View 6 Replies View RelatedFrom the start ive been using ubuntu .and now im using lucid 10.04, what I see when I turn on update the multiverse and universe and the others, what I found is, Error. Here are the error from my terminal . It just annoys me, for now, I don't have any problem with any of it yet, and I don't want to have one.

I'm installing Sound Juicer to rip CDs. The notes say it wants "gstreamer0.10-plugins-really-bad (not available in Debian) to encode to AAC." Now I don't know as I'll want to encode to AAC (I primarily plan to rip to .wav for burning compilation CDs), but I figure I might as well grab it, for completeness . I noticed, on Google'ing for info on that package, comments that seem to indicate its functionality has been replaced by gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad. So, do I still "need" gstreamer0.10-plugins-really-bad?
View 6 Replies View RelatedUp until recently I have had no problem playing all kinds of video in Ubuntu. I recently upgraded to Lucid and I can't remember if I was able to play videos after that, but yesterday I found that I am unable to play flv or MP4 videos in either totem or vlc. Converting them to ogv using ffmpeg allows them to play just fine, and I can edit the flv and mp4 in Avidemux, so there is nothing wrong with the files themselves. Not sure what I've done, can't seem to find a bug in launchpad for this, so I am assuming it is a problem with my setup somehow.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm brand new to debian and quite new to unix based systems in general.
I just switched to debian from ubuntu in search of something different and I want to find a system that works for me before I settle down.
I DO NOT HAVE A SECONDARY OS
just two problems I have with debian:
No sound
Error message: No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found.
When I try to open sound from the speaker icon at top right.
I think it's a driver issue but Its not as easy as ubuntu was lspci:
My trackpad also does not work so I have to open documents manually if I don't bring my mouse to class.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 x64. And some Wine games (e.g. Morrowind) require 32 bit gstreamer plugins to enable sound. How can I install 32 gstreamer plugins on my 64 bit Ubuntu?
On Fedora this is easy, you just need to explicitly provide the architecture:
Code:
yum install gstreamer-plugin-good.i686
I can't figure out how to do this in Ubuntu
I was having trouble getting my 8.10 box to restart... it appeared hung on a line talking about alsa (I don't recall what it said). I started back up and the volume icon indicated it was muted. I unmuted and, lo and behold, I have no sound. So, I tried to follow the alsa upgrade instructions at [URL].
When I tried to run the second script:
Code:
sudo sh ./alsa_2.sh
I got this:
cp: target `/lib/modules/2.6.2*/ubuntu/media/snd-hda-intel/snd-hda-intel.ko' is not a directory
cp: cannot stat `/usr/src/alsa/alsa-driver*/modules/*': No such file or directory
cp: omitting directory `/lib/modules/2.6.24-16-generic/kernel/sound/'
cp: omitting directory `/lib/modules/2.6.27-14-generic/kernel/sound/'
cp: omitting directory `/lib/modules/2.6.27-15-generic/kernel/sound/'
And now my volume indicates it's muted again, and if I try to adjust it I get this error:
The volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to control. This means either that you don't have the right GStreamer plugins installed, or that you don't have a sound card configured. You can remove the volume control from the panel by right-clicking the speaker icon on the panel and selecting "Remove From Panel" from the menu.
This file (and a couple others) are missing from packman ATM.I've seen them (need version 0.10.30 or greater) at multimedia:/libs.My doubt is, does these gstreamer packages housed at download.opensuse.org are limited due to DCMA/patent issues, like OOTB k3b/libxine are
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just two days ago updated lenny, then unplugged my monitor which raised my video card out of my open system board. This made my debian com freeze and i had to restart. The sound icon looks like its muted or has an X next to it. It says 'No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found.' I tried looking through forums but havent found any solutions yet. I think alsa is installed. I ran alsaconf. It said no sound cards were loaded when unloading them. Then the following cards are found on your system:
hda-intel ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)
hda-intel ATI Technologies Inc Radeon HD 3870 Audio device
legacy Probe legacy ISA (non-PnP) chips
I tried the first two, it says OK, sound driver is configured ALSA CONFIGURATOR will prepare the card for playing now. I'll run alsasound init script, then use amixer.
I then installed libesd-alsa0, replacing libesd0 or something. If I do # alsamixer, then it says alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory
Then i tried this
# cat /proc/asound/cards
cat: /proc/asound/cards: No such file or directory
then # cat /proc/asound/modules
cat: /proc/asound/modules: No such file or directory

Did I break the onboard sound card when pulling out the video cord? I was pretty gentle, I just made it slide out i think. I've also restarted a bunch of times. It seems like alsaconf showed some sound cards. Maybe some driver is not installed, but I think I did install a newer gstreamer or part of it.
I want to install "gst-plugin-base" but i get this error: "this version of gst-plugin-base needs glib 2.20 but installed version of glib is 2.18". I installed glib 2.20 and now I'm trying to install gst-plugin-base but i get that error again.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThe gstreamer-0.10 good plugins in CentOS 5.4 seems to be missing souphttpsrc. I looked online and can only seem to find references to it being in the bad plugins, yet the bad plugins documentation says it was moved to the good plugins. My experience downloading rpms is that the dependencies to build anything for gstreamer require I also download about 20 other rpms.I am reluctant to download/install rpms for a different distro.Has anyone successfully installed newer good plugins (particularly, souphttpsrc)?

There's lots of programs I want to install via the Ubuntu software center (for example, Glest.) However when i go to install it, it says it's available from the Multiverse source, so I click on ''use this source'' and every time I do that I get this error:

I tried to add the Multiverse source through Synaptic but it says it's already being used. What should I do?

I had been having trouble with Banshee playing podcasts and it turned into a bigger problem. I use VLC so I hadn't noticed, but Totem (and Gstreamer as a whole) can't seem to play h.624 video. All I get is audio, even when I do a command like
gst-launch -v playbin uri=file:///path/to/video.mp4
(Well, now I get nothing, but more on that in a moment).
So I tried reinstalling Gstreamer, and I just tried updating to the Gstreamer Developer PPA. The only change that came from that is that now nothing happens instead of just hearing audio. I've attached the output.
I've gone into gstreamer-properties and tried every configuration. Each time I see the colored stripes and the snowy video corner, but it never seems to make a difference.
When I type gstreamer-properties in to the terminal I get
gstreamer-properties-Message: Skipping unavailable plugin 'artsdsink'
gstreamer-properties-Message: Skipping unavailable plugin 'esdsink'
gstreamer-properties-Message: Skipping unavailable plugin 'sunaudiosink'

I was trying to convert a flac audio to mp3 using soundconverter & its failing with the error:
Quote:
GStreamer error: Gstreamer encountered a general stream error.
I should note that the flac is a rip of an actual Mono Vinyl disc. Am not exactly sure how that was done but I was interested in converting some those files to ogg & mp3. OGG conversion doesn't give any error.
Below is the result when launching soundconverter from the terminal & trying to convert the flac file(s) to mp3 (i just tried ogg to mp3 & the same error occurs):

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed OSSv4 replacing the default ALSA and everything worked just fine with some workarounds... until I upgraded to Lucid Lynx.
Now apps like Totem and Rhythmbox which use the gstreamer framework have no sound. Does anybody know why?
Everything else works, like gnome-sound-recorder, even flash.
I opened gstreamer-properties from the terminal. Following some directions from another thread, I changed the output to "custom" and filled in a box with a bunch of code that I didn't know anything about. I pressed "test" and it didn't work. Out of frustration, I deleted the text I had written in the box and closed gstreamer-properties. Now it won't open back up. When I try to open it from the terminal I get:
gstreamer-properties-Message: Skipping unavailable plugin 'artsdsink'
gstreamer-properties-Message: Skipping unavailable plugin 'esdsink'
Segmentation fault
That's it. It won't open and when I try to open it directly from its source folder, nothing happens at all. How can I open it back up so I can continue to fiddle with it and (hopefully) fix this blue-tint problem.
I don't know what caused this but running guvcview does not show any gui anymore. Using terminal I have the ff message:
Code:

Just installed Clementine audio player, but it won't play mp4s. It says gstreamer is missing a plugin, google search turned up some leads but they didn't lead anywhere. Mp4s work fine in Amarok, and i have already installed the restricted extras package.
