View 4 RepliesI managed to patch myself a line in cable and never had problems with earlier versions of ubuntu but with 9.10 I'm having a problem with my soundblaster card and my speakers. I'm trying to record with ardour but I can't hear the click track because my guitar is playing back through my speakers and it's louder than everything else. I never had this problem with earlier ubuntu releases. I've tried finding a way to disable playback through the speakers so I can just turn the volume up on the amp and record and listen back on what I've recorded. There's an option in ardour audio setup do choose what playback I want but no option makes a difference. Where have the mic and line in volumes gone in 9.10? Is there a way of fixing this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm looking into getting an ok microphone for guitar, song and speech, to use with Ubuntu. It's for hobby use, so I don't need the best microphone, just something that is good and will work in Ubuntu. Any recommendations? Should I get an USB one, or just a normal one and use my built in sound card?

when I open Guitar Pro 5 in Wine (v1.1.40), there is no sound. I go into the audio settings to select Timidity, but it's not listed. I do have it installed and I can launch commands such as 'timidity anything.mid' to get it to play midi's, but other than that, it doesn't work. When I run Wine and launch Guitar Pro 5, I get this output:
Code:
ALSA lib conf.c:2700:(snd_config_hooks_call) Cannot open shared library libasound_module_conf_pulse.so
ALSA lib control.c:909:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL hw:0
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:947:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) The dmix plugin supports only playback stream

I'm using audacity to record some songs and it works okay. However I use a Samson Go usb mic to pick up vocals and guitar, and i have a line out straight from my guitar. I can record from either by choosing which sound input I want to use in the Ubuntu sound preferences but I wanted to know if there was anyway I could select both and record both mic and jack simultaneously, is this possible??

View 4 Replies View RelatedI noticed that any CPU load, while using Rakarrack guitar effects, causes the sound to distort and it generates loads of noise. This actually happens when using anything while running Jack audio. If I'm recording, I get tons of noise on the recorded track when I play it back (and live when monitoring) because any CPU usage seems to interfere with the signals. It even does it live in the playthrough (monnitor).
I realized it had to do with CPU usage when I noticed a pattern with the noise correlating to the plasma CPU monitor widget I had running originally. The noise refreshed when the monitor did. Since then, I noticed that anything that puts a slight load on the system will cause this disruption (even moving a window around, or anything in the background processes).
Anyone who is experienced with Jack audio, and possibly rakarrack as well, know the cause to this? I figured loading a low resource WM and eliminating unneeded processes can help but it doesn't since the recording program itself, while recording, is enough to cause this problem. (I know this because playing the guitar in Rakarrack, without recording and just using Jack to run the sound to the speakers, doesn't have constant noise but when recording, there is a constant noise)
I'm converting my parents to ubuntu, so they stop complaining about how slow there windows installation is. I've only come to one problem now. my mom is in love with this Microsoft Picture It program, where she can fix red eyes, chance colors, contrast, tints, ect. Is there a program I can get for ubuntu thats very simple like Picture it? she is extremely computer illiterate, so the easier the better.

I have some 10hrs videos with around 6GB in size. Unfortunately avidemux2_cli runs into problems copying certain parts of it into an output file (frames get blur).
So I tried ffmpeg, but even if I use the sameq switch (same quality as source video), the output video is not a 1:1 copy of the source video. In fact the output video is encoded again (and sound is not as in the source video) and that takes ages against a copy activity by avidemux. Is there any other cli program for simply copying parts out of videos?
I have downloaded all the filesand tried to do a "cmake" but it didnt work and i cant access the program.I do have zynaddsubfx but they sound different. Are they?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI haven't put this in the forums for any of the separate programs, because im having the same problem in all of them, im thinking maybe its a problem elsewhere?I recently got a Canon DSLR. It can save in Raw format, I use this function. Canons Raw format is "Whatever.CR2"F spot viewer and all editor programs see then and 'preview' them with no problem. The images appear to have no problem until you load them into GIMP (with UFRAW) UFRAW standalone, RAWStudio etc.
They load, but only as a small vertical rectangle. Often very purple in colour.I thought maybe it was something wrong with just the way it looked, so I just loaded one, went save as (a jpeg) and then loaded it up, it loaded as a small picture of the same purple-haze bar.Have I done something wrong? I googled it, downloaded UFRaw, even Ubuntu studio, same problem before and after studio installation. All these programs claim to read raw images.Just as an example, In RawStudio:I load up the folder of raw images. I can see all the images clearly with no problems in the preview slider up top. I can scroll through them and see them all no problem. When I click on one, it loads in the editing box as some weird bar (always vertical in orientation) often faintly resembling part of the photo but with seriously acid trip colours. Eg massive purple hazes, green everything etc.
I need a simple program that I can talk into a microphone and the sound will come out the speakers. I want to use my Computer that's hooked up to the store speakers as a PA System.
I am having a difficult time finding a program that will let me do this without having to record and playback. Any help would be wonderful.
I recorded many useful lectures this year. They are now on my HDD an with their 196Kb/s mp3 compression they take almost 30Gigs of space.good GUI Ubuntu 10.4 program for ripping them to smallest size possible (I don't care about quality - they are voice recordings) 8 Kb/s would be nice. But all programs I have tested since offer me only higher qualities.
