Ubuntu Multimedia :: Kino H264 Doesn't Work In Karmic

Feb 11, 2010

I recently migrated my system to Karmic 9.10 from Hardy 8.04 Now that I want to convert some .avi videos to H.264 in Kino for upload, it doesn't work. In Hardy all was fine, I'd import the .avi files and export to h.264 mp4, then upload to ..... etc ... no problems. But with karmic; after I import the file into Kino, I then trim out the bits I don't want. Next I go to Export and select H.264 MP4 Single Pass (ffmpeg), then click the Export button; it 'locks the audio' and that's it - takes 5 seconds to 'finish' no matter how long the video clip is, and no mp4 file is generated or appears in the selected folder (same result with H.264 MP4 Dual Pass).

Then apt-get udpate
Then apt-get clean
Then apt-get install network-manager...

But still 0.8 version is downloaded and installed! How can I restore Karmic's version?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Kino Capture - Dropped Frames

Aug 9, 2010

I'm getting dropped frames from both Digital8 & MiniDV camcorders using Kino. MyCPU doesn't seem to be spiking. I've made sure compiz is disabled and no memory/cpu hungry apps are running. I'm using SATA drives so DMA shouldn't be the issue.

The video and audio that is captured seems to be fine.

Debian Multimedia :: Can't Render Text With Kino

I tried 'rm -rf ~/.kino-history' but this did not work.

I realized what I could have done wrong. I added deb-multimedia.org as a repository and installed mythtv and avidemux. I also did an update with aptitude and an upgrade with aptitude.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Karmic Koala Doesn't 'find' ATI Video Card

Feb 7, 2010

I'm trying to get the screen graphics working correctly on a newly purchased ACER Aspire 7740G laptop. It has a 17.3" 16:9 screen with an ATI Radeon Mobility HD5470 512MB graphics card.

The command LSPCI in Terminal gives.....

"02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Device 68e0"

I've also uploaded /var/ log/ xorg.0.log.

In System/Preferences/Display the pink coloured monitor screen has 'UNKNOWN' displayed on it with only 3 resolutions available.

I installed the ATI Catalyst Control centre but when it initialises, it produces an error saying that there is no driver installed - I thought the XORG log shows that the driver is installed.

The command ATICONFIG in Terminal reports.........

"aticonfig: No supported adapters detected" !

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Sound & Audio Device Doesn't Get Recognized In Karmic?

Mar 7, 2010

I just installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my laptop then immediately upgraded to Karmic 9.10. Pulseaudio installed by default. There's no sound although the mute button is not checked and the volume slide control is at medium. lspci gives:

00:14.2 Audio device: ATI Technologies IXP SB4x6 Hi Definition audio controller (rev01)

System >Preferences >Sound >Hardware tab: blank window "choose a device to configure" Output tab: "dummy" output stereo

So, it appears that somehow the audio device controller in my laptop is not recognized or its driver disabled, possibly by pulseaudio. Sound works fine in Windows 7 part of this dual-booted laptop.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Capture Video From Sony DCR-HC54 With Kino

Jul 10, 2010

I'm trying to capture video from my Sony DCR-HC21 video camera. I've managed to install Kino fine but was getting the error

aw 1394 kernel module not loaded or failure to read/write /dev/raw/1394
I could get it working by opening as root but then the files belong to root which I didn't want. So I did the following (as suggested in another thread:

chmod 777 /dev/raw1394

And now I get the error "No AV/C compliant cam connected or not switched on"

I've tried so many things ie [URL]

and as I'm a novice I'm reluctant to keep trying random things when I don't really know what its doing.

OK, it's back to the first error, is there anyway to run Kino and capture video without changing to root?

Debian Multimedia :: Kino Ffmpeg Export Options?

Jan 27, 2011

Kino is using ffmpeg, and I know there are a plethora of options. For instance, here is the output of the logfile from a file I made with h264 and the best quality available in Kino.#options: 768x576 fps=25/1 cabac=0 ref=1 deblock=0:0:0 analyse=0x1:0 me=dia subme=8 psy_rd=1.0:0.0 mixed_ref=0 me_range=4 chroma_me=0 trellis=0 8x8dct=0 cqm=0 deadzone=21,11 chroma_qp_offset=-2 threads=2 nr=0 decimate=1 mbaff=0 bframes=0 keyint=300 keyint_min=25 scenecut=0(pre) rc=abr bitrate=2048 ratetol=2.0 qcomp=0.50 qpmin=2 qpmax=31 qpstep=3 ip_ratio=1.25 aq=1:1.00Frankly, I am not that impressed with the result, and would like to use settings that give a better result, e.g. adjusting bitrate and more passes

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Lossless Padding Of H264 Video With Ffmpeg?

Mar 11, 2011

I have some videos in an mkv container that are 1920 pixels wide, but less than 1080 pixels high. This causes problems when playing the videos on a PS3 (after converting to an AVCHD system), because the PS3 won't centre the video, leaving a very large black bar at the bottom but none at the top. Is there a way to use mencoder or ffmpeg to losslessly add padding to the top and bottom to make the video 1920x1080?

If I use

Code:

ffmpeg -i video.mkv -acodec copy -vcodec copy -scodec copy -padtop 132 -padbottom 132 out.mkv

then ffmpeg won't do the padding, and the resulting file is basically exactly the same. If I use

Code:

ffmpeg -i video.mkv -acodec copy -vpre libx264-lossless_fast -scodec copy -padtop 132 -padbottom 132 out.mkv

I get

Code:

Output #0, matroska, to 'anr.mkv':

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Mplayer Fails To Play Back Some Mp4 H264 / Fix It?

Mar 13, 2011

I currently have mplayer installed with the binary codecs in place, but it seems that mplayer is quite picky with which files it wants to play.

I have three files that are all mp4 h264 .mkv's. One of them is ~20 minutes long (720p) and mplayer seems to do just fine. Another is around ~90 minutes (1080p) and within seconds the audio gets out of sync. The third file is also around ~90 minutes long (1080p) and refuses to play at all, throwing a mess of:

[h264 @ 0x5fdbac0]AVC: Consumed only 1 bytes instead of 521

Error while decoding frame!

The machine is fairly old (Athlon 64 X2 4200+), but I don't think it's a hardware performance issue. When it was running Windows XP it could handle any HD video I threw at it. Each one of these files plays perfectly on my Windows machine with Media Player Classic Home Cinema + ffmpeg...

Is there something wrong with ffmpeg or is support for h264 just not there yet?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Mediacenter With NVIDIA H264 Hardware Decoding?

Jun 8, 2011

I've setup a EEEBox 1501P exclusively to work as a Media Center. So i've picked up Ubuntu 11.04 x64, and Boxee x64 (latest), and installed the nVIDIA drivers directly from site. The problem is that video playback at 720p is a bit sloppy! I've tried on VLC player for example, and the CPU cores are at 10%. But when i use Boxee, one core gets stuck at 100%, and the others at 10%.

So this means that currently, boxee, cannot handle hardware acceleration in x86_64 Linux! My question is:What software can I use to set-up my Ubuntu-based Media Center?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Microphone Doesn't Work At All?

Mar 9, 2010

It's been almost two months since this problem started. I'm running 9.10, Karmic Koala, with all updates. I was hoping one of the updates would just fix this problem.

The microphone does not appear to work at all. It seems to exist because I have a choice for "Internal Audio Analog Stereo" under "sound preferences," but I don't know how else to check whether this is true. Sound Recorder does not record anything and Skype does not capture any sound from me.

how to run commands in the terminal and I consider myself an intermediate user, I just don't know anything about sound.

I can hear myself very faintly on the playback... but it is very quiet and there is a loud buzzing. There are no mechanical reasons for this buzzing, such as computer fan, etc...

Also, I cannot find the USB mic in Ubuntu Sound Prefereces...
