View 1 Repliesready some 3gp files so had to install the w32codecs and mplayer version from the medibuntu repository. Now I can play back these files perfectly with mplayer from teh command line but when I open them with smplayer there is no video, just (choppy) sound. Xine also plays them back now although it didn't before. I know the first time I ran smplayer on this installation I had to choose which version of mplayer it was running with but don't know if I can do this again to tell it to use the installed medibuntu mplayer. I'm at a bit of a loss as to why the front-end smplayer would not simply play files with the exact same results as mplayer from the CLI. I haven't rebooted since,
View 9 Replies View Relatedsmplayer won't play any of my online radio stations in .asx format. vlc and totem will play them so it is not a big deal, but I would like smplayer to work.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have mentioned this in another thread elsewhere but perhaps this is a better location. In Opensuse 11.3 I was able to play files on my NAS drive from within smplayer over samba shares or ftp. I would simply use dolphin to browse to the file on the nas drive (either through samba or ftp protocol), double click the .avi file and it would load smplayer and begin playing immediately.
In 11.4 I have samba set up using the same smb.conf file However, if I double click the .avi file it copies the entire contents to the local computer before launching smplayer. If I use smplayer's file selector and navigate to the file on the samba share I get the message "you can only select local files" This is a different behaviour to that from 11.3 However, using the ftp protocol from within dolphin smplayer launches immediately and begins playing. smplayer is launched using the shortcut command
Code:
smplayer %U
Does anybody have any suggestions on a workaround or how to correct? Using kaffeine I have no problems. Double click the file on the nas drive and kaffeine launches immediately and begins playing.
I have avi, mpeg etc files associated with SMplayer. When I double click a file SMplayer DOES lunch but it never starts the playback. Not even the play key is active, and the seek bar and volume bar are frozen. If I go Open-->File and chose a file, everything works great.
View 14 Replies View RelatedAfter many days of trying to tweak Ubuntu 9.10 desktop i386. This subject will focus on my dvd drive. ...Here is what I have done, but I'm not sure what I did or still need to do, or to do different. ...
Basically the problem is, I can't play store bought DVDs, but I can play my copies of them.
When using MDPlayer that I added to Ubuntu, I can play the copies of my store bought DVDs, but not the originals. However, when using Ubuntu 9.10's movie player, it wont do anything and I'll have to do a force quit to close it.
I learned that this may because there is a repository of packages that cannot be included into the Ubuntu distribution, as I'm sure you already knew.
...Yet, Most people have worked around these issues.
I came across the Medibuntu site: [url]
Running the Terminal, I added the bash command that adds Medibuntu's repositiry to Ubuntu. It also adds Medibuntu's GPG key to the keyring.
(The sudo wget - etc etc etc --quiet update)
Then I jumped down to the... "This command should be run in the Terminal, after adding the repository:" ...And did that. (sudo sed -e 's/ etc etc etc /medibuntu.list)
I'm using ubuntu 10.04. I installed SMplayer from this repository. But I cant hear any sound in this SMplayer when I tried to play .flv files (other format are playeing nicely) But these flv files are playing nicely on vlc (theres no sound problem on vlc). So what should I do to get sound when I play flv on SMplayer?

Using smplayer from Packman in 11.3 - If I play a video (.avi, mp4...whatever) Use space bar to pause. Press to resume fails, but only if you have watched a fair bit or have moved on in the movie.Interestingly the pause symbol comes off as if play has resumed but it's not actually playing. You can press pause again and it shows it as if pausing again.
Darn, this hard to explain.I switched to VLC and it's fine but I can't seem to get that to pick up where I left off (enqueue).ie; if you have the same experience I'd be interested to know.or you know the setting in vlc to resume a movie where you left off..
Whenever I plug my Zune in, Rhythmbox recognizes all the songs on it but when I doubleclick on a song to play it, the song doesn't play and Rhythmbox quits. Any suggestions on how to fix it? I'm running a Dell XPS 410 with 4GB RAM and a 1.75 GHz processor. Also, I imported a CD and it plays fine.

I was wondering if you could help me out with this Flash problem: sometimes, Flash elements don't play in my browser window - there's just a big white area where my Flash should be. I have to close and re-open Firefox. This especially happens when I activate the "Flashblock" plugin, a very useful tool that blocks all Flash unless you click on it and choose to play it. Whenever I have that enabled, most of the time, clicking on the "play" button produces the white area where the Flash object should be. It's Karmic 64 and Firefox 3.5, Shockwave Flash 10.0.

When I start Rhythmbox on my laptop (Ubuntu 10.10), it sees my PC (appears under "Shared" in the left panel), but the tracks won't show on the list, it seems as if it fails to retreive the list of media. No matter how long I wait, nothing happens, the tracklist remains empty forever.

I'll attach the console output rhythmbox generates when starting up,
