I'm converting my parents to ubuntu, so they stop complaining about how slow there windows installation is. I've only come to one problem now. my mom is in love with this Microsoft Picture It program, where she can fix red eyes, chance colors, contrast, tints, ect. Is there a program I can get for ubuntu thats very simple like Picture it? she is extremely computer illiterate, so the easier the better.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a program that would be able to recover some of my pictures. They seem to be corrupt. I know that there are several programs, really quite simple to use, to download from the web such as "Art Plus Digital Photo Recovery" and "PixRecovery". I was wondering if there are similar programs out there that can be installed on Ubuntu? Also, I have to mention it, when I try to open them with the "Image Viewer" an error message pops out which says : Could not load image 'picture.JPG'. Beneath that there is also this : Error interpreting JPEG image file (Improper call to JPEG library in state 200).

I know in Backtrack that I used a program,I don't really remember which one it was,I think KGrubEditor,but that is a KDE app,and I cannot find a place where I could download it anyway. Do you guys know any alternative,or any way I could do this? I know how to edit grub.cfg,but I want some features besides that.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi just fixed my old-ish laptop (pop accident) and instead of putting window on it my dad talked me into trying ubuntu out, gotta say love it, fast and everything but having major problems. i have a lenovo 3000 v200. everything is the same as out of the box except the keyboard, only thing i really needed to replace.
ok problems
1) wireless is not working: i have the switch on (side of the laptop) and bluetooth lights up but wireless doesnt. (Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG). now i just learned about 'rfkill list' it shows that there is a soft block on the wireless. tried " rfkill unblock 0" nothing happened. also when i tried finding out wat kernel im using " uname-r" to find out more on why its not unblocking, the CLI says "comand isnt found" next two problems are small but are still frustrating
2) built in camera: the green light is on next to the lens but when trying to test the camera on skype or a photo program the video feed/ picture is black, or blank. not sure what i can do to fix that.
3) fingerprint scanner: yes i have one, i know its not efficient but I still like using it to login in instead of typing. im not sure how to get linux/ubuntu to recognize it if it even is. not sure how to set it up if it is recognized.
i would like to fix the wireless more than anything, if i can fix the camera and scanner then yeay, otherwise i can survive. oh and note i did try using the "additional drivers" app. nothing popped up.
i had just edited a picture in digikam that was going to be my new desktop wallpaper.when i went into system/preferences/appearance to make the new change it would not show the new picture that i had just edited as a choice to change my new wallpaper to. then i tried closing the appearance box and it would not close.then i shut down and restarted and when i bring up the appearance box it does not let me click on anything within.also can't close it.seems like other applications are working normally.

When watching a DVD I have to continually move the mouse as the picture fades and disappears after a few minutes. Am sure it is simple to fix.

I'm using a Logitech Webcam. I don't know what kind because it doesn't say anywhere on the stupid thing, but it has a spinny thing (to adjust the focus I think) that says "Right Sound" on it, and it also has a microphone.

Now I have the regular codec package installed and in most cases everything works fine, but for instance this video doesn't and there have been similar cases in the past aswell.

As long as the resolution of the external monitor is set to 1024x768 I can watch video with VLC, mplayer etc.
But once I set its resolution to 1280x1024 all mediaplayer play only sound. This happens on the external screen and on the built-in screen of the notebook. The desktop is extended to the external screen.
I just installed ubuntu 10.10 in a VM and went to change my desktop to something less boring and brown. I see in the desktop wallpaper program that there are certain photos that are in clusters (like you can click the photo and the next photo will come up and so forth). If I set my desktop to this cluster of sorts will it show me the photos sequentially or will it just stick to the first one. If not, is there a way to show this cluster sequentially in my background where it would change say, every minute or so?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed Mythbuntu on my old laptop (lenovo with on board graphics card). I have now the problem that when I connect the TV out to my TV the picture is flickering. It looks like the image is sometimes jumping to the left or right for a fraction of a second. This usually happens when the image is not still, ie I scroll the menue or a movie is playing. I already tried different display settings but that didn't help.

I currently have an amd dual core 2.2ghz processor and a H3200 ati graphics card which is more than capable of playing HD and blu ray perfectly in windows. I'm running ubuntu 9.10 with the latest graphics drivers 10.2. If I can movies etc., to play without lag etc., I can finally delete my windows partition. I want to avoid using a virtual machine for now.

THey are both HD Logitech webcams and give me a great image until they freeze.
I was trying to use Cheese today to take a picture using my built in web camera on my laptop. I am able to start the program and when it goes to take a picture, the program counts down and then quits.
When I run from the terminal the error I receive is:

I am having problems: videos have sound, but no picture.I'm using a Gigabyte motherboard with integrated ATI video, and I've read before that XBMC (and Ubuntu in general) don't like ATI too much. Is there any hope left to make XBMC work?I've tried the following:1. Fresh Ubuntu installation, default ATI drivers. Result: when starting a video, audio is okay, but no video. Also, visibly slow graphics even while navigating XBMC menus
2. Installed ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX driver via System->Hardware drivers. Result: significantly accelerated menu navigation, but no video still. Note: having no problems watching videos via VLC or Totem Movie Player (after downloading proper codecs)3. Fresh Ubuntu installation, then downloaded and installed ATI's proprietary Linux drivers from ATI's site (ati-driver-installer-10-7-x86.x86_64.run). Result: yippee, I see some video, but wait: no color!! (all videos are in sepia-like mode)
4. Followed these instructions to install the unofficial ATI drivers. I have been using Tvtime for several years and never had trouble with the video until now. Now it opens, but it's frozen. There is no picture and no sound, just a black screen that I can't control in any way. Even to close it, I have to go through the terminal.I can still get channels using Mplayer, so the tuner should not be the problem. However, t is an Hauppauge 950.I was using Lucid on both partitions. Initially, one quit,but not the other. About a month later the other quit while I was watching which makes me think it may be something I have simply hit on the keyboard. I have since upgraded to Maverick on one and reinstalled Tvtime to no avail

Does anyone have a clue on how to get this fixed, or if its even possible to get it fixed? I've tried searching guides for it without anyluck. And when i'm trying to set it to use gmplayer or totem it dosn't work either, mplayer and totem dosnt get either picture or sound.
View 5 Replies View RelatedUsing Ubuntu Maverick and Totem, DVD playback has a slightly shaky picture and a little static at the top and bottom of the picture. Also, top level menus sometimes don't display, or the menu displays but movie won't play, or just nothing happens when trying to play a DVD movie. This problem is happening on two completely different boxes with clean installs. DVD playback seemed OK on Kubuntu and Xubuntu 10.10, as was OK on 10.04. Is this a known issue? And if so, is there a patch?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have 9.04 and I recently "got" a 13.2GB 1080p HD movie. When I try to play it, it's choppy and mosaic like. The audio plays fine, but the video jumps and I can't get a clean picture except for maybe 15% of the time. I have to hold down the spacebar so it plays and pauses very quickly for the video to even proceed. I've updates VLC and Movie Player and I've downloaded many codecs and I can't seem to fix it.EDIT: I can play it in Movie Player without the pixel/mosaic-like effect, but it too is extremely choppy.
