It is like a jump (silence) that occurred randomly. I have read the sticky (Comprehensive Sound Problems Solution Guide) where I learn that I have more than one on-board sound cards after:

I used MusicBrainz Picard to tag FLAC and Mp3 files, fixed any necessary genre tags in Rhythmbox, and used EasyTag to rename the actual files. But now I'm interested in using those genre tags as folder names...is there any program that will sort my music into folders based on their genre tags?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen i mouse over to places/home, desktop, documents, music, pictures, videos, or downloads my music player (Banshee) opens. I had the same problem with Rhythmbox. Anyone else having this problem? To open one of the aforementioned folders, I go to Places/Computer and navigate from there. That sequence works, no problem. Also, don't know if its related but, tied "file manager" button to Docky and it won't open any of my folders.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHow can I have mediatomb access my music and video folders? When I attempt to access "Music" for example, going through /home, I receive this error:
"Error: could not list directory /home/samwise : Permission denied"
Is there a way to give permission to mediatomb to access them? Or is there a way to access them another route because they are shared?
I have my music library stored on an NTFS hard drive, from when I used to run Windows. The drive mounts successfully in Linux and I can manually play tracks from it, but I don't seem to be able to point Rhythmbox or Banshee to the drive or to folders on the driveto add them to their libraries. Is there any way to do this? Otherwise I'll have to begin the very long process of juggling files between hard drives until I have enough free space to format one of them
View 3 Replies View RelatedI imagine I'll have to install something, but Google has shed no light for me thus far. And just to clarify, when I say virtual terminal I mean the terminals accessed by CTRL+ALT+(F1-F6). I'm going to be doing a challenge/learning experience where I don't allow myself a graphical interface for a month. way around BASH through adaption. However, if I have to go a month without music I will go insane.
So, even if this is possible can I listen to music from the internet (....., playlist.com, etc.) or just music on my hard drive? And I'm not sure if this thread belongs in Desktop Environments or not, that section seemed to focus on graphical interface.
After installing fedora 10 KDE, i noticed I can't listen to any music with xmms,amarok,xmms2 etc. Nothing works
I updated everything I believe, it just won't play the files period. I get sound from ..... videos tho, so my flashplayer works. Let me know if I need to be more specific. I really would like to get xmms to work.
I have an old box, running Ubuntu 10.10. Mostly to be able to use internet and listen to music in my workshop. In the beginning this computer worked just fine. My Acer AL1912 was detected properly and screenresolution was automatically set to 1280x1024. When looking in system=settings=screens the monitor was detected as a Acer 1912. For some reason I brought the computer over to another place and that other monitor (an Eizo) was also properly detected. Resolution changed automatically to 1912x1280.
Now, when I have moved the computer back, all monitor settings are completely lost and I can't seem to be able to change them. I am stuck on 1024x768 and the monitor is detected as "unknown". I have tried to change the values for resolutions in monitor.xml but the values revert to 1024x768 (which look quite fuzzy on my screen. So my short question is: Is there anyway to completely restore the monitor-/screen settings in Ubuntu 10.10 so it will autodetect my monitor properly again?
I installed Unbuntu and tried a couple of media players to listen to music. This was a cd I put in the cd Rom. Both media players seemed to work ok, except that I was not getting any sound from either one. I did check to see if the volume control was on nil. That was ok. I do however have Sound blaster sound card installed. so my on board sound is off. I am not into the linux language as yet so I am a bit stuck at the moment.

Ok so I am a total newbie at Ubuntu Linux and I'm having problems I don't know how to solve.
1.) Up until yesterday this wasn't a problem, but after a power outage while I was connected I am now unable to connect to the internet anymore as it says "Networking is disabled", how do i enable the "networking"?
2.) Another problem I am having is that I am not able to dim the screen in order to save power among other uses, I've looked around but haven't been able to find a solution, I am running ubuntu on a Gateway M-Series Laptop.
3.) Finally, since installing linux I have been unable to listen to music or any other sounds through headphones or speakers, when i connect something into the audio output, the outer speakers do shut off but no sound is emitted through the speakers/headphones, and yes i have tried multiple ones to make sure it wasn't the headphones or speakers.
I've killed apache via /etc/init.d/apache2 stop, but something is still listening on port 80:
Code:
root@www:/etc/apache2/sites-enabled# netstat -an | grep LISTEN | grep 80
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:80 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:8022 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
unix 2 [ ACC ] STREAM LISTENING 5806 /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock
How do I find out that program this is?, or how to I stop it listening?
Anyone know of an application that will rename a folder to the contents id3 tags?
My music directory is a mess with folder names. Not a big deal since I use Banshee to library everything. I have a fairly large music collection on my main hard drive(140gb) but I keep id3 tags clean.
I'm setting up an ftp server and it will be impossible to navigate the way the folders are now.
Something similar for movies would be cool too.
I have no sound after upgrading to 11.04. Sound control panel and test speakers emits no sound. The new music player won't play sounds from music CDs either.

Everything was going fine until about an hour ago. I havnt changed any settings on the computer. I can't open any folders, they all give a "File not found" error. Also some pics in Firefox have inverted colors. I doubt they are related though. Im running 10.10 and have been for about 2 weeks. I am completely new to linux prior to downloading this.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've had an awkward problem lately: every music player I use wants to instead of play music from my USB external hard drive, stream music from it. I have no idea why it suddenly started doing that. It may have been an accidental key-combo I pressed, thinking I had another window targeted and didn't bother pressing it again for my Totem music player. So I closed out of Totem in hopes that Rythmbox would work like totem used to. Well, it doesn't. It wants to stream music now.The problem with the streaming music is trivial, but here it is: I have a playlist with a little over 300 songs. I have Totem set to shuffle and repeat my music. Streaming music with it makes it just stop randomly after a few songs, and when I try to pause music and play it later it takes a good 30 seconds before it kicks back in at the beginning of the song.Like I always ask because I don't know enough to give back to the community yet, can anyone help me? Thanks.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a music player that has the functionality of Windows Media Player. That is, a player that would search for music all over the file system (like Picasa does for images), and would work conveniently with folder structure - so I would drag an entire folder into the window and the player would create a playlist of it. I have Ubuntu, if it matters.
