View 3 RepliesI posted this as a comment and got no responses so I thought I'd add a new thread. Ubuntu (11.04 loving it so far new Ubuntu user)won't let me copy my plugin folder to /usr/lib/rhythmbox/plugins. I get an error window that says "Error while moving 'albumartsearch'.
There was an error moving the file into /usr/lib/rhythbox/plugins." and then there's a 'Show more details' tab that says "Error moving file: Permission denied". Pleaseeee help I'd really like to add album art to my music library as well as some other plugins for Rhythmbox!
I am having a real issue with getting Rhythmbox plugins to work. I have tried several of them and I cannot get any of them to work. I have them in the ~/.gnome2/rhythmbox/plugins directory and I have restarted rhythmbox and tried to open it from the console. I get no errors or any other indication that there are any problems. Is there something I am missing?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI use shoutcast to select streaming audio stations to play, depending on mood,whim, whatever.when I click on 'tune in' next to the audio station, rhythmbox pops up....and that's that. I would expect it to just start playing the station.If I select 'Radio' in rhythmbox's upper left panel, and -then- click 'tune in' on the shoutcast page next to the station I want, there's an entry made in the playist at that time, but then there's an error popup says: Couldn't Start Playback You do not have a decoder installed to handle this file. You might need to install the necessary plugins. Which is surprising. It's a shoutcast stream. It should just play. But anyway, I guess something didn't get installed in the default install.

I am unable to get into another desktop by pressing control-alt-F1, F2 etc. I am not sure how to diagnose this problem. The window loads, and then the system just crashes. From previous posts, others were also obtaining segmentation faults, others had success with uninstalling the rhythmbox-ubuntuone-music-store package. I do not have this installed on my system. My problem is related with the plugins package.If I run rhythmbox from the command line in sudo mode it starts without crashing but with a warning:Rhythmbox-WARNING **: Unable to grab media player keys: Could not get owner of name 'org.gnome.SettingsDaemon': no such name But when I select one of the plugin sources it then terminates and closes down

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have some seemingly interrelated issues with music CDs that I can't find threads about. Music CDs don't mount, they just spin for a bit then sit there. While a music CD is in the tray, sound juicer (Audio CD extractor) dies with a Segmentation fault. Rhythmbox dies too with this fault:

This only happens while a music CD is in the tray. All other times, the programs run fine.
I just got a Samsung U5, and although I could drag and drop, it's not as good as syncing. I've tried using both rhythmbox and banshee to sync my music from a playlist. It only happens when I set it to MTP, that both programs tend to crash. If I set it to MCS none of them will even detect the device, but will both work fine as music players. So far, rhythmbox just freezes and won't let me do anything with the device. Banshee only syncs half of the music files and comes up with this error.

I've used ubuntu n have quite good experience in installing softwares and codecs for Totem n amarock. Its very easy on ubuntu cuz system searches online and finds plugins itself.
Now im using CentOS n i updated the system but still i dont see many softwares on repositories unlike in ubuntu moreover i dont know how to install totem codecs and others. I can't even get terminal commands for getting codecs online.
Has anyone tried installing netbeans plugins using a bash script?
I end up installing a fair number of plugins into the base IDE that is in the repositories. I would like to script the setup if I can, so it just opens up with everything I need. The 'ruby and rails' plugin is the one at the top of my list.
Installing simple plugins is pretty easy: wget, unzip and drop the files in the right directories. For 'ruby and rails' there are LOTS of files that get installed and dependencies to satisfy as well, so wget is probably not the most efficient way to get everything that is needed.
I decided not to use Photoshop in wine on my computer but to only use GIMP because I heard there is so many free plugins on the internet that makes it function almost exactly as Photoshop.I install plugins but then GIMP wont open at all.I did a complete fresh install of 10.04 because I was having this GIMP problem after installing gimpshop and installing Photoshop 7, I figured it was the Photoshop that caused the problem
So now with a complete fresh install GIMP still wont work with any plugins installed.is there something i need before I can add any plugins or whats going on?
ive downloaded both the cairo-dock and the plugin tar.bz2 pakages. ive had no problem installing the dock, but when i tried the plugins i wouldnt work.

Earlier, I had been checking out the streaming internet radio on my roommates Mint laptop using Rhythmbox, and found it to be pretty cool. Usually, if I stream any music, it's just from the CBC (like the U.S.'s NPR), so I just stream it directly from them, but all the stations on rhythmbox (there's a whack of them) got me interested. At the start of Pink Cadillac, I proposed myself a challenge: Could I manage to get rhythmbox (a GNOME application) to work on my Slack64 -current box, before the movie ended? There's probably (maybe?) a similar app that installs and works more natively on Slack, but that's not the point; I wanted to try installing rhythmbox in < 2 hrs. Well, I got it installed finally, *just* at the end of the movie credits, but it won't play! And sometimes it segfaults. So, I wonder if anyone has any tips about what I might be missing or whatever.

Seems even on systems with some sort of 'natural' support for installing this thing, a lot of people are getting the same or very similar errors, but I haven't found a solution (obviously - I wouldn't be posting otherwise ) but people, myself included, have discovered that there doesn't seem to be a 100% accurate list of *required* dependencies for rhythmbox; it needs stuff that it doesn't tell you it needs.
EDIT: Disclaimer (just to cut the 'dependency-hell' arguments off at the pass, so to speak): This is just a fun experiment for me. I don't suggest Slackware newbies start trying to install <xyz Gnome application> into their Slackware boxes unless you want to spend HOURS fixing stuff like this, and you want to have fun doing it, and have it maybe bork your box up. And if you *do* decide to try it anyways, don't blame Slackware for giving you dependency hell. Gnome doesn't come with Slackware (here's the ChangeLog). I like Slackware exactly the way it is - it comes with more than enough apps to satisfy most people, all nicely working out of the box, so installing stuff like this is not really necessary - but I'm choosing to do this one anyway, and am not deterred by this "mess" of stuff.If this dependency stuff isn't your 'cup of tea', an 'automatically-dependency-resolving' distro might be better for you; I prefer to mess my machine up on my own, rather than let my package manager do it for me.
I am trying to use Xen tools to run multiple operating systems on my machine. The problem is that when I try to install Windows (32) XP (using "hvm" build) it crashes ! It crashes after it starts copying some files (immediately after formatting) at 18%/20%). I can't see the cause of this such a crash, I know it's a crash because I told it to restart on case.
