This may come across as a bit of an isolated and complex problem, but I haven't been able to get my iPod Nano 5th Generation to have any sort of compatibility with any iPod management programs (except with using Nautilus I guess). This includes gtkpod, Banshee and Rhythmbox.With Rythmbox, my iPod shows up in the pane, but I cannot interact in anyway except ejecting it. There aren't any msgbox errors.Banshee cannot read the iTunes database or something and insists that I rebuild the database on the ipod so I can use it with banshee. I did and gained full access to Banshee's iPod management with all the features it carries. I moved my music library on to the ipod but the thing states that I have zero songs whilst banshee states otherwise.
iTunes on my Windows PC will show that I have x number of GB of "other" information after using Banshee to move music. It seems that it is transferring data sufficiently but is not recognising it as "audio" gtkpod wont let me manage the iPod before or after Banshee's tampering.
I am trying to get music which was originally on iTunes into banshee, such that I can transfer "ownership" from a Mac onto Ubuntu, and still sync with my iPhone 3GS. Every piece of this music came from CDs which I still own and have collected since CDs were something most people hadn't heard of, but I seriously do not want to sit there and scan in hundreds of CDs again when I already have them in digital form.
I've tried several things, including dragging and dropping from a USB stick. So I've been getting duplicates, and in the process I deleted an album in order to start over. Now I can't get that album back no matter what. It's like it's black listed or something. I can try to load it from the USB stick, I can copy the containing folder from the USB stick to some place on my hard drive, anything. It knows I deleted it once upon a time and it refuses to touch it.
Has anyone gotten DAAP sharing to work between Itunes 9 and Banshee? I have a Windows Vista, Mac OS X, and Fedora 12 box setup on my network. Both Mac and Visa have itunes 9 running on them, and when opening Banshee the Itunes Library shows under shared music but when I select it; I get the below error:
Unable to connect to music share
* The provided login credentials are invalid (I removed the share password, same issue) *The login process was canceled *Too many users are connected (not the case) * The music is hosted by itunes 7 (hosted by itunes 9)
Is the Banshee DAAP plugin supported with Itunes 9? Are there any work arounds?
Been trying to get itunes going in unbuntu 11.04. Tried gtkpod and it kept crashing when trying to update database. Looked into itunes thru wine. I think I could load it in wine but all my mp3's are on a linux box - ext4. From what I understand, wine will look to a windows partition for the mp3's. I know windows cannot read ext4. All I need itunes for is to load and delete songs on a shuffle ipod. Don't need itunes store, etc so I don't care if that part works or not. Before I go to the trouble of itunes on wine: Is this assumption correct?
I am trying to use Banshee to sync my 5th generation iPod nano on a Lenovo laptop. When I plug the iPod in, it is recognized just fine by Banshee, however when I click on the iPod icon it tells me that it is unable to read the iPod because it has been used with a version of iTunes that saves a version of the database that Banshee can't recognize.
All of this is fine. I click on rebuild iPod database since I have no intention of using iTunes in the future with this iPod, and I don't mind losing the playlists or songs on the iPod (I have them all on the computer). The database rebuilds normally from all appearances, and after a short time I am able to read all songs on the iPod and transfer things back and forth.
The frustration comes into play with the fact that next time I load up the iPod on Banshee, it asks for the exact same process. It is unable to read the iPod, needs to rewrite the database, etc..
Is there some way to permanently alter the database that I'm missing, or is this an issue with 5th generation compatibility?
I'm experiencing a problem running Banshee 2.0 on my Ubuntu 11.04 system. Basically, I'm getting the following fatal error, the code of which is quoted hereunder. Of note is that uninstalling and reinstalling Banshee (through Ubuntu Software Centre) doesn't fix this problem. Incidentally or not, I also seem to have a problem with my other (and preferred) media player, Amarok. This is the error code:

This situation after a mains power failure took server down.Log oonto server with root, go to Admin > users and get this message:" The user database cannot be read. This problem is most likely caused by mismatch between /etx/password and /etc/shadow or /etc/group and /etc/gshadow. The program will exit now."
I'm looking for the best iTunes alternative that has almost these features:
- being able to edit the track's name/album (songs in the iPod) - adjusting volume of tracks
I'm currently using Rhythmbox. I have tried Exaile and Amarok just doesn't work for me. I can't recall what made me turn away from Banshee, too. I'm not really into Wine so installing iTunes itself is not viable.
I had my server going pretty good. Two sites being hosted. Wilmingtoncoc and Mikealrhughes. Last night we had Thunderstorms and Tornadoes come through. While I was out Tornado chasing. We lost power here for an instant and back on. When I came in the server was off. So I booted it back up. The mikealrhughes site is still working good. The Wilmingtoncoc site is giving me a Database read error, it is a WordPress site. Also I can't log into the Server using SSH. Where do I start to repair the problem? Do I reinstall SSH if so what is the command I use? Then how do I solve the WordPRess Database problem? Also when I try and issue a command from the Server with sudo in front of it I get an error message that says - sudo: must be setuid root - whatever that means. I couldn't find that in any of the books I have.
We have a Dell PE6600 with a QLA2460 FC HBA in it. Server is running RedHat AS 4.7 (kernel 2.6.9-78), FC driver used is the file qlafc-linux-8.02.23-3-install.tar downloaded from the QLogic website. On this server is an Oracle database running (11.1.0.6). Files for the Oracle database are located in mountpoint /u02. The SAN is an iQStor 2880. Since several weeks we suddenly have problems with the Oracle database after a reboot of the server. After a reboot the mountpoint /u02 is readable and writable (tested by creating, opening and removing files).
However, when we try to start the database we get an error which give you the idea that the database is corrupt. The Oracle error is quite a general error. After doing a lot of testing we found out that if we unmount /u02 and mount it again (using mount -a so it reads the /etc/fstab), the database can be started after all. So the database is not corrupt but for some weird reason we have to remount /u02 first before the Oracle database can use it. We don't know if it's a linux issue, fibre issue, san issue or an oracle issue.

I would like to make a script which reads a POP3 mailbox on another server and saves the items in the mailbox to a MySQL database. Is this possible? I have to make this script to create monitoringen scripts which has to use the messages in the mailbox.
I just got a new iphone (yay me) but later realised that as I have Ubuntu, it is very difficult to get itunes installed on it.
Having said that, I've got Wine installed and attempted to download itunes 7.something and even though the whole process worked, it appears that when I try to access itunes the whole screen goes black and then if I scroll across the screen with my mouse it lights up various bits of what's behind the black screen and then after a while it tells me that it cannot access itunes at all...
So I thought, perhaps I should uninstall itunes, but in doing that it still appeared in my wine folder, so I uninstalled wine, which still appeared in my Applications list, so I edited my applications list and then tried to re-install wine from scratch (I know I sound dumb already - but I was desperate ok!!!). So now wine is installed on my computer somewhere but it now doesn't show up in my Applications list at all and I can't seem to get it back on there - any suggestions there would also help...
But my main objective is to try and uninstall itunes properly (maybe from the terminal window - but I don't know how to even do that) and attempt to re-install it to see if it works again.
I need to do this in order to sync my iphone. Cannot seem to do it with Amarok as I don't have Installer.Apps on my iphone, and cannot get THAT without syncing it with itunes to begin with....
Unless your distro has taken care of it Centos 5.5, you'll need to create a user with a password and read/write privileges for program database. You can do this using the MySQL command line client if you are familiar with it. Well I am not familiar with it, so I wam wondering how to do it. As well when I run
mysql - p program </usr/share/program/mysql.sql>
It asks for a password. how do i find out this password.
I'm running RHEL 5. When using the GUI System>Administration>Users and Groups, I get the error: The user database cannot be read. This problem is most likely caused by a mismatch between /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow or /etc/group and /etc/gshadow. The program will exit now.
Some research showed that I need to use vipw and vigr respectively to find an inconsistency between these two sets, which I did - to make it easy I copied each from [vipw | vigr] to an excel file and did =exact(%1, %2). There are no inconsistencies.
am using zabbix open source solution for systems monitoring. I am facing a problem and discussed it on zabbix forum. my post was as "My zabbix server is behaving abnormally, approximately daily from 9 to 12, the server stop accumulating logs. I am writing a simple application that will run as user foo (i.e. Ubuntu user foo).However, the application will connect to my database as (database user foobar). IIRC, database users have nothing to do with Linux system users - but I just need to clarify that.So can an app launched to run as user 'foo', connect to a database as user 'foobar'?
I recently moved into a new place and when I hooked up my webserver, I wasn't able to bring up my page, even from localhost. With some digging, it seems that I can't access the database that housed my posts (wordpress installation). I looked for the datadir in MySQL and that directory shows the wordpress directory that should be holding the database and all the files are still there. 1) why the database no longer shows up 2) how to restore the database from the files?
I've setup a CentOS apache web server, and loaded a site onto it. The site previously was functioning under windows xp (before I "stepped in") and wamp. What I did was copy the site in /var/www, reconfigure the httpd.conf (DocumentRoot /var/www/site, etc). Although when I try to open the webpage I get this error: Database Error: Unable to connect to the database:The MySQL adapter "mysql" is not available.
I have ubuntu on my laptop, i haven't updated it to 10.4 yet but i've only had it on here for a couple weeks. Anyways, i plugged my ipod into the computer and had it working with rhythmbox just fine. However, when i unplugged my ipod, i looked at it and there are no songs, absolutely nothing. When i plug it back in, it shows on rhythmbox that i have all my songs back...but the second i take it out there are no songs. I don't know what this problem is, but basically i just want itunes back :[ I guess theres something about getting a virtual machine to be able to run itunes with? that sounds nice...but is it super complicated?

I am trying to install itunes 9 and 8 both in my ubuntu 9.10 with wine, how ever everytime the installation fails. In itunes 8 it says quicktime is not installed even though under the program it says it is and in itunes 9 after a while it says an error has occured. i need to sync my Iphone with my computer immedately.
A user has brought me a box with a corrupted other os on it (is not bootable). I have booted to a live cd and am copying off the user data, but I'm concerned about thier itunes database. I checked google, but all the backup restore options seem to require a working itunes install.
what files do you all usually back up to transfer itunes info to a new build?
I was using the gnome-shell for a little bit to get accustomed to the coming change in march but I removed it. Shortly after, I decided to update my wine, and get the lastest itunes.exe. I save the exe, allowed executing permissions and ran the install. IT WORKED. I did not allow it to be my default player, and I did not allow autorun. whenever i open it says installation error but I hit ok and I am graced with itunes. I still can sync my iphone with it, I guess it can't recognize it.
occasional crashes when I get click happy but playback works most of the time. some times i have to logout in order to try it again. authorized itunes purchases work thru it.
