I burned a bunch of files months ago on DATA dvds to keep copies just incase my external died, so i wanted to grab a few files, and the CD won't show up.
Some of them work, some dont, all were tested and confirmed to be working when i burned them a while back using Windows 7 and some where made using Vista
I don't know if I'm doing something wrong but I've been running Ubuntu or a variant for about a year now and suddenly every now and then one or two of my documents (open office or pdfs) have no information and they won't open.

Anyway I'm having this problem, I'm running a file server at home for my video, data, music and so on. I've used ubuntu untill now (server is also running ubuntu), and I've used vlc to watch the files directly from the server, I never had any problems with it until now (in ubuntu gnome). I navigated with nautilus to a location on the server double clicked and the video opend in my local vlc. Now I'm getting the tittle error, using opensuse 11.2 kde 4 and dolphin. Also I'm told to check the log...
While back I installed dolphin in my gnome on ubuntu, and i remember I got the same error when i tred to open the file on a server and tried to play it in vlc tru dolphin. So...Is this a known issue? Could this be related to dolphin/kde? Where is the vlc log file in opensuse 11.2? Where can I find some workarounds or something?
I'm experiencing a problem running Banshee 2.0 on my Ubuntu 11.04 system. Basically, I'm getting the following fatal error, the code of which is quoted hereunder. Of note is that uninstalling and reinstalling Banshee (through Ubuntu Software Centre) doesn't fix this problem. I make all as mentioned in this guide [URL] and the MediaTomb working with the script but when I try to open .mkv file PS3 says that "The data type is not supported" in same time it shows the files in the menu normally and marked it unsupported thumbnail after I try to play it.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi recently moved from Ubuntu to Debian(squeeze).. i am very pleased with squeeze except for this bug..I have this python script i wrote to change my wallpaper (through Gconf), the script would be called by cron from time to time.The problem i am facing in Debian is that this script stopped working.I am exporting the $DISPLAY=:0 in Cron, (this is how it worked in Ubuntu)..the cron job i used is below:

As of this morning I cannot open pdf's by clicking on them in firefox. I can download them and open them from the download window or even from the folder they are saved to, but not from the browser. Evince opens and says: Unable to open document Error opening file: No such file or directory.

I do have my old login name and passwd in a book. How can I open the data it was the old encrypted home directory. I have an icon "Acess your private Data" and something called link to Acess Your private data. There I can read link (broken) so the broke link is sorted out, as i do have now a directory in my home with the same name as it has been, /home/coconews/ and that is fine
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am facing a severe problem on many Desktop PC's, whenever an employee is working in Gnome-Open-Office.org document (i.e. Wordprocessor, SpreadSheet, or any other Gnome-office application) and due to power outage after restarting, the previously open document either does not open or it shows a recovery dialogue after clicking on recovery button or clicking on cancel in either case document contain nothing (empty). The file size of the document is either 0kb or within few Kbs range.
Any one have any idea about it ? what to do ?? or any other alternative which is already tested in such environment (i.e. electricity failure )? or any options to be turned on/changed?
Evince in non-gnome systems is unable to open external link. The error msg it shows is

This was a problem I had on Arch linux and the fix was to change the locking options in the soffice script but I've tried that fix here and it doesn't work. I've seen a lot of discussions but they all go back to changing the locking options in soffice, has anyone got any alternative fixes or one that definitely works with locking?

I love to use a data modelling tool, like the one from MySQL. Yet, I have a hard time finding some documentation over data modelling a data vault datawarehouse using open source tools. Pentaho looks promising, but I need to keep this low-budget. So low-budget it needs to be free. MySQL Workbench has a moddelling tool as well. Yet it does not support a data vault scheme.Has anyone any experience in setting up a datawarehouse? Or in particular a data vault datawarehouse using open source tools?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a PC with OpenSuse 11.1. Beside root there are two other users on the system. Now I have installed a new PC with OpenSuse 11.2. Only one user is set up until now. I installed the hard disk from OpenSuse 11.1 into the new PC on IDE Primary Slave, because I wanted to copy some files from the old system. OpenSuse 11.2 has mounted the old disk automatically in /media/disk and /media/disk-1. The problem is that I can't find any files or directories from the users. I could find only one file from root in /media/disk-1/root/Desktop. Why can't I see the files? Does it have anything to do with UID or SUID?

To register the data source its 'FILE'> 'WIZARDS' then' ADDRESS DATA SOURCE.' But OO doesn't show the 'ADDRESS DATA SOURCE' at the bottom of the list, so I am stuck. Apart from that, I have had no problems with ubuntu and its working well.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI can't burn a data disk through Ubuntu.I tried using the built-in disk creator, It had some kind of error saying the disk cannot be mounted. So I used Brasero instead and I got essentially the same error. When I tried to open both CD's the files appeared to be present but were all corrupt. Braso works fine for burning music CD's but I can't get it to work for data. here is the error log from Brasero:

The following message comes up when I boot up: Logging in user Warning: Cannot open ConsoleKit session: Unable to open session: Launch helper exited with unknown return code 0. When I press OK, the system completes the start up and everything looks normal. But when I try to connect to internet, I get the following message:
KNetworkManager cannot start because the installation is misconfigured. System DBUS policy does not allow it to provide user settings; contact your system administrator or distribution. KNetworkManager will not start automatically in future. If I reboot the system, I logg in successfully. So far the problem has appeared approximately upon every second time I boot up. Rebooting the system seems to take care of it.

After upgrade from 4.4.1 to 4.4.2 it worked fine for a week or so.
I do a clean install of slackware64 13.1 beta1 with KDE and switch default runlevel to 4 in /etc/inittab.
I try to login in kdm, I always come back to the login....
I try this with default runlevel 3 and an .xinitrc with "ck-launch-session startkde" .. works without problems, so I switch back to default runlevel 4, now i can login and only get the error "Cannot open ConsoleKit session: Unable to open session..."

In my application, we are using Publish/subscribe model implemented in JAVA and when I implemented it on windows to windows os,it is working fine and able to publish the right data and even when I am trying the same between two different OS i.e between Windows and Solaris sparc or opensolaris. I am getting the expected data.
But when I am doing the same thing with same code on Linux and any other OS,not able to publish data on other OS's but when I am publishing the data from other OS to Linux,I am getting the right data.
