When I enter certain sites that only support windows mp plugins, I cannot view the content in those sites! Is there a way to enable these plugins in ubuntu 10.10? Another problem I have is when trying to play videos on ....., everything works fine until I click on the full screen button... then the sound goes on but the picture freezes! My computer is a laptop Packard bell EasyNote TH.

The video unfreezes when I move the mouse, the video then fastforwards to the actual replay position. Video card is nvidia geforce fx5200 on proprietary driver, I have the desktop effects enabled. View 9 Replies View RelatedMy system just freezes randomly. It happens about once a day, which is really often imho. It usually happens when I'm watching a video in fullscreen and it suddenly stops. I can't alt-tab or escape out of fullscreen, my mouse doesn't work and the keyboard is unresponsive. I'm forced to restart by pressing my computer's power button. This happens in both vlc and kmplayer and it also happened a few times when i was not watching a video. I was just on firefox, browsing the internet.
View 3 Replies View RelatedVLC which didn't exist before (possibly due to some updates) When viewing a video file (say an .avi file so it has nothing to do with flash)in maximized windows or full screen, playback becomes very slow and sometimes freezes momentarily (with the screen turning grey) On the other hand, if I open the same file in a small screen and then strech it out to the size of a maximized windows everything is fine. I don't notice anything extraordinary in terms of cpu or memory usage (from running top in the terminal) when this happens.
This problem only happens with VLC, Banshee has no problem playing these same files in full screen. I use Compiz, disabling Compiz stops VLC from freezing but it still seems a bit sluggish in full screen. I used to be able to play videos with VLC in full screen AND with Compiz on.
I am running Ubuntu 10.04. VLC is working fine in 10.10 on the same machine.
I have Debian 6 installed. Is there a way for the web browsers (Iceweasel and Chromium) to recognize the multimedia plugins (gstreamer0.10) that were installed? about:plugins in the browser, references Gnash as the only plugin available.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm using ubuntu 11.04 with Unity 2d as my hardware is too old to run the original one. I was previously using Lubuntu but after a slight RAM upgrade decided to use Ubuntu. Now I can't watch full screen video's online which is not the problem as it's always been like this with every distro I've used but now I can't even watch full screen videos in VLC, totem or any other media player for that matter, it'll either lag or completely freeze my system and this worked in Lubuntu fine

Sound is fine in flash video, but gets garbled in fullscreen.
Another problem I'm having is that when I turn the volume past 60% using the sound applet on the panel, it gets very distorted. If I open sound preferences, I notice it is in the "amplified" zone at this point, so I have to keep it in the "unamplified" zone, but then it's not loud enough.

i've got a mythbuntu 10.10 box connected to my tv; sometimes i want to use it to watch internet tv. owever, when i try to resize videos to full-screen, sometimes black bars intermittently flash across the entire screen. this does not happen when the video is in a window or on the web page, only when going into full-screen mode. unfortunately, on some of these sites, even the "large" in-page video selection is still too small to be comfortably watched from the couch.
i'd suspect it's something with flash, but a similar thing happens when i'm using skype inside a windows xp on vmware. black bars flashing across when in "full-screen" but just fine when zoomed up inside a window. and i don't think vmware video output is flash-based. so it may be something else entirely.
also, this doesn't happen on all internet video - i've only had it happen on video from nbc.com and nfl.com (i haven't really had the opportunity or reason to try many other sites yet), and it was only a little noticeable from the nfl.com but nearly unwatchable from nbc. yet if i go to videos, i have no trouble getting any of their videos running full-screen.
i have an integrated geforce 8200 graphics, and i'm running the nvidia proprietary drivers version 256. i'm not running 260 since its vdpau capability is questionable, and i need that for mythtv. i have a 64-bit system.
does anyone have any ideas regarding this? the fact that i'm getting consistently good results from videos yet consistently bad ones from the tv networks makes me wonder if it's something i'm even going to be able to fix.
As the title implies I can't use the fullscreen feature in a flash video because all the screen turns white &, wherever the pointer was, get noticed as a faint shadow. I can increase the screen only if using the keyboard shortcut <Ctl++> keys combination.Have Shockwave Flash 10.1.r82 add-on. Firefox version is 3.6.8. Ubuntu = 10.0.4 LTS.

Problem is very similar to: Problems playing mkv HD films in opensuse but not windows but with enough differences that I start a new thread:
* playback in VLC does not work -- there is only sound
* playback in SMplayer works, however -- when I scroll forward, the video freezes and sound continues, to unfreeze video I have scroll a tiny bit backward
I tried changing the video ouput driver (in SMplayer) from xv to xv/noveu-nvidia, it didn't help. Please note, that I use the same settings (initially) as before in OS11.1.
Whenever I'm playing a video in Totem, if I use the navigation bar thing to go to a different time in the video, the video output freezes. Audio continues, but video stops. If I pause the video first, then use the navigation thing, then click play again, it works fine. Same happens for music; the visualizer freezes if I drag the navigation thing.
Edit: If I put it on repeat, when the video or music repeats the video output freezes also.
I decided to take the plunge and I totally replaced windows XP Pro w/ Karmic. I'm working on getting theatre mode set up as well as syncing my iphone.
for this problem I've set up dual desktop mode(both with the guide I found for Nvidia, and with ATI Catalyst control center) through the guide, the computer would freeze randomly and with CCC it seems to freeze when I start a video on the TV display.

UPDATE: By changing the screen effects to none the computer doesn't freeze anymore
i've noticed a problem this morning when watching bbc flash videos on firefox (3.6). whilst the video is playing, firefox is fine and new tabs can be opened. but once you close the tab or window where the video was, firefox freezes and has to force quit. other flash video sites like videos, cnn, sky news, guardian and flash games seem okay and firefox doesn't freeze. bbc videos seem okay on firefox on winxp too. the bbc problem occurs on news video and on iplayer vids.

When I play some video file, like some series (.avi), my system often freezes, the image become static and the sound starts looping. Ctr+Alt+Del does nothing and the only way to shut the computer down and restart the system is by holding the power button down for a long time. Sites with flash video content (....., vimeo and the BBC's iplayer site) however don't work as expected: the video track stops while the sound carries on. Pressing the right mouse button in the video player screen makes the video continue immediately, but this is not the expected behaviour! I have also tried with Windows, and it works fine, so it is not a network problem. Audio seems to work fine. And now I manage to use Yum and it is not working, I cant find out what is happening but yum loads the plugins and then freezes and is no reaction to ctrl-c or something to stop it so I am have to kill it dna finally got no result from any update processes. Also I manage to clean cache or even to run yum. I checked the logs and it writes nothing about this ,neither an error or something to make me understand whats happening. My concern is streaming online videos through websites such as BBC iplayer, sky news, ....., NDTV news channel, etc. Videos are streaming perfectly fine as long as they are not running on full screen but if I try to run them on full screen video freezes (after a few minutes, say 5). Interestingly, sound does not stop. I can still hear the latest news updates but the video does not correspond. Same videos are running fine whether full screen or not in vista.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been goign nuts trying to find the source of this niggling problem I've had since upgrading to Maverick. Whenever I'm watching anything I will get these short freezes of about half a second before he file continues playing. It will happen on average 3-4 times per hour on a video file.
For MP3 playback it's even worse, I'll get a stutter every couple of minutes, sometimes several in the same song. I reformatted completely and installed Maverick from scratch. For about a day I thought I had it sorted but then it started happening again.
I checked dmesg and there are a number of worrying lines like this:

The thing is that this problem occurs on all three of my hard drives (2 SATA, one IDE) so it's extremely unlikely all three have become damaged on the day I updated. Could this be a kernel problem of some sort? On an unrelated note all but one of my USB ports fails to recognise any portable music players.
Flash player was working all right. Still works allright but when go to full screen the picture is still, not moving, but the sound keeps on going. It *may* have something to do with upgrading to Ubuntu 10.10.
