There used to be a dropdown menu at the bottom right corner of the main window of GIMP (the window with whatever image i'm working on), where i would be able to select between zoom levels (such as 50%, 100%, etc). Recently, that menu seems to have disappeared, and i've had to use the actual zoom tool, which i find frustrating since i have to switch back and forth between tools.
View 3 RepliesI need to change the default zoom level for Evince. There must be some way to do this. Besides, can Evince start without any PDF file loaded? Also, what is the command line to execute evince? (I run Linux Mint 8 based on Koala 9.10). Whenever it loads a file for which it assigns a zoom level more than 175% or 200%, the whole PC hangs if I click on the "reduce zoom" icon in the toolbar. This is a very big regression.
This is ridiculous! Even ePDFViewer is better than this. I really would like to stay with Evince for the time being, and not need to move to Foxit.
I've looked in gconf-editor but there is no entry for Nautilus.Can't find anything in documentation either.For certain folders I want nice big file icons but zoom increments are so large. At one point I have 3 icons across with extra space on the side. So I want to increase a little. One increase makes it so big only one icon fill fit across.Where can I find this setting and just pop in whatever zoom level I'd like?

I have installed openSUSE 11.2 in my PC. To enable compiz I have download and installed (using OneClick) the nVidia driver for my nVidia GForce 8500GT video card.I need to enable the 'Enhanced Zoom' because I'm a low vision user and I need a magnifier better than Orca.The problem is that when i try to enable it (from ccsm) there isn't any zoom... I try to press META (or Super) and scroll with wheel (SUPER + Button 4) but nothing.
I have see that if I press Super+2 (increase zoom) the mouse pointer moves to a specific screen zone but the screen will not zoom.
I've recently purchased the Zoom R16 Recorder, which can be used as an audio interface.Unfortunately there is no linux drivers available, but I'm hoping that there's something I can do to make it work. Is there anybody in here who has any experience with the R16 and Linux or knows how to fix the problem?

I have a number of videos I watch where I zoom/change aspect ratios due to the small size. I also want the player to have an auto resume feature, ie, if I stop watching a movie at 30 mins and go to play it tomorrow, it's exactly where I left off. Dragon Player has the resume feature but not the zoom/resize/aspect options. Do you know of a good quality movie player that has both? VLC is preferred but it doesn't auto-resume and the bookmarks are broken.

I use ubuntu 9.04 and well I turned on my GIMP the other day and I see that my info box has changed you know the whatyou've done to the image shower. Well I cant riht click and click the layers anymore it shows like say I hit backspace shows eraseer or clear what happen to the way I could right click it and do whatever. This happens on a system running 10.04 / 64-bit. As I seem to recall a recent gimp update (might be wrong), I checked a 32-bit 10.04 laptop and it does not show the behavior. For information: the 64-bit system has some additional stuff installed for image processing (ufraw and darktable) but I have been using this already for a while without issues. The other main change on this 64-bit system before I noticed the problem was the installation of a geforce 8400 video card including the 'nomodeset' option in grub and install of the latest driver from the nvidia website. verify that the gimp on a 64-bit system is still functioning.Further a 'repair' from within synaptic throws the following error

like the title says, after working in GIMP for, like, 5 minutes, my session suddenly closes and I have to login again. I have been looking a lot of time for a solution, but I've not seen anyone with this problem... does anyone of you have some kind of solution? I'm desperate. I really need to use it, and I don't want to use Wine+Photoshop, I don't like to rely on windows programs.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been recently using the GIMP, transferring from adobe photoshop. and the truth is i have been pleasantly surprised with GIMP, especially when comparing prices from the two. Anyway the one thing i have not been able to do, that i assume is possible is make a brush that i am able to sketch with with my wacom tablet.
what i mean by this is in adobe i was able to create a brush that would react affectively to the pressure senstivity and i would get nice realistic looking sketches that looked like pencil sketches. when i barley pressed on my tablet i would be light and when i pressed hard i was able to get the black line needed. i have messed around with the pressure settings on the brushes but havent noticed any difference when i press hard on my tablet or barely press at all.
I've been searching for a while now and come up empty handed, but after some research on the history of digital camouflage and how it was created I was able to devise a simple method for creating at least a close approximation of the real thing.
Step 1: start with a picture of the "texture" you intend to use. it doesn't matter if it's a low resolution picture because you are going to intentionally pixelate it
Step 2: use the noise plugin "pick" and create some static in the picture. I've found that you can just set everything to maximum and apply the pick with good results.
Step 3: (optional) if you want this to be a repeating pattern, at this time apply the "make seamless" tool under Map plugins.
Step 4: Apply a pixel blur. dial it in just to where you start to see hard pixel edges forming. In most digital camo patterns, the pixels are taller than they are wide, about a 3:2 ratio
Step 5: Choose the number of colors you want in your camo pattern. Virtually all digital patterns are either three or four colors, but never any more than that. Change the image mode from RGB to 4 color indexed. Then you can change it back to RGB if you wish to change the colors in your camo.
you can play with the settings on each step to dial in something that looks proper. The proper scale for your camo is roughly 1/4" tall pixels. Try playing with different textures, or even non digital camo prints. In about two minutes we've just created both a woodland and a desert digital print that is close enough to pass for MARPAT using free software.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI decided not to use Photoshop in wine on my computer but to only use GIMP because I heard there is so many free plugins on the internet that makes it function almost exactly as Photoshop.I install plugins but then GIMP wont open at all.I did a complete fresh install of 10.04 because I was having this GIMP problem after installing gimpshop and installing Photoshop 7, I figured it was the Photoshop that caused the problem
So now with a complete fresh install GIMP still wont work with any plugins installed.is there something i need before I can add any plugins or whats going on?
I found a filter I like, and I need to apply it on a couple thousand photos, how can I apply this in gimp to all these photos without having to work them one by one?

Doesn't seem to be a problem in other painting software like MyPaint and doesn't seem to be a problem when I log into ubuntu classic Gnome desktop rather than Unity.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI add layers and they don't show up and the controls at the bottom of the layers palette (add layer, bin, etc) are all blanked out and i can't select them. It's impossible to do anything with layers in GIMP as it is at the moment and i need to get it sorted. I have tried closing down the layers tab, restarting GIMP and then adding the tab again but i get the same result, a layers palette that won't respond or show any layers that i do add.

My solution was to make a 50x50 image, zoom in, draw it with the 1x1 pixel pencil tool, and then scale it to whatever size i want.Everything went well except, when i try to scale it the anti-aliasing kicks in and blurs everything. Is there a way that i can disable anti-aliasing?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been able to kludge a kill script which finds the correct pid for the kdeserver (or gnome server) after my system comes up in run level 5 so I can drop back to run level 3 mode. Lots of experimentation showed me that using telinit 3 and telinit 5 would occasionally leave the video memory in a mess and I would have the black screen of death.
I set the security parameter setting to autologin for me since I am the only user of my machine, but I still have to kludge the default setting under sysconfig (the DEFAULT_WM) under Window Manager to pick a certain window manager, so it takes time to manually switch the desktop.
Right now I can leave the gui and drop back to cli, but painful experimenting showed me that killing the X server is a no no. Right now I kill the kde server, which sends the SIGTERM to the X windows manager, which then figures out that it has to shut down.
Questions: Is there a better way of doing this? Apparently openSUSE figures that we have multiple users logging into the gui desktop, so the gui is always kept running and a login window with the desktop manager option forces the user to login in. With autologin, this never happens, but no choice of desktop is possible on the fly.
Can some type of script be set up to painlessly enable this to happen? And what is the best way of bringing either the Gnome or KDE desktop manager down gracefully? I do get lots of error messages as the system attempts to recover and X shuts down. It appears that apparently the single user with autologin is left out in the cold.

Any thoughts or how I may lock it at a higher input volume?
View 2 Replies View RelatedUbuntu 10.4 recognized a Samson C01U usb microphone when plugged in the very first time and the mic could be selected in Sound Preferences on the Input tab.gnome-alsamixer also showed the device from the beginning with a single volume control.After many hours of work backports-modules were removed and alsa-driver-modules reinstalled.There is now, finally, at least a signal that Applications|Sound & Video|Sound Recorder can record. The recording is very faint, but its there, along with an industrial amount of noise.
alsamixer gives 2 warnings about 'no idea what to do with line-in mode and Mic-in mode'. Forum posts have alerted there can be problems if both of these are on at the same time. One or the other should be muted to avoid a conflict. Muting line-in or Mic-in has no effect on the error messages. Maybe these warnings are unrelated to the core issue and can be ignored? The machine here is a desktop with 2 soundcards and playback works without any problem. Both JACK and Ardour seem to be working fine. Just no recording capability thru the USB Mic.Can someone shed some light on the signal strength issue and what may be needed to get the mic to work.
this should be easy but I dont know which option to use. I want to make a flier with Gimp, learned how to add fonts that are better than the crappy ones that come by default, but now I want to add images but want them to automatically scale to a size that I specify with a square I create by left clicking. I dont want to have to resize the entire image after measuring, I just want it to shrink/expand to fit an area that I specify for it.
