I noticed that, when choosing different notes, LMMS not only changes the pitch of the instrument, but also the speed. So, if an instrument makes a sound that lasts about 5 seconds, a really low note can make it last about 10 seconds, and a really high note can last about 1 second. Is there a way to configure how LMMS handles sounds so that it changes their pitch, without changing their speed?

I am have installed LMMS which runs ok if I put minimal demands on it but if I start putting to many demands on it like running More then three Zynaddsubfx plugins or multiple sample players the cpu moniter goes into the red and it starts to sound bad and slow down a great deal. I know a small laptop is probably not the best choice to run a DAW on unless it has a good processor but this is the only computer I currently have and I really like LMMS. Is there any way I can get more performance out of my computer? I looked a little into overclocking but dell Bios Does not allow for this. Is there any tricks that I can do to get LMMS to perform better given the limitations of my system?

It seemed to install correctly (after a bit of reading about how cmake works....) but gives me this on run:

So my understanding is that it is missing a file or command associated with the program, through it not being linked or not existing. I have installed the lmms-vst package (converted from a deb package) but I still not see the VeSTige Instrument in the Instrument plugins list. I really want to use VST plugins.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI only upgraded to 9.10 about a week ago and ever since ive had nothing but sound issues i havent ever had any sound issues before. going back to 5.10 or so. ive used 9.04 since it came out without issues also and that definately used pulseaudio now since 9.10 ive had a multitude of weird audio issues rhythmbox and audacious2 both had an issue where audio id be playing would randomly go flat for a small while, and timing would get a bit off (i call it warbling) mplayer doesnt work well with ANY sound output anymore, seeking exponentially takes longer to restart when using pulse, sdl runs like pure snot now with sdls alsa and pulse libs for audio, its choppy and staticy then wine games are also having issues, using alsa OR pulse( with wine-pulse patch) it sounds like pure crap, its extremely choppy and staticy basically almost all the sound on the whole system has issues most of all games and video.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running a XFX Nvidia GTS 250 512MB card. I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 and so far I'm loving it - apart from one small issue. Using 195.36.24 drivers, I cannot control the fan speed - it keeps running the card pretty hot - hitting 75 deg. C when one OpenGL game is running. The fan barely goes over 60% speed - I'd rather have it run at 80% constantly to keep the temps under control.
There are drivers on nvidia website which "seem" to be a lot newer : 256.35 (using 64bit Linux) - are those "direct replacement" for the 195.36 which Ubuntu installs by default?
I have a well ventilated case (1x120mm pulling air, 1x120mm pushing out, neat cabling, etc). I have found nvclock but no joy - even with -force it doesn't want to change fan speed.
I installed audacity but it doesn't import mp3's. I even reinstalled the version from the packman repository but still no mp3 support. Tried to update it, can't figure out how to get it to play mp3's.
I am just looking for a media player I can open mp3's in, change the pitch and then export again.
I installed it yesterday and was disappointed that no sound played
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have openSUSE 11.1 on a ppc machine.I have enabled all the repos, adding to it the packman repo and the GNOME community and GNOME stable repos.I see most of the dependencies there, but a few aren't there. Specifically, ladspa-foo-plugins is keeping me from installing it right now. Does anyone know of a repo that supplies all the dependencies for lmms?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed LMMS 0.4.5 on my computer (Ubuntu 9.10), but I'm getting no sound output from the program on ALSA, and whenever I try one of the other options (PulseAudio, OSS, etc.) it reverts to dummy audio. I tried installing JACK to correct the problem, but JACK seems to be giving errors and quitting, and in the past I've always used ALSA for LMMS and it's worked just fine.The problem is local to LMMS, even after a reinstall. My audio output is fine for all other programs I've tested the problem for so far.Also, I just noticed that my instances of LMMS are not being terminated after the windows are being closed...

i'm having a problem with lmms. unlike some posts in the forum, my lmms does output sound, but after a few minutes it crashes. the program itself will just happily go on, but any sound crashes. i hear a glitch, en thereafter no more sound. the only way to fix it is restarting lmms, which is quite a pain in the *** if you have to do that every 5 minutes . the problem occurs to me every time i use lmms, so it is consistent. it seems to me that it crashes faster when i have a bar that includes somekind of chord; a single tone it can handle, but when there's bi- tri- or multiple tones, it just crashes nearly instantly. i've tried both alsa and pulseaudio, and both have the same problems. and it's not my overall sound that's crashing: rhytmbox and videos will just continue to play sound .

Ubuntu 64bit. The sound system works and plays noises correctly when I test the speakers in sound preferances. The internet BBCi player(Radio) plays sound correctly. Banshee & Rhythmbox try to play music files at double, or more, speed with no sound output. Spotify Linux version also tries to playback at double speed with no sound output. Media Player attempts to play music files at high speed. Media player plays the Video and audio tracks at high speed. VLC Will play the video at normal speed but with no audio.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn Windows (which I can happily say that I no longer have) I had a program called SpeedFan, which monitored the temperatures of my hardware and also my fan speeds. In Ubuntu I monitor my temperatures and fan speed through and AWN applet called Hardware Sensors; however I cannot find a program to change the fan speed. I think that it is just running at full speed in Ubuntu, I'm sure it was slower in Windows.

I've noticed that on a regular basis I see facebook statuses complaining about viruses (e.g. "sorry I haven't been on in a few days... my comp got socked by a virus and I had to reinstall everything")
Lately I've taken to commenting on these with a link to Ubuntu with a short testimonial about how I've been using Ubuntu exclusively for years and have not had any virus problems since (nor have I installed any anti-virus software).
On the flipside, I know that Ubuntu is not the savior to all computer problems, and that it has its own issues, but I just want to let people know that there is a choice out there, and they can choose if they would rather deal with Windows' issues or Ubuntu's issues. For many users, Ubuntu would make a lot of sense.
But I rarely get any response to these comments, and I wonder if I should stop bothering. Do you think this does any good? Maybe it just aggravates people? Maybe they have no idea what I'm talking about and the link I post makes no sense to them?
Is there anyway to change the scroll speed for the mouse in Firefox? Right now it leaps down a long way for each click of the scroll wheel, practically leaving me cross eyed and having to search for my position where I was reading. I can't seem to find a way to adjust this anywhere.

The only thing that has changed is that I have used a different usb port for my mouse now, and I have installed a copy of windows 7 on my second HD. However, after all this, my mouse scroll speed on Ubuntu is unbearably too fast. Its almost half a page for every one "click" of the mouse scroll wheel.

The mouse scroll wheel speed/line skipping is way too fast. It skips half the page in one scroll! Is there a menu (like Windows) that lets you customize this?

I have an AMD Athlon Regor 2.8 Ghz Dual Core CPU. About a month ago I overclocked the bad boy to 3.36 Ghz, on stock voltage. Since I have an AMD chip, I have the Cool and Quiet feature. With CnQ on, it never shows more than 2.8 Ghz (my stock speed), even on Full Load. However, with it off, it shows the correct 3360 Mhz all the time. I would like to keep CnQ, as well as my overclock. I've read in forums that it's okay to do that, that CnQ will automatically clock up to overclock when needed. But for me, with CnQ on, it only hits 2.8. Nothing more. Is this an Ubuntu problem? Is there a setting where I can change the maximum allowed speed of my CPU?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo right after I installed 10.04 there seems to be some short of mouse/joystick mess. What I mean is that 2 types of joysticks (Saitek x52 and CH Products Yoke) seems to control the mouse as well! So when I pitch/roll the joysticks the mouse cursor also moves. When I move the middle lever of the CH products yoke, the mouse also moves horizontally. Also it is almost impossible to work with the scroll bars of windows as joysticks interacts with them via the cursor and issues botton clikcs scrolling the bars to the end! This looks to be a new issue on 10.04 as 9.10 had no such issue.

I want to estimate how a certain piece of code will perform on different Intel Westmere processors. The various processors all support the same QPI and memory speed, and they all have the same cache sizes; the only difference is the CPU core clock speed (2.66GHz vs. 2.93GHz etc.) I already have one such processor running with a very fast CPU core clock. I would like to estimate the performance of the others without having to purchase them first.
Using cpufreq-set on Linux (acpi-cpufreq driver), I can set my core clock speed to a variety of slower values. My question is simply this: Does setting the core clock speed in this way change anything other than the core clock speed? That is, does it precisely simulate a slower CPU, or does it also slow down the front side bus or change the cache size or whatever?
I have two onboard gigabit connections and a PCI-E gigabit card, none of which seem to want to run beyond 100M. Everytime I issue the command to change speed to 1000M, it does nothing. I have tried modifying the interfaces file to make sure the command line for ethtool gets done automatically, but still no luck.

Since I am having performance issues with my local area networking (e.g. Samba transferring slower than the internet), I have been trying to figure out how to debug my network performance, and this was an obvious thing that stood out. so i don't know what happened, but all multimedia files are suddenly speed up/and-or with no sound (ubuntu 11.04 with all recent updates, firefox 4, adobe flash-instick etc.)
if i try to play a flash movie on for instance videos it's sped-up with no sound, if i play an mp3 song (i use exaile) the bar is sped up and there's no sound either, if i start an avi movie (vlc) it's not sped up but there's no sound though.
when i log in to the system the logging in jingle is not playing, so basically the sound just got turned off for some reason but according to the soundbar it should be on.
this problem started just recently. i don't know if it has to do with recent updates or that my log in re-started a couple of times after using a kde program (kmess).
