get prompted for login credentials. what credentials should I be putting in? I can't seem to figure it out. or is it because i have the workgroup set to what my AD domain name is, and the laptops aren't part of that domain.
