When I talk to anybody on Skype, the sound is really slow, it sounds like I am a robot. Its running at maybe 1/2 normal speed. I am using Xine backend and internal microphone.

Currently enjoying TuxGuitar, but I was wondering if there is a way to use some sort of Creative Commons drum kit samples instead of the current MIDI drums. Also would like to use some sort of synth or samples for guitars. I have looked for tutorials on this, but have not found anything yet.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI load up Package Manager in Fedora, select 'Fonts' on the left so as to show all Fedora repository font packages, and then see all the individual font packages available for installation. I am looking for a range of fonts for my documents (some artistic, some not, I'm not sure exactly what I want), and so I want to view a sample of the font in each package eg. 'The quick brown fox jumps over...' written in the font.
After selecting a font package in PackageManager, I can click on the 'Homepage' link and go to possibly see a sample of the font. But this 'Homepage' clicking has to be done manually for each font package, over and over, for possibly hundreds of font packages!!! Where can I find a single long webpage (possibly divided into categories) which has short samples of all Fedora repository fonts?? A page I can scan down quickly to find the fonts I like.
I am a final year BE student. I am working on the ehci-0.6 library for tracking the the face in fedora 13 in vmware. I am able to compile the code but could not run the sample programs. The error is as follows. After I compile the program:

How to overcome this kind of error. Blank window opens and goes on showing the error mentioned above and ends ven given ctrl + c. The expected output to open a window and display the capture the person present in front of the webcam and print d coordinates of the face captured.
i have sound but my mic capture seems to be not working in skype or well anything else and I'm confused on what to do after searching. It's an integrated mic somewhere in my laptop. I enabled capture in Kmix but that didn't seem to do anything.

I am unable to capture sound from the sound card. I used to be able to do this with ease in SuSE 10.0 and 11.2. Now I have 11.4 and not only do I NOT have access to the sound card's channels (for base, treble, turning the mic on/off, and line in, Analog Capture Boost, etc) but now I can't seem to get at the settings for capturing sound coming from the sound card. I have tried using the Alsa mixer by way of the terminal and went to the Capture section and turned all of the settings all the way up. I didn't see any settings for Capture Boost as was available with 11.2's Alsa mixer GUI. Here's more of my info:

Isn't there ANY GUI sound mixer available that will give me access to all the channels I require? I not only record sound from my sound card, but I also use my mic at times for Skype and I like to be able to turn it off when not in use, rather than unplugging it all the time. I used to be able to do this with 11.2 and 10.0 and I really liked it that way. BTW, the plug for the mic is in the back of the computer and it's not convenient to have to plug/unplug it from there each time. For some apps, it's just a good thing to have all the sound settings done and in place before starting up the app. This I cannot do right now because of the changes to KMix and the Alsa GUI. I really really don't like this at all.
I installed opensuse 11.3 KDE for the first time last week. Amarok works fine with mp3 files. Also I installed VLC and kaffiene with all available codecs but unfortunately I have no sound in my avi movies. I can not know what is the reason although it was working fine in windows.

I must admit I didn't have the guts to check the whole videos...Its kind of torture to watch a full length music video with stuttering sound... Man...I'm asking so many questions here I'm starting to get ashamed of myself
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been searching for an answer through most of the recent posts about sound issues but have not been able to find a solution. I am currently unable to capture sound from the "Line" input on my sound card. I do have sound and is working correctly for all applications and I do have P/A disabled (I'm not a huge fan of the sound quality with P/A enabled). I have checked and re-checked many settings but to no avail have not been able to capture sound. I'm sure I may be missing something or have not done something in order for this to work. I was using openSUSE 11.4 on a different pc and had no problems, unfortunately this is a different pc with a different sound card which is on-board so I am not entirely familiar with it yet.
It is a C-media CMI9880 which shows up as a Intel HDA (ICH6) and appears to be configured correctly.
I have recently got a new car, which as a USB port to connect either an iPOD or Storage Device. For some reason I decided to get a portable 500GB HDD to put my music on. When you plug in an iPOD you get the nice options to search by genre, artist, etc. You don't get this option with a storage device, just the option to go through the folders. The car stereo will read playlists. I'm wondering whether there's an easy way to create playlists so I get these options:
Artists > Artists A-D
Artists > Artists E-G
etc
Genre > Genre A-D
etc
I know rhythmbox can do this manually (as can iTunes) but surely there's an easier way. I'm planning to keep adding more music so an automated process would be nice to keep the playlists refreshed. Where the playlists are saved onto my HDD rather than having to save them one by one.
1 i have tried to get my sound output working in totem kaffiene and banshee to no avail. reading through several blogs posts and the such of likes has gotten me to ttry and set pulse alsa and oss so im even more confused. i can get a sound test to play but cannot get music to work??

First problem was that when I used microphone on Audigy 4 (from some reason recognised as Audigy 2) the sound which people received from me was very chirpy. This problem was solved easily, I just turned my on-board sound system on and started using micorphone from integrated card. And here comes my weird problem. Microphone works all right, but only for short period. After some time after I start talking to someone on Skype the microphone turns itself off, but I can still hear my interlocutors. The only solution is to go to Yast and restart sound system or to restart whole computer, both of which are not real solutions, but well, they sort of work. I'm using Opensuse 11.2 x64.

I am using a USB headset and a logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 with Ubuntu 10.04
1. When I change the sound to internal sound the webcam works in Skype but I have not sound.
2. When I change the sound to the USB headset (sound output) the webcam does not work in Skype.
I recently converted an amd 64 bit WINdows machine to Lucid 64 bit. Everything has gone well. I had numerous issues with Pulseaudio that I removed it. Sound with Alsa has been great, including system theme sounds. I can record via a mike as well. What I cannot do is to capture sounds coming through the sound card. When I record I am getting empty files. The mixer indicates that there are two capture devices. Here is some data on my audio card.

I tried various things I read on different websites, and nothing worked. View 9 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to make Ubuntu play sound like Windows 7? I mean when i, for example, listen to music in Windows 7 the sound is much clearer and besides that i can use room correction to obtain a better surround feeling, but when i listen to music in Ubuntu the sound is not very clear and it sounds like stereo even though the sound is played back through all the speakers (the bass is also a little bit to high).
So far i've tried installing the alsa driver and modifying the output levels of each channel, but didn't quite have the same result as the room correction feature in Windows, and the sound wasn't any clearer either. Note: I have an onboard Realtek soundcard and Logitech x530 speakers
So I recently upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 and then to 10.04, and I love it!
But there's only one key problem -- sound playback.
When I'm playing an mp3 file in rhythmbox, or any other player, it'll skip when I maximize or minimize windows, or do anything that really uses resources.
And on top of that, if I just let it keep going, it'll eventually just stop playing the song, and the progress bar will jump forward and do the same for other songs, not even playing them.

I've deduced that it's probably a sound driver thing. I've downloaded the driver for my card, but I the directions tell me to install it in

I have a problem with trying to capture sound through the input jacks on my computer. The sound plays through from the inputs to the output, and it's volume is controlled by alsa mixer, but no programs can pick up the stream, including the PulseAudio and Gnome Volume controls.I have tried many of the suggestions to be found in these forums for sound issues, including removing Pulse, configuring the model in alsa-base.conf, and messing with every setting I can find.Here are the outputs from the commands from the troubleshooting guides:

When I start Audacious and make it play music, after a random time the player
freezes up and the music stops playing. I have to make Audacious force quit and restart it, then it works for some time again. When I play a ..... video (in Firefox), it plays fine for some time and then it loses sound and either continues playing silent or the video stops and doesn't start again until I reload the page.

I don't know if this is a general problem in all distros, but as a beginner i decided to install Ubuntu as its popular for users with minimalistic or not much knowledge about Linux at all. i'm using ubuntu since 8.04, and the current (9.10) is a fresh install on new hdd.the problem was the same each version (8.04, 8.10, 9.04, 9.10) - while i'm playing the video (no matter if i use mplayer [smplayer], gstreamer [totem] or adobe flash plugin [videos]) the playback freezes randomly for about 5-10 sec. during the freeze the movie is still played, i can hear the sound is ok. if i press [space] in smplayer it pauses the playback, so the responses for keyboard actions are ok. not for the mouse clicks however. i can still move the cursor around the screen but it seems the system is not aware of it (clicking on the "pause" button doesnt pause the movie). except the cursor, nothing changes on the screen (if the im [pidgin] window was blinking because of new message, it freezes etc etc).
is there any kind of log i could look into just to try figuring out the problem?it is impossible to watch any movie on my pc (currently i don't have tv)i installed windows on external hdd once and it played videos fine so i suppose it's not hardware problem .
I am new to this forum and have recently switched to Ubuntu. The OS installed without a hitch and was able to get video card, wireless internet installed with relative ease. However, I have encountered a problem installing my E-mu 0404 PCI sound card via the ALSA packages in Synaptic.
Code: 04:03.0 Multimedia audio controller [0401]: Creative Labs SB0400 Audigy2 Value [1102:0008] As you can see once the packages were installed the OS could see the hardware ok, but when I tried playing a standard MP3 file (16 bit, 44.1khz, 192kbps) in Totem it started playing the file back around 15-20% faster than normal? To me it sounds as if the software is playing the audio back at higher sample rate than 44.1khz hence the faster speed, though I'm not 100% on that.
The next thing I tried was playing the same file back in VLC and it was exactly the same (15-20% too fast), but this time it was horrible and glitchy as well, almost as if the audio buffer size was set to small. The same thing happened when I tried playing back some flac and wav files (all 16 bit, 44.1khz) also. I have searched google (and read the comprehensive sound card guide on this forum) and read several forums, guides, etc. for anybody posting the same issue with this particular card but could find nothing. From all reports I've read this card should work fine under ALSA. For the record I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 64bit kernel running on a Dell Dimension 9200 (Intel Core2Duo E6400 2.13ghz) with 2GB RAM.
I've installed Skype on my Debian Lenny AMD64 system using method describe in [URL] . I also installed pulseaudio using aptitude, but not sure that this required.
I can sign in to Skyp, call out to my local phone number; phone rings. But I have no sound through my Logitech ClearChat Comfort USB headset and no sound is heard on the phone.
If I click on Applications/sound & video/pulseaudio volume control, I get:
Connection failed: Connection refused
1) Am I missing a configuration step? If so what do I need to do where?
2) If not configuration, is there another issue that needs to be resolved? What? Where?
3) Why do I see Connection refused when I clike on pulseaudio volume control?
Note: I tried to listen to npr, but no sound there either.
I installed skype, and all the sound works, except for the fact that it doesn't ring when someone calls me!!! All i see is a little pop up that says someone is calling me, but I cannot hear the ringtone. When i pick up, i hear the other end clearly, there's just no ringtone with someone calls me
Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it?
