Ubuntu Multimedia :: Cinelerra Won't Start After Upgrading From Karmic To Lucid / Reason Of It?
Aug 29, 2010
If I try to open Cinelerra from the GUI, it does nothing. If I try from the terminal I get this:
Code:
cinelerra: error while loading shared libraries: libfaad.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I've been looking around all over the place and can't find a way past this. I really want to get it going again, can anyone help?
I've checked in synaptic and I have libfaad2 2.7-4

My Windows Vista installation won't start after upgrading from Karmic to Lucid. If I select it on GRUB2, it leaves a blinking cursor on screen. And I tried doing the whole test disk thing and the boot info script. This is what my Results.txt file says

Error during commit 'E:Internal Error, Could not perform immediate configuration (2) on mountall' Restoring original system state
Yeah...that's what I get every time I try to upgrade to lucid lynx.
NOTE: I haven't updated for quite some time. I may have gotten one or two updates for karmic but that was it. Just thought it might be important....
NOTE: Also not sure if this is important, but karmic installed and did some funny stuff to itself. My desktop no longer exists. It just isn't there. Also, when I try to turn of my computer it gets all kinds of errors and eventually I have to just pull the plug....something about a dev loop0 right after is says its deactivating swap...

I had a nicely working karmic 64bit/windows XP install, but the "upgrade" button to 10.04 has finally got the better of me. Now, when the PC boots up, the following failure occurs:Memory CheckPCI device listingVerifying DMI Pool Data ......error: no such device:e9eb88c2-67f2-47a7-bf9d-50b77b2d3480grub rescue>_Some more information.linux is on sdb1when I type "ls" I get: "(hd0) (hd1) (fd0)"however, I've not managed to get "ls (hd1,1)" or similar to do anything, the best I get is "error: no such partition".the command "find /boot/grub/grub.conf" results in the error "Unknown command 'find'"I've tried swapping the boot order in the bios from hd0 to hd1 but that has made no difference. There is no grub loader, no linux, no windows, no operating system of anykind, just the "grub rescue>" prompt.

Anyone know how to get sound during the editing session of Cinelerra? Any ideas out there?
Looks like no sound in rendered file either! So no sound at all with Cinelerra....
p.s. I have sound working fine with all of my other programs. And working with same files on Kdenlive, Kino or Pitivi, all give me sound no problem. Running a basic Karmic Ubuntu Studio 32bit setup.

My hp does not want to start X for some reason. I have so many errors. I made an account to just see this problem be fixed. Now when I type "startx" I get back, "bash: /usr/bin/startx no such file in directory". I have to use GRUB due to the fact I forgot my login. Although, I do remember my password.

I just did a distribution upgrade on my laptop from 9.1 to 10.04, and it went fine for the most part except this issue. After it boots up, I don't see any window titles/scrollbars/borders and on clicking the icon for "Show desktop" on the bottom left, I see the following error message:
"Your window manager does not support the show desktop button, or you are not running a window manager."
After googling a bit, I realized that gnome-wm is not starting automatically and so I have to manually start each time to see the windows working properly. Can somebody tell me if there is a way to make sure that gnome-wm starts automatically? I know I can put it in my .bashrc but I want to do it the correct way if possible. If not, I will have to go with that workaround.

The title pretty much says it all, the sound on this system was working fine until I ran the upgrade to Lucid. I've tried everything in the standard troubleshooting guide, the sticky threads and plenty of forum searches but so far I've come up with nada. For some reason Ubuntu refuses to see my soundcard, no matter how much I twist and tweak it. It's an Asus M3A78 motherboard with an on-board Realtek ALC1200 chip (snd-hda-intel). Here's most of the relevant output, hopefully someone can easily spot what's going on because I'm getting snow-blind staring at the monitor. code...

When I installed Lucid I got temporary wifi connection. It disconnected for no reason. Then it was constantly trying to reconnect, telling me my password was wrong. Which wasn't wrong at all. So I installed Lucid again from scratch and now everything seems to work fine. The only thing I didn't do was install the 'restricted drivers'. This was only one driver for me which had to do with my modem. Wifi works perfectly now. I hope it stays that way .reinstall Lucid and DO NOT install the 'restricted drivers' for your modem

I have tried installing cinelerra with autoplus and even doing it by hand. Both ways I get "No package cinelerra available" errors.
From Autoplus:
Code:
Checking programs Completed,Now Running Choice Menu...
Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
atrpms | 3.5 kB 00:00
Setting up Install Process
No package cinelerra available.
Error: Nothing to do
I also followed the installation instructions from the AutoPlus website and got the same result. I looked at the ATrpm website and all I found was cinelerra-2.1-21_git20101021.src.rpm, Am I doing something wrong, or is there another way to install cinelerra?

I've installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my harddrive and want to install Cinelerra (CV). I'd followed the steps on there website, but it doesn't seem to work for me. Since they haven't upgraded there version to 10.10, you are stuck with all the old dependencies. I needed to install: libcinelerra. Searched it, but this libary needed libx264-85, which I cannot find in Synaptic. Probably because it is and 10.04 libary. I do have libx264-9x.

I am trying to adjust some of the prefrences in Cinelerra 2.15CV, however the bottom of the screen is not visible, and I have no resizing options. What I would like to do is adjust the length of images that are inserted into a slideshow using Cinelerra. Right now I have to resize every image by using the drag handle, but It would be easier to do that with one batch function.
I am running Ubuntu 10.10 on a Asus netbook. If I go to System> Preferences > Monitor the largest resolution available is already selected: 1024X600.I have also tried to adjust the different apperances in System>Apperances I made a video of the issue here:

force an upgrade to Karmic instead of Lucid? (And no, sadly, re-installing is not an option as this is a server with no direct physical access)

I just upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 then discovered that, in openoffice.org-writer, the text in the UI is gone. It's strange because the text to be edited is still there. So maybe it's a font or rendering problem but I suspect something related to the window manager is going wrong. I have checked and re-installed openoffice but I haven't been able to fix this so far.

I think about editing and compressing some avi files and want to install cinelerra-cv. However there are some dependency problems it seems...
aptitude install cinelerra-cv cinelerra-doc cinelerra-cv-data
The following NEW packages will be installed:
cinelerra-cv cinelerra-cv-data cinelerra-doc libavcore0{a} libavutil50{a} libfaac0{a} libmjpegtools-1.9{a} libmp3lame0{a} libmpeg3-1{a} libmpeg3hv-1.5.0-1{a} libquicktime1{a} libquicktimehv-1.6.0-1{a} libva-x11-1{a} libva1{a} libx264-112{a} libxvidcore4{a} mpeg3-utils{a} ttf-bitstream-vera{a}
The following packages will be upgraded: libavcodec52 libpostproc51 libswscale0 3 packages upgraded, 18 newly installed, 0 to remove and 5 not upgraded. Need to get 16.5 MB of archives. After unpacking 31.5 MB will be used. The following packages have unmet dependencies: libavformat52: Depends: libavcodec52 (< 4:0.5.2-99) but 5:0.6.1+svn20101128-0.2 is to be installed. or libavcodec-extra-52 (< 4:0.5.2-99) which is a virtual package. Normally I say yes and hope for good, but this time... I do not use adobe flash player, but I would still like to watch ..... videos. Would be hard without gnash, right? I use iron portable and iceweasel. Also I use totem a lot, but aptitude seems not being able to resolve this inconsistency automatically. My question is: what would happen, if I just say "y"? gnash is completly away? And is there any way to install newer version of gnash or do whatever to have everything working?

I have been messing around with Cinelerra after doing a Final cut pro course some time ago but as it needs to be told what to do more i am finding it hard going. When I have track 1 that has audio and video and also track two has the same then i mute the audio in one and block out the video in then other. Then add effects. It is then moving audio or video around and nothing is in sync anymore. Not where i put things. I undo the effect to see if it will go back but no go. I try to undo to the point where maybe i missed something but nope that is not it. Inevitably i have to redo everything again but then i end up with the whole thing out of sync again. I had a previous install of Ubuntu and Cinelerra and i don't remember striking this problem. Am i not loading the tracks properly. I don't have a good work flow with this and i know i should try something more simple but i am impatient to edit videos i have had for years and years and years. I never did learn editing in windows so i am happy to be getting somewhere in Linux.

I have a Core 2 Duo iMac that I had set up for triple boot using Fedora Core (probably FC8 )and GRUB, Windows XP Pro, and Mac OS X v10.5. Some time ago, I had to blow out and reinstall my Windows installation because it had developed errors, but this also blew out my GRUB, leaving the Fedora install non-bootable. Since I never really used FC on this machine much, I didn't worry.
Lately, I've acquired an hp Mini 110, on which I'm running Linux Mint 8 (Helena), and I'd like to upgrade my FC partition on the iMac to Karmic, but when I run the installer, it won't let me use all of the existing Linux partition, instead wanting to resize it to accommodate both FC and Ubuntu.
How do I make the installer simply replace FC with Karmic, using the entire existing partition? I'm sure earlier versions of Linux that I've used had a simple "erase all Linux partitions and install" option, and the "Manual" option doesn't appear to read the existing partition information (I was too afraid to go any further).
I ended up quitting the installer, which put me into the Live CD environment, where I used the File Browser to "Format..." the Linux partition, but when I went back to the installer, I ran into the same problem, and it didn't seem to matter if I unmounted the existing partitions or not.

I really want Python 2.6, which is not part of the standard Hardy packages. I just tried installing the Python 2.6 Linux distro direct from python.org. While I didn't see any error messages during the installation, I'm still defaulting to Python 2.5, and 2.6 installed to a different folder than 2.5.
A secondary wish: I would also like GROMACS 4.0 instead of 3.3. Again, Karmic has it as standard, Hardy doesn't.
I'm running dual hard drives in a software RAID1 configuration. My system is Linux only, so I have no Windoze compatibility issues to worry about.
Still, I've gathered that upgrading in the presence of RAID is different, and more problematic, than a standard upgrade.

I installed Lucid (clean install after several attempts at upgrading from Karmic failed), and I have an Intel 8xx video card. I was able to get Lucid installed by adding "xforcevesa" into the command line at startup. Now I would like to try changing my computer away from Vesa and seeing if I can try to get the i915 driver working.
That being said, I cannot figure out where to go to change my kernel boot configurations. Every tutorial I've found refers me to /boot/grub/menu.lst which I cannot find. Ever since I moved from Karmic to Lucid, I've regretted it as it seems like all the How-To documentation is no longer valid, everything has been changed and moved around.
I don't know why it is dumping me onto Vesa, or why my stupid driver was blacklisted; everything was working fine under Hardy, Jaunty, and Karmic. Why problems now? Does anyone know how I can get into my boot setings and replace "xforcevesa" with something that will make the intel driver work?
