I'm using "Ubuntu Classic" mode on Ubuntu 11.04. With previous Ubuntu releases I could rearrange the Window List (some may call it the "task bar") by clicking a window and dragging it, but now this does not work. Any idea on how to re-enable this feature?

Fresh install of 9.10 shows buggy behavior for the 'Window List Applet' in the gtk panel.
Usually, clicking on a button in the window list applet does nothing at all. It doesn't un-minimise it, set focus to the window, or bring it to the front.
In 8.10, the window was always raised immediately and given focus.
Sometimes it works, but I've not figured out the state in which it does. I currently have 10 windows open, clicking through them all in the window list raises most of them, but on some nothing happens.
Modifying the 'Window List Preferences' dialog does nothing to fix the problem.
I have checked System->Windows->Window Selection to 'Select windows when mouse moves over them'. 'Raise selected windows after an interval' is not selected.

Running Netbook Remix on a laptop and lost the app list. So now when the application is full screen there's no close button on the tab as found on the default install of Netbook Remix.I have gone into the ~/.gnome/apps/panel and backed up the configuration files to see if forcing the default would work or not

For example, i normally have indicator applett session in the top right hand corner of my screen, but if i logout and log back in again it has occasionally jumped across to the left of the active panel items.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi accidently got rid of the panel on top, so i deleted the bottom one, and started a new one on the bottom. now whenever i open a program, there used to be a "list" of all the open program/windows on the bottom, now that is goneso once i minimize a program, the only way for me to get back to it is to press alt+tab.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAny of you ever heard of OS/2 WARP? My dad is a longtime user, as was I until I got my Mac (and now my netbook with Ubuntu). In any case, the OS is a tad...obsolete and my dad at some point wishes to try Ubuntu. In his current setup, he has a "Window List" that can be activated using a keyboard shortcut. It's a popup (not in a menu bar or "panel") that can be moved around and resized. From that you can use your keyboard to navigate to the program or window that you want. For instance, if I want to get to Firefox, I press Ctrl+Escape (to activate the Window List) and then I hit "F" as many times as needed to highlight "Firefox". Then I just hit "Enter" and I'm there. Anything similar out there for Ubuntu (it is preferable if the solution has text as well as icons or else can have the icons removed leaving only the text)
In addition, both him and I would be interested in some program for launching/switching to programs using keyboard shortcuts. On the Mac, I use Quicksilver for this, where it actually Launches the program if it's not open, and switches to it if it is. However, Gnome Do unfortunately lacks this functionality and I have no way to do it off the top of my head.
recently my window list in the bottom panel (where it shows all the minimized windows, etc.) got removed. When I added it back,'s not aligned all the way to the left as expected, it's more towards the middle

I would like to expand the gnome-panel's Window List's y size to allow more applications to show without being crunched together.
That's the way the desktop currently looks, notice the tiny Window List in the top left. That's as big as it gets. I want to expand it all along the entire left side. I have a feeling the answer is in gconf-editor, but i just can't find the right field to modify.
So the other day my window list applet was somehow connected with a crash, and ubuntu asked me if I wanted to remove it. I don't know if this is a known issue, but when I want to copy/move a file to a folder containing lots of sub-folder displayed as list, I can't do a simple drag&drop, because there is no empty space to move this file. It will always go into one of the sub-folders. So obviously I have to go up one folder or to change view from list to Icon or Compact. Is it a known issue? Is there a solution? (Using GNOME nautilus 2.30.1)

Per the Gparted scan below, my hard drive is currently being sequenced as sda1 (NTFS data only, which I mounted in Ubuntu and write my working documents to), sda2 (XP operating system/boot drive). Ubuntu is on sda3, with home on sda4. I'm currently running 9.10.
I would like to eliminate the contents of sda2, and migrate sda1 contents to ext4. Question is, what are the best steps. I have good backups of everything, and sync my NTFS data to a NAS.

I tried to change the basic toolbar to cairo dock,a tutorial that i found told me to write in terminal gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.listso i write it and a window opened,i couled not find the text that told me(the tutorial i mean)so i closed the window,after that i keep taiking the same error

All I want is for my bootloader to show "Ubuntu" & "Windows XP" which are the only 2 OS's I have installed (dual booting). At the moment it shows Windows XP, Ubuntu, Ubuntu recovery mode & like 2 more.. which are also Ubuntu & recovery mode. I've never selected the other Ubuntu ones, only the first one. So, how can I remove the ones I don't want to show on the list.
