View 3 RepliesI had a opensuse 11.1 X86_64 system with openoffice. This has been replaced by an opensuse 11.3 X86_64 system with openoffice 3.2.1.4. I have many pps files and these worked complete with sound on the 11.1 system but there is no sound on the 11.3 system. The 11.1 system has gone and was overwritten by Windows 7 so I can't verify the build. I know I made lots of changes to the 11.1 system in order to fix various problems and openoffice could well have come from a factory repo.
What I need to know is what is needed to make impress play pps presentations as it did on 11.1 and does on windows 7. I searched on the internet and it appears that the novell version of ooo may use gstreamer. I have loaded many gstreamer packages from packman including plugin-good but still get no sound. Starting impress from a command line does not produce any error messages.Does the novell openoffice use gstreamer or java multimedia? I have not yet tried the java option I could try downloading the novell openoffice source and try to work out what it is using. I am not sure that I have the time to go searching through the source and probably trying to compare it to the ooo source
I recently upgraded from Lucid Lynx to Maverick Meerkat and my OpenOffice.org Impress presentations' sound is not working. I don't have any issues affecting sound in other applications.

I have tried configuring aslamixer, tried configuring the sound devices but nothing seems to work. i have also installed a lot of music players such as asla player, audacity and so on. i also tried configuring the aslamixer from the terminal but it did's work as well.
I must add that i have linux ubuntu netbook remix 9.10 i386 installed and windows xp home edition sp3. In windows, i have no problem playing any sound. (I am new to linux <2 days> but very experimented with windows <17 years>).
Moving any objects (text box, pictures) in a slide is extremely slow. Is anyone also experiencing this?
View 8 Replies View Relatedi have upgraded from 10.04 and now Impress wont display most videos when in SLIDE SHOW mode (most important). These videos do play however when viewed in editing mode. impress is thus unusable if you have videos. i tinkered with it all i could, i even reinstalled 10.10 from usb stick no progress.

View 4 Replies View RelatedBack in my Windows days I used Power Point but now that I am a Linux guy I use OpenOffice Impress instead. First, even in power point if I embedded sound files I had to make sure they were .wav files, and in this format they grew very large. I have been told that I can embed a .wav file in Impress, but there is a limit of 100k on the file size. Also there is a place where you can change this limitation, but I can't find where to change it. Does any one know where this setting is?
Next, let me tell you what I am trying to do and maybe someone has a better way of doing it. I have slides in my presentation where I display text and have sound files that read the text that is displayed. I have a couple of ways to do this, but both ways are just inserting sound files into the slide. All this does is point to the sound file and then plays it. This works find until I want to transfer it to another computer. To get the presentation to run on another computer I would have to re-insert the sound file so the pointer was right.
So this means I need to not only copy the presentation over but the sound files also. My main question: Is there a better way to do this? Even if I have to use a different program if Impress is unable to embed sound files. I believe that both Power Point and Impress both fall short in this area. I am trying to stay away from developing a program to do this. There must be something out here in the Linux world that would fit the bill?
I hear no sound with pulseaudio, but I hear the "ready for login" sound after the x server starts. OS: Ubuntu x86 10.04

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am new to using linux. i have installed gOS linux recently on my system. everything is working fine including the updates, videos and graphics but i cannot hear any sound. my pc configuration is intel dual coree 3.4 ghz, 3 gb ddr2 667 ram, intel 945 gcl (integrated sound driver by sigmatel), 160 gb 7200 rpm hard drive( seagate), nvidia 6600 LE 512 ddr2, creative 2.1. i have tried changing the default sound driver from intel hda alsa mixer which is the default as sound driver in the system to sigamel oss mixer but that proved to be of no use actually. i have also connected a few of my friend' pc s to my system to find out any problems if there is with the sound box but there isn't any.the speaker is just working fine with those systems. but when it comes to my own system i cannot hear any sound.

I can hear the sound of my files from any other program. However, Banshee 2.0 (the Ubuntu new player) seems to have a bug or something, and I can hear anything.
In the current release of Debian, is there a reason that I can only hear sound through one speaker. With any other distro, the sound can be heard through both.

I newly installed ubuntu 8.04 distro. on my IBM lenovo n200. every thing works fine. except for the sound.
The sound card is detected the driver is installed and loaded but it just won't work.
I have tried removing then installing alsa-base and alsa-utils but nothing.
I have tired tinkering with the mixers but still nothing.
I looked through lots of documentations and suggested solutions with no luck.
I believe that my problem is simple. but I need some one to check what I have done so far to see if I have done it right.
I recently installed Linux - fedora 10. This is the first time im working with Linx, i have no idea about Linux OS. My problem is i cant hear any sound if i play any music. I have real player installed. I suspect that the fedora 10 is unable to detect my sound card. My sound card is inbuilt in motherboard(Intel).
View 10 Replies View Relatedok so a while ago i updated ubuntu and the sound stopped working. i cant hear anything now not even a system beep - i tried the Comprehensive Sound Problem Solutions Guide by LordRaiden but to no success. i tried alsamixer and all that to check its muted, and its not.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Debian wheezy, and win xp, installed on my Toshiba Satellite P205-S6337 laptop. The laptop speakers do not work when the computer starts up, but they work in windows. After fiddling with the sound preferences and making sure the volume was turned up with alsamixer. I tried plugging in headphones.I could hear sound on the headphones. Then when I unplugged the headphones the laptop's built in speakers work again! This wouldn't be such a problem except I have to plug in and unplug a pair of headphones to make them work.

The following audio device was detected:

The ALSA driver version is 1.0.14rc3
Lib package is: 1.0.17.-1.e15

The sound log has:

The audio configuration sound test and the answer to the question No returns a message that says: automatic detection of sound card did not work. I am not sure what else is needed to diagnose the problem.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem when using Flash. Whenever I am listening to a Flash application (..... primarily), I am unable to hear sound from any other applications (Rhythmbox, movie player, etc).
The converse is also true, if I am using Rhythmbox, and then start ....., the video plays...but with no sound. I have to manually kill the app and web browser (tried multiple...Firefox, Chrome, Swiftfox) to get sounds working correctly. I am my wits end with this problem, and have just putting up with it for several months now.

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) with Skype, and I can't get the microphone to work. I can hear them, but they can't hear me. I tried the same headset with my Windows system, and it works fine, so the headset is OK.
I looked at "Sound Preferences", and noticed that when I click on the "Input" tab, the area where you can adjust the volume is set at the minimum, and grayed out, so I can't adjust it.
I installed Debian 8.1 with iceweasel 38.2.1esr-1~deb8u1
Whenever I want to open a youtube fragment I do hear the sound but the screen just remains green. I already googled the issue but found no solution that works.
How might i be able to play a small blip/beep sound to let me hear/test the audio levels upon volume change? Mac OSX users may know what I'm talking about. I had a similar application in windows. It helps me guage my volumes before i play games/...../videos.
