Ubuntu Multimedia :: RipperX Not Saving Id3 Tags To Some Files
Jan 8, 2011
I use RipperX to rip CD's on my Ubuntu home server. The files it rips and encodes are in mp3 and they are all fine.
However the system is not saving id3 information for the final two tracks, despite having all the information.
You can see what I'm describing in these images: [URL]
If you want more information just say, I'll get back to you.

I have a lot of avis with annoying metadata that show in vlc. Since I cannot figure out how to configure vlc in a way that it won't show the tags, ffmpeg should strip the tags. This is supposed to do the trick:

How can I set specific ID3 tags for multiple files? For example, I would like to set all files in a directory to the same album. (directly setting the album tag for files in a directory to the directory name would be even better)

I have most of my music on my hard drive in one big "Music" folder, and in Amarok this is seen as the collection. Everything is imported, works fine.
Until i change the ID3 tags of a file/album. Amarok refuses to load the new tags, and keeps displaying the old tags.
I have over 200 GB of music in that folder, some of it is badly tagged. When i realize that, i retag the files with Musicbrainz. And unless i scan the entire collection again, the new tags wont be loaded. Needless to say i can't listen to the respective album/file for hours, as the rescanning of that whole folder takes at least one hour.

I've finally got ripperx to work, but is there a way to keep it open between CD's?After each CD the program closes, I'd rather just pop the next CD in and start.Since I have about 250 CD's to rip this is somewhat of a pain.

I have installed RipperX and the Lame MP3 encoder, as well as Oggenc. I noticed that Ripperx plugins are loaded at boot. The thing which concerns me is that there are multiple instances of a plugin witht the same name showing in system monitor( or ps command). There are about 15 processes alone with the name "plugin-Lame."
Here's the output of ~$ ps x
Code:
Are these actually different? Or do I really have redundant instances running? I'm concerned because I have an old system with limited RAM, and all the plugins together make an impact. If they are all neccessary and needed for RipperX, is there a way to have them load up when RipperX is started, rather than at boot-time?

with the current Musicbrainz fiasco with Rythmbox and Sound Juicer I am now using RipperX. I like RipperX, but I would like to know if there are any command line parameters or some way of selecting the CD/DVD drive. It appears that RipperX can multi-task which would save me some time.

You will need "cuetag" for this which is part of the "cuetools" but since you already installed it (see previous seps), all you have to do is open the terminal, navigate to the folder where you just splitted some APE or FLAC files and type this:
Code:
cuetag *.cue split-track*.flac ;
(if you didn't change the file's name from split-trackNN.flac). All the split-track*.flac files will have tags in just a few seconds.so i did exactly what i was suppose to do but for some reason is still could not add the tags to my FLAC files..
Code:
kon@kon-laptop:~$ cd ~/Desktop
kon@kon-laptop:~/Desktop$ cd *ora*
kon@kon-laptop:~/Desktop/sDvorak $ cd *CD1*

I have a lot of mp3 files without any ID3 tag information. This is very annoying, because my iPod does not show them correctly. My Banshee shows them as "unknown artist" and the title. I would like to find them all in a bunch to batch update them.

This might not be the right place to ask this question, but it's software so I'll try this before going to Audio-specific boards. I have a bunch of MP3s (some ogg) with crazy names in crazy directories. I would like to make sure the tags are correct (possibly by hand) and then rename them/move them so that they are in places like
<artist>/<directory>/<songname>.mp3.
So I imagine a magic program where I can edit tags and then push a magic button that makes directories and copies the files as above. Any ideas?

For example, an mp3 file has all the tags filled - track number, year, genre, etc. But when in Amarok, some tags are not shown to me.Look at the attached screenshot, please. You see, when I look into track properties I can see that it HAS got a track number and a year. But it is not shown in playlist.

That in essence is my question. It is much easier to open a music folder in nautilus when you need to edit tags of music files.
I tried working with the nautilus-action configuration tool but to no avail. Can someone point me in the right direction?

I want to make a program that maintains a list of tags that can be attached to a set of files. Store the tags in the files. The main problem is that there is no way to get a list of all the tags without reading each and every file. And also what if you have an unused tag? Have a file that contains tag "keys" and file list "values". This seems like it would be fast and effective, but what if one of the files gets renamed?

I rip CDs using abcde and cdparanoia. The output MP3s have correct accents when I list them in a terminal.I then tag the songs using id3v2 from the command line wrapped in a script which outputs the tags to the screen as it writes. Again, the characters are there. However, when I read these tracks in any music player the accented characters are always corrupt. At what stage is this happening and how can I prevent it?

I am on Ubuntu 10.04 using Rhythmbox (0.12. as my favorite music player. Right now I'm cleaning up my music collection. Part of this job is to ID3-tag multiple files (artist, genre, etc.).
On some files this works great, ob others it doesn't and I get a gstreamer error or I cannot even change the current ID3-tags. Regarding the last problem, I assume that the problem might occur because of missing rights to edit ID3-tags.
So my question is: What permissions should I give to my music collection, so Rhythmbox is able to edit the files?

I just used EasyTAG 2.1.5 under Ubuntu 9.10 to update the tags on my music files running on Rhythmbox 0.12.5, and now Rhythmbox shows that the runtimes (Time) of dozens of my mp3's are now 27:03:11. That means Rhythmbox thinks all those songs are 27 hours, 3 minutes, and 11 seconds long, which they are not. Some are now shown as 54:06:23. So far they are all playing correctly, but the slider at the top of the Rhythmbox window barely moves, making it difficult, if not impossible, to jump to different points in the songs. Nothing else seems to have been affected.

I've been searching all over google for a way to extract album artwork embedded in id3 tags.
In an ideal world I could do this recursively in my music folder and have it save the artwork as say "cover.jpg" within the album's folder.
Anyone know of a script or program that can do this in either Linux or OSX?

I have a bunch of OGG files with TAGs I changed. Now I want to have the same changes done to the filename.I know I can do this easily with ie. EasyTAG but that makes all my songs get reindexed in Rhythmbox. This wouldn't be a problem hadn't I rated much of them already.s there a way to change the filename from within Rhythmbox, or with an external method, where the ratings are left intact. I need it to be done automatically, manually changing Rhythmbox' database file takes too much time with +2500 songs.

I share my music between ubuntu and windows 7 (nothing fancy just copy, paste, external hard drive). and have learnt that my music collection doesn't show up right in windows media player because WMP can't read version 2.4 right. most of my collection is saved in 2.4. I used mp3tag on windows for converting my whole collection but wiped the computer recently and had to start over. This time i would like to just convert my whole collection on my ubuntu pc through the terminal. I tried using EyeD3 but it didn't seem to work for me. But perhaps i typed the command wrong. Could someone show me either a proper command for converting my mp3 collection to v2.3 OR recommend another ubuntu program/commandline that can handle 7,500 songs and convert them to ID3v2 v2.3.

If I convert an audio file to a different format (such as mp3) using a pipe I lose the tags.
Code:
ffmpeg -i <filename> -f wav - | lame - output.mp3
If I knew the tags of the input file I could put them back using a program such as id3v2

I used Easy Tag to edit my songs' ID3 tags. Banshee reads them fine but Rhythmbox misreads them! For eg., blink 182, Blink 182, and Blink-182!!! Apparently it's because Easy Tag makes ID3v1 tags while Rhythmbox read ID3v4? That's SO stupid! What am I supposed to do now? I saw RB had a bug filed but it got closed because "it's not a problem with rhythmbox, it's a problem with ID3 tags." RB should be able to read them! That's ridiculous. So how do I fix the tags? As for Banshee, anyone else move from version 1.6 to 1.7.6? The new one crashes everytime I use it. It's simply awful. And this is supposed to lots of bugs fixed? It's the new stable version? What a joke! How do I fix this now? Or better yet, how to go back to version 1.6? ^ Never mind, I downgraded it. Still have the rhythmbox problem! I'm using Ubuntu Lucid 64 bit with Gnome. RB should be able to read them! That

I recently downloaded several MP3 albums from Amazon. Most of these albums contain works from several different composers. The problem is, the Rhythmbox music player in Ubuntu Maverick won't display composer tags. I am therefore searching for a way to overwrite the artist tag of each file with the composer info. This overwriting would need to be a batch process.
Let's say that I have an album of the New York Philharmonic performing works of a dozen different composers.I would like for the correct composer to overwrite New York Philharmonic in each file. Is it possible to use a program such as EasyTag do what I need? Please provide detailed instructions and/or a link to such details.
