Ubuntu :: Screen Capture - Screen Grab Software - Not Fullscreen - Not Video
Feb 5, 2010
Hey I'm looking for something to grab a section of the screen ... like to allow me to drag a rectangle around a portion of the screen and when I release, capture only that -- in to the clipboard would be fine or at that point to a image file format which I could save on the file system.
Up untill this week I used to grab a streamed video from my root/tmp file. Video is nolonger streamed to this file. What has happened? and how can I grab streamed video?
i was watching some videos on videos in fullscreen and after being idle the screen turns off. is there a setting to change this or do i have to disable putting the display to sleep in the power manager?----- edit -----i forgot to mention that i am using ubuntu classic. also, i disabled putting the display to sleep in the gnome power manager, but the screen still shuts off if the system is idle. guessing that the gnome power manager isn't actually in control.
Vsync works normally, but when I try to watch video in fullscreen (be it ....., VLC or mplayer), the vsync just doesn't work and the screen tearing is terrible. I'm using the nvidia-nonfree 195.36.15 drivers (installed through the hardware drivers), on an nvidia geforce 8800 GTS 512 card.
i've got a mythbuntu 10.10 box connected to my tv; sometimes i want to use it to watch internet tv. owever, when i try to resize videos to full-screen, sometimes black bars intermittently flash across the entire screen. this does not happen when the video is in a window or on the web page, only when going into full-screen mode. unfortunately, on some of these sites, even the "large" in-page video selection is still too small to be comfortably watched from the couch.
i'd suspect it's something with flash, but a similar thing happens when i'm using skype inside a windows xp on vmware. black bars flashing across when in "full-screen" but just fine when zoomed up inside a window. and i don't think vmware video output is flash-based. so it may be something else entirely.
also, this doesn't happen on all internet video - i've only had it happen on video from nbc.com and nfl.com (i haven't really had the opportunity or reason to try many other sites yet), and it was only a little noticeable from the nfl.com but nearly unwatchable from nbc. yet if i go to videos, i have no trouble getting any of their videos running full-screen.
i have an integrated geforce 8200 graphics, and i'm running the nvidia proprietary drivers version 256. i'm not running 260 since its vdpau capability is questionable, and i need that for mythtv. i have a 64-bit system.
does anyone have any ideas regarding this? the fact that i'm getting consistently good results from videos yet consistently bad ones from the tv networks makes me wonder if it's something i'm even going to be able to fix.
As the title implies I can't use the fullscreen feature in a flash video because all the screen turns white &, wherever the pointer was, get noticed as a faint shadow. I can increase the screen only if using the keyboard shortcut <Ctl++> keys combination.Have Shockwave Flash 10.1.r82 add-on. Firefox version is 3.6.8. Ubuntu = 10.0.4 LTS.
On my Windoze machine, I use Replay Media Catcher 4 which runs silently in the background and captures any videos (FLV, AVI, MPG, WMV, etc) on any websites that I happen to go to, and saves them to a folder on my hard drive. Right now, if I want to save a video that I'm wathing from Ubuntu, I have to go to /temp, guess which file it is, and copy it after it downloads fully but before it finishes playing, otherwise Firefox deletes it from /temp right away. This is a pain.
Yes, there are screen motion capture utilities in the Ubuntu Software Center, but they're just screen scrapers that result in low quality copies without any audio. I want something that will actually capture the video stream and save it as a file. Even if it doesn't save all videos automatically like RMC4, and I have to right click on the video to Save As, that would be better than copying it from /temp at the precise exact moment.
i have ubuntu 9 10 i have been searching in the internet but i have not found a solution, my problem is that i cant capture the screen with screen shot key (ptr sc) my keyboard has it under the key home, so in windows i have to use the
I'm running Fedora 13 (64-bit) on a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop with integrated Intel graphics (lspci reports it as: 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)), and am having a strange problem with watching iPlayer in fullscreen. The video will work fine in the web browser at default size, and most times even in fullscreen as well, but sometimes on switching it to fullscreen the entire screen goes white with only the cursor visible. The sound keeps on playing and the cursor responds to mouse movements but I haven't been able to do anything to fix the screen (I tried bringing up a terminal and logging out, as well as doing a "compiz --replace" but neither had any visible effect - obviously I may have typed them wrong since the screen was white, but I tried multiple times). As mentioned above, I am using Compiz desktop effects, and also had to check the "Unredirect Fullscreen Windows" box in CCSM to get iPlayer to play video in fullscreen in the first place.
The annoying thing is that I haven't been able to consistently reproduce the error, in that sometimes it takes multiple attempts of going fullscreen and/or videos for it to occur. However, it has been pretty consistent in that it has only taken a couple of different videos to be played for it to happen (oddly I don't think I've had it happen on the first fullscreen attempt of the first video yet, but that might not mean anything).
I insert my DVD into my machine. The little "waddya wanna do" window then opens, and I select "play in VLC." I then press the play option on the video menu (not the play button on the VLC controls). Then the VLC window turns black, or the part where the video is supposed to appear does, anyway. So double-clicking to get to fullscreen sometimes fixes the problem, but then I can only view it in fullscreen, not good. It didn't fix the problem this time, so I double-clicked again to get out of fullscreen. Then my whole display turns black and white. WTH? The display problem fixes on a reboot.
This happens on a regular basis when I try to play movies. My display is, right now, black and white. After I finish this post I'll restart my computer to fix the colors. Also, it should be helpful that when I move the VLC window or am going to/from fullscreen, I can see the movie for a split second, and in full color. The rest of the screen stays B & W, though. Also, for some reason, when I play a movie, VLC open two windows: one with the video, and the other with a visualization and a title bar saying "VLC (X11 output)"
I have recently switched to Debian and got everything working great except for one thing..When I want to kill some time by playing a game (in wine or native) in fullscreen it works fine except for a big number I get in the left corner of my screen that won't go away until I close the game and open the ATI control center. This is very frustrating and quite annoying. I am using a dual monitor setup and I have tried disabling my 2nd monitor when I play a game but that still causes this problem. Also I am using the drivers I got right off the ATI website.
On my Mac, when I press F2, I am able to take a screen shot of a selected area. Is it possible to assign a hot key to do the same thing on my Ubuntu 10.04 PC?
I need to take a screen capture while an application is running. The application is a touch screen calibration utility and alt-Prnt Scrn does not work when the calibration utility is active. Is there another way for me to capture the screen while the utility is active?
system - screen/mouse/keyboard/hard drive all freeze. if I am in the middle of video or audio, last second of audio loops. I get a terminal screen (attached).
Also, If there is a step by step overall troubleshooting guide,I would appreciate its location. This did not freeze under 10.10, but I have changed wifi card (changed driver) and loaded VirtualBox from oracle (not Ubuntu - VB not running during freeze)) - no other changes.
I am working on a gym class display screen which was built by others. It is operated under Ubuntu. Everytime I click on Firefox, the page goes to fullscreen, but the problem is that the gym class display is not zoomed to full screen (which is what we need). there are black blank parts on both the right and the bottom of the screen. There is no shortcut key working under firefox either, which means I can't zoom the screen or even enter url for any websites.I checked the gym class website on my computer, everything looks perfect. I think there must be some setting wrong on the operating machine.
I'm having problems with the screen capture utility in Fedora 11. Everytime i capture a screenshot, it looks like this:[url]
I've tried turning off Compiz, but that doesn't do anything. I suspect it may have something to do with the kms (I have an Intel 82855/855GM, which has had issues in beta).
I wonder if there is the possibility of getting to press any key and the F6 for example, Fedora starts up a screenshot, equal to application "form screen capture image" in the menu acessories .. The problem is that if I want to do this I have to be opening up the application every time .. and I like to do with was fast, just by clicking F6 or printscreen for example ..
I have installed XVidCap Screen Capture. If I record my screen with XVid Cap Screen Capture there is no sound. But if I record with Desktop Recorder there is sound. What is wrong?
My screen capture software, shutter and system's default "take screenshot", do not function normal any more. It can only capture the desktop wallpaper, not any other elements on the desktop, nor any other opened windows. It's just like taking an x-ray picture by passing all the other objects/elements/running programs on top of the desktop wallpaper. Any ideas? I am using Fedora 14 64 bit. The screen capture software were working fine, though.
I am looking for an screen capture application which auto runs when ubuntu starts up and work without any instructions or clicking capture or anything, = "Some1" ** Turns on the System --> UBUNTU Loads --> the Screen capture Runs--> it takes screen shots with out "Some1"s knowledge// turns off system.... I get home -->> turn on system -->> screen shots r saved.. n um checking em...!!!
As the title says, I'm looking for a command to resize on the fly as I capture. My desktop's 1680x1050, but I want to shrink down to say 1280x720.. or other.
I need a bash script that auto captures the screen (every 30 sec) and then realize an archive with those screenshots. The script will allow me to quering by user name and date and time framing and if exists a capture archive, it will display a slideshow that presents the captures of specified time.
I'm trying to capture my desktop screen and audio , before I used xvidcap but after upgrading my system I can not use it and also recordmydesktop anymore these APPs hanged when I try to use them. Now I try to use recorditnow via ffmpeg recorder interface , it work properly in recording the desktop but it does not record the sound , so I tried to add below options to its command -f alsa -ac 2 -i hw:0,0 but it just record sound at the beginning and just for 1 second. Also when I try to capture my desktop with ffmpeg directly from command line with below command I face with same problem!!! ffmpeg -f x11grab -s 1024X768 -r 30 -i :0.0 -f alsa -ac 2 -i hw:0,0 ~/out.mpg
