Dec 24, 2010smplayer won't play any of my online radio stations in .asx format. vlc and totem will play them so it is not a big deal, but I would like smplayer to work.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Unable To Play Files On NAS Drive From Within Smplayer Over Samba Shares Or Ftp?
May 21, 2011I have mentioned this in another thread elsewhere but perhaps this is a better location. In Opensuse 11.3 I was able to play files on my NAS drive from within smplayer over samba shares or ftp. I would simply use dolphin to browse to the file on the nas drive (either through samba or ftp protocol), double click the .avi file and it would load smplayer and begin playing immediately.
In 11.4 I have samba set up using the same smb.conf file However, if I double click the .avi file it copies the entire contents to the local computer before launching smplayer. If I use smplayer's file selector and navigate to the file on the samba share I get the message "you can only select local files" This is a different behaviour to that from 11.3 However, using the ftp protocol from within dolphin smplayer launches immediately and begins playing. smplayer is launched using the shortcut command

Does anybody have any suggestions on a workaround or how to correct? Using kaffeine I have no problems. Double click the file on the nas drive and kaffeine launches immediately and begins playing.

Jun 27, 2010In my older computer, with Linux Fedora 10, with SMPlayer I can play wmv, avi, flv and mp4 files. In my new computer, with Fedora 13, I cannot play flv files well. They are played with shadows and colour lines.

Dec 26, 2010ready some 3gp files so had to install the w32codecs and mplayer version from the medibuntu repository. Now I can play back these files perfectly with mplayer from teh command line but when I open them with smplayer there is no video, just (choppy) sound. Xine also plays them back now although it didn't before. I know the first time I ran smplayer on this installation I had to choose which version of mplayer it was running with but don't know if I can do this again to tell it to use the installed medibuntu mplayer. I'm at a bit of a loss as to why the front-end smplayer would not simply play files with the exact same results as mplayer from the CLI. I haven't rebooted since,

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Streaming Videos Only Play Correctly Some Of The Time?
Aug 31, 2010Over the past week or two I've been noticing that I've been having more and more problems with playing streaming videos. I haven't been able to find anything consistent about when the videos don't play correctly. Theres been videos where I've just had to wait a day or two to see even though I know from other people that theyre working. Sometimes I get nothing, sometimes its just sound and sometimes its just video. It doesn't seem to depend on the websites either, earlier today I was able to get one video on a webpage to play correctly but the other one on that page would only give me sound for a couple of seconds and then stop like it was buffering even though the status bar showed it had loaded the entire video. I don't think its just a firefox problem either because I was having the same problems at the same websites running opera as well.

Mar 11, 2011I am working off of a recent clean install of Lucid (10.04.02) and I have relatives in Hawaii and this morning I tried to go to kitv.com to watch the live tsunami issues. Only to learn that the live feeds would not work.
I have gone and installed the gstreamer plugins for mms as well as the vlc plugin for the same. I have tried with both chrome and firefox and to no luck on getting the live feed to work. I have no problems getting the videos to play from hulu or ..... so I am at a loss as to why I am having such issues.
I will post output of any commands that may be needed.
With FireFox I have installed mediaplayerconnectivity and have it setup for vlc to launch on any mms streams. With the live feed I get the following error:

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Play Streaming Flash Videos Online - Sound Does Not Work
Apr 25, 2010running kubuntu 9.10 karmic koala, and my sound settings -at first glance- seem to be in order... a strange thing is occurring, is my machine haunted? my sound works when:
a. the machine boots up
b. files are played in dragon player
c. the machine shuts down
my sound does not work when:
1. i try to play streaming flash videos online (e.g. videos videos show the image but no sound will play)
2. the same goes for vlc media player: images yes, sound no.
3. i use skype *edit: additional problem*
i made no changes, that i know of, to my machine before this started happening. one day everything was working fine and i turned off my machine to go to sleep. the next day, i turn on my machine, and surprise, the sound doesn't work in some instances.

But I cant hear any sound in this SMplayer when I tried to play .flv files (other format are playeing nicely) But these flv files are playing nicely on vlc (theres no sound problem on vlc). So what should I do to get sound when I play flv on SMplayer?

Aug 11, 2010I need to play or preferably convert (i.e. to MP3) old SNG files, which contain voice records. From what I could find, it's basically a MIDI created by synthetiser. I think it was recorded by some ancient VLC player. I failed so far to play it on anything I could download.

Sep 4, 2010Using smplayer from Packman in 11.3 - If I play a video (.avi, mp4...whatever) Use space bar to pause. Press to resume fails, but only if you have watched a fair bit or have moved on in the movie.Interestingly the pause symbol comes off as if play has resumed but it's not actually playing. You can press pause again and it shows it as if pausing again.
Darn, this hard to explain.I switched to VLC and it's fine but I can't seem to get that to pick up where I left off (enqueue).ie; if you have the same experience I'd be interested to know.or you know the setting in vlc to resume a movie where you left off..

Jul 9, 2011I've got a small problem with Banshee that I need some help with, if possible. I'm currently using the latest version of Ubuntu 11.04 and it's up to date. The problem i'm having is with Banshee playing music files over my DAAP share. My DAAP server is running Firefly (mt-daapd), and Banshee can see the server and shares just fine. It loads the song list from the server, but when I select a song to play it just sits there. Rhythmbox works just fine, sees the share and plays the songs ok (which is what i've fallen back to for the moment), so I know it's not a hardware or software problem from the sound "system".
Other features of Banshee play just fine, including internet radio stations, internet archives, and importing songs from the server (which makes the song local instead of networked from a single source). Ok, so streaming from the DAAP share isn't working; here's the output from the terninal I started Banshee from:

Debian :: Best Way To Play Streaming Audio
Jan 10, 2011I listen to streaming audio a lot. All types of music, news, talk radio, etc.I have found that the Totem movie player is the most reliable player. Rythmbox is good too but seams to drop the streams a little more that Totem. The main problem with Totem is that I find the play list kind of clunky to use.
Q1: Are there better players for streaming audio?
A lot of radio stations now open in there own "players". I don't like all of the advertisements and other bandwidth eating crap in these "players".
Q2: Is there a way to get the URL of the stream from one of these "players" and play it on Totem or Rythmbox?

Jan 28, 2010My audio is working on my recent koala install. System wav files play without a problem.
However, when I open a terminal to play my own wav files I get an error. (I encountered this problem merely by trying to setup an incoming mail notification with CheckGmail....)
The command: aplay /home/saskms/Music/test.wav
The error: aplay: test_wavefile:807: can't play WAVE-file format 0x0002 which is not PCM or FLOAT encoded
I think I have installed all the necessary gstreamer options. I am guessing that maybe I just need to re-rip the WAV file into a different format. I also tried doing searches on the error, but yielded no results.
