I installed the adobe plugin, and my browser crashes. I uninstalled it, and installed the one in the apt repository (mozilla-plugin-gnash) and it shows up in my about: plugins in iceweasel, but flash just doesn't play.
View 4 RepliesI was wondering if you could help me out with this Flash problem: sometimes, Flash elements don't play in my browser window - there's just a big white area where my Flash should be. I have to close and re-open Firefox. This especially happens when I activate the "Flashblock" plugin, a very useful tool that blocks all Flash unless you click on it and choose to play it. Whenever I have that enabled, most of the time, clicking on the "play" button produces the white area where the Flash object should be. It's Karmic 64 and Firefox 3.5, Shockwave Flash 10.0.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using 'Adobe Flash plug-in 10.3.183.4ubuntu0.11.04.1', installed from the package repos on kubuntu, and since the last update, it has broken all flash functionality in both rekonq and firefox.I have tried removing and reinstalling the package multiple times, both with and without the browsers open. Can anyone suggest a way to restoring functionality?
View 7 Replies View Relatedrunning kubuntu 9.10 karmic koala, and my sound settings -at first glance- seem to be in order... a strange thing is occurring, is my machine haunted? my sound works when:
a. the machine boots up
b. files are played in dragon player
c. the machine shuts down
my sound does not work when:
1. i try to play streaming flash videos online (e.g. videos videos show the image but no sound will play)
2. the same goes for vlc media player: images yes, sound no.
3. i use skype *edit: additional problem*
i made no changes, that i know of, to my machine before this started happening. one day everything was working fine and i turned off my machine to go to sleep. the next day, i turn on my machine, and surprise, the sound doesn't work in some instances.
i installed ubuntu 10.04 on my desktop pc. I previously used 8.10 without any problems. Now I have a problem with amarok. I can't play any music at all. i tried to find what the problem was but i don't seem to succeed so far.

As suggested in another thread, I tried installing Flash-Aid for Firefox and reinstalled Flash with this extension, but no luck. I also tried purging and reinstalling Opera:
sudo apt-get purge opera
sudo apt-get install opera
No luck.
It seems to be able to play flash videos acquired from from video.google.com (ive only tried one) but NONE from ...... On other distros it will play ALL flash video from ANY source from the tmp directory perfectly fine.

I created a vmware workstation Debian 7 virtual machine from a debian-7.7.0-amd64-CD-1.iso.
I can play flash video streams from within the browser, i.e. YouTube plays fine. However, if I download a YouTube video, then try to play the flv file, it will not play from a media player.
I either get an "error cannot decode" or just a green screen during playback when using Totem or VLC. I've tried installing about every package out there, yet flv files will not play in any media players.
I also tried running the VM with and without 3d support. It won't play flv's either way.
Is this an issue between a vmware vm and Debian 7? Any success story playing flv files from within a Debian vmware virtual machine?
After using testing (now Wheezy) for almost a year and breaking my machine (latest nvidia broken packages), I went back to vanilla Squeeze (after updates, now at 6.02).Nothing from outside the stable repos; not even the nvidia driver (kept it at default and nouveau)Repo "deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org stable main non-free" enabled.It seems flash is not working with iceweasel; I either have a message which says "Cannot play media: you do not have the correct version of the flash player. I am using Suse 11.4, with the Gnome desktop. I have downloaded the VLC player, but cannot work out how to make it play CDs in the CD drive. Right clicking on the Audio Disc icon that appears on the desktop whenever I load a disc doesn't give me an option to Play using VLC. Is there a way to make VLC the default player for CDs?
View 9 Replies View Relatedi just reported a bug to launchpad (#511562. i'm not sure if this bug is in flashplugin-installer or pulseaudio.when i use firefox or chrome for watching a flash video from videos for example, all works good. i then transfer the sound to a remote sink using sound preferences > output > internal audio analog stereo on myuser@otherhost. after this is done, the flash video halts. this is also true if i restart firefox and start a new video, already having transferred the sound. sometimes you can see the video taking huge skips forward. for example, on a 3 minute music video, i see 3-4 different frames from different places in the video. the sound is ok though! 100% reproducible and if i transfer the sound back to local speakers the video resumes and plays perfectly.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have worked with it for some weeks when I installed it over the summer on my PowerPC. I am now trying to decide whether Debian (vs. Ubuntu) is the right OS for my brand new Toshiba Intel Core i3 with 3 GB of RAM.
1. Flash -- it is true that Debian doesn't support flash on the web? It certianly did not support flash on my PowerPC. I would appreciate if someone can give me a straight answer on this.
2. Languages -- can I simultaneously work with two or three different languages on Debian? I frequently have to type in several languages (e.g., English, French, Persian, Turkish). I am writing a dissertation, so this is very important to me.
3. Finally where can I read a little about comparison between Debian and Ubuntu? My understanding is that Debian is faster than Ubuntu and generally better. Ubuntu is after all based on Debian which means that it's secondary in stability, features, speed, etc. to Debian. Is this generalization correct? Or am I completely off the wall?
Flash is no longer working in Mozilla Firefox after the most recent flash plugin update. I couldn't find any information on it.

Basically the problem is, I can't play store bought DVDs, but I can play my copies of them.
When using MDPlayer that I added to Ubuntu, I can play the copies of my store bought DVDs, but not the originals. However, when using Ubuntu 9.10's movie player, it wont do anything and I'll have to do a force quit to close it.
I learned that this may because there is a repository of packages that cannot be included into the Ubuntu distribution, as I'm sure you already knew.

Running the Terminal, I added the bash command that adds Medibuntu's repositiry to Ubuntu. It also adds Medibuntu's GPG key to the keyring.
(The sudo wget - etc etc etc --quiet update)
Then I jumped down to the... "This command should be run in the Terminal, after adding the repository:" ...And did that. (sudo sed -e 's/ etc etc etc /medibuntu.list)
I have one desktop and two laptops. It is strange to find that none of the three systems play VCD, when I use Totem, Totem-xine, Gxine or VLC media player, even with the codecs updated. Worse, each of the three DVD players then act in a loop, seeking the LG DVD-RAM drive endlessly. But the drives otherwise work very well and I also write DVDs and CDs often.I have tested the VCDs in Windows machines with VLC media player, and the VCDs work wonderfully. This is kind of strange. So I thought may be I should report this.

For some reason I can't get it to play in either Totem or mplayer, even though I've been able to play other Matroska files fine in both of them. Totem does nothing but display a black window. gmplayer displays a blue screen and there's a silouette where the control buttons are supposed to be. Also it takes about 20 seconds to close it. When I try to get the properties on it, it says "Creating properties window. You can cancel this operation by clicking cancel." and it won't show the properties no matter how long I wait.When I try to run it in mplayer from the command line, it says a bunch of these:

I have the latest version of Debian Lenny AMD64 installed on my brother's computer. I am trying to get Adobe versions of flash to install on his computer. It seems no matter what I do I get the freeware version installed which unfortunately is not up to the task. If I try to remove the freeware version the package manager tells me it needs to remove the gnome as well. How can I keep the gnome and at the same time get Adobe version to install. Yes I have a multimedia repository installed and I tried reinstalling Mozilla Adobe package with no success.
Searching forums did not result in any helpful ideas.Things I have already found out from reading this forum.-I have to purge all freeware version of the Adobe flash plug-in. I can't seem to find a way to do this without removing the gnome desktop. It seems that the plug-in is a dependency for the gnome desktop environment. Yes I want to continue to use the gnome desktop environment. I have to install flashplayer-mozilla package from the Debian multimedia nonfree repository. That I can successfully do, and have done so without success. It installs successfully, but it still shows version 9 of the plug-in. I believe version 9 is the free version. What I would like to use the free version, it's just not compatible with the websites I go to.
I can't get Gnome's Web(browser) (ver 3.4.2) working with flash. I see only a kind of blue box, when I click on it, audio playback starts but not video. I tried this on two machines, one with Intel graphics, second with radeon.

I often install a desktop environment on a headless machine, disable *dm, and use vnc4server to create a desktop session if I want to use a GUI. When I try to do the same on Jessie, I run into problems.
Using Gnome, all I get is the generic "Oops something went wrong" error. Looking at .xsession-errors, there are some errors that hint at the problem.

The same thing seems to happen with Cinnamon. Since I doubt a fix for the above issue will make it into Jessie, I tried XFCE. However, that doesn't work correctly either. When running XFCE via VNC something is misreporting the version of xrandr as 1.1 instead of 1.4. Since xfsettingsd appears to want version 1.2+, many things are broken.
This post on the Ubuntu forums suggests the issue might be fixed in xfsettingsd version 4.11: [URL] .....
Is there a better way of getting a remote desktop in Jessie that I'm overlooking?
I have installed VirtualBox and since then resuming from hibernation doesn't work again (my previous thread: [URL] ....). My question is: Can VirtualBox kernel modules (vboxpci, vboxnetadp, vboxnetflt, vboxdrv) break hibernation? If yes, what to do? Maybe unload them before hibernation, blacklist when resuming and load after resume? And how to do that with systemd? URL....

Just as the title says: I installed iceweasel 6 in debian squeeze (via mozilla.debian.net) and while errors and requests are captured in the web console, I simply cannot use it to evaluate arbitrary javascript I type in it.
Does anyone have this problem as well? It's been like this since v5 as well. I already tried purging and reinstalling, as well as running with another profile.
I've tried installing both ibus-anthy and ibus-mozc in Jessie but I still cannot input Japanese.
By contrast, In Wheezy, when using anthy for example, I can see ibus preferences icon where I can configure ibus and anthy. This doesn't show up in Jessie.
I recently install a Debian 8.0 Jessie on a Laptop Dell latitude E6540 with gnome 3.14+3. But the problem is that it doesn't recongnize my multimedia buttons, I tried some methods but I didn't get results.

When I reassinged the keys on Settings>Keyboard>Shortcuts to F7, F8 and F9 it works, but when use the keys volume up, down and mute It doesn't show anything.
The same happens with Fn + Brightness keys, in this case it worked the first time but then stop to work I don't know why..
I am having trouble getting evolution to work properly with my imap server. It won't show any messages. Icedove works fine, though. I'd rather use evolution because of the calendar. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. The IMAP server is hosted by network solutions. I have screenshots of both clients. I've blacked out a few things for privacy.

I tried several different files, which works perfectly in windows and ubuntu.
I installed windows binary codecs for mplayer to /usr/lib/codec/
I just got a new Dell monitor (U2715H), and even with beta Nvidia driver (355.06) on Debian testing x86_64, it doesn't detect highest resolution (2560x1440) when connected over HDMI to Nvidia Geforce GT 620. I have an HDMI 2.0 compliant cable, and according to Dell reps, the monitor should support 2560x1440 over HDMI.
Some suggested using xrandr to set the video mode explicitly. I tried doing it, and first got a EDID file with nvidia-settings, and run edid-decode. Where is what I got there:

not sure exactly when this broke, but for some reason I'm not able to use CTRL-ALT-F1 anymore to fall back to the first virtual console.I can kill X with CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE just fine, but I'd like to be able to get a normal shell to kill things when I've messed too much with graphical stuff.
