I am unable to hear any sound at all using my M-audio delta 44 soundcard (which works fine in Windows - Dual boot).how I can get this working?

I installed ALSA package yesterday, but there's still no sign of my Soundcard to be found. sudo aplay -l delivers: aplay: device_list:223: keine Soundkarten gefunden ... (no soundcards found)

I'm pretty much an Ubuntu noob and I'm about to give up. I've spent hours reading tips and tricks to get this sound card working but I usually end up making things worse. This will be my last attempt
- onboard sound is disabled in BIOS
- Delta 1010LT is recognized
- fresh Ubuntu 10.04 32bit install . . . everything is default.
- I know how to access the terminal and for argument's sake, let's say that's it. I need step by step.
I tried to remove all instances of pulse audio in the past and it removed the desktop as well. Talk about frustrating. Ok, so here I am. Fresh install, no sound and I haven't touched a thing.

I'm setting up a new PC and hope to use the Planet CCRMA packages for some simple home recording projects. The PC has a 64-bit processor, so I've installed the x86_64 version of Fedora 10. I've done the basic steps of adding the Planet CCRMA repositories and installed their real time kernel, so I'm think I'm ready to try and get started. First, I need to get my sound cards set up right. I have an M-Audio Delta 1010LT card, which I'd like to use for working with music and the Intel HDA card built in to the motherboard, which I'd be happy to use for things like system notifications and other incidental sounds. Here is what the system tells me about the cards:

The only ones that produce any sounds when I test them are the HDA Analog device and the Delta 1010 device, but the weird thing is that output seems to be coming out of the built-in output jack (on the motherboard) in either case. Does the OS route output from the Delta 1010 through the built-in card to its output jack? Also, I've connected only the first two RCA analog outputs from the Delta 1010 to my desktop speaker system - should I use a different pair of outputs for testing? Playing a CD directly from the CD drive works, but playing music files from Amarok does not. I'll leave it at that for now. I posted the information above to the Planet CCRMA mailing list threee days ago, but I haven't gotten any responses.
I've joined this forum because I couldn't find any answer anywhere else by searching the internet. I've installed a F10 64-bit default installation (with updates until 25 Feb. 2009), using nvidia latest proprietary driver, pulseaudio, kde4, proprietary flash 10 beta 64-bit plugin with firefox. When I play music on Myspace the sound dropouts randomly each 3 to 30 seconds when using my M-Audio Delta 66 soundcard.
I'm using the same configuration in F8 without this problem. After login (in F10) and some other times I also have a Kernel failure message: ALSA sound/core/pcm_lib.c:154: BUG: stream = 1, pos = 0xaaa, buffer size = 0xaaa, period size = 0xaaa I don't know if it has got anything to do with the dropouts. There are no messages in /var/log/messages when the dropouts occurs.

I am having a problem when using Flash. Whenever I am listening to a Flash application (..... primarily), I am unable to hear sound from any other applications (Rhythmbox, movie player, etc).
The converse is also true, if I am using Rhythmbox, and then start ....., the video plays...but with no sound. I have to manually kill the app and web browser (tried multiple...Firefox, Chrome, Swiftfox) to get sounds working correctly. I am my wits end with this problem, and have just putting up with it for several months now.

I can't hear the music playing on my speakers, BUT i can hear the music playing in my headphones when i insert my headphones jack.
I have tried configuring aslamixer, tried configuring the sound devices but nothing seems to work. i have also installed a lot of music players such as asla player, audacity and so on. i also tried configuring the aslamixer from the terminal but it did's work as well.
I must add that i have linux ubuntu netbook remix 9.10 i386 installed and windows xp home edition sp3. In windows, i have no problem playing any sound. (I am new to linux <2 days> but very experimented with windows <17 years>).
I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 AMD64 beta. After installing the flash player, everything worked fine. I installed a few updates, as well as Ubuntu Stuido from the synaptic package manager, and when I rebooted, I can't hear any sound from flash content displayed in Fire Fox. All other sounds work fine, and I made another user account as a test, and that account has full audio functionality, including flash...

I realize it's primarily a recording card (and that's what i bought it for) but ideally I'd like to use it for all sound functions on this computer and throw my crappy Audigy card away. What I need to figure out is how I can route left and right stereo sound to two of the mono outputs on the D44 (for instance, output 1 might be left and output two could be right). Does anyone have any experience with these cards?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter installing an external sound card, Im having some weird issues. The cards chipset is fully supported by suse, (CM8738) so I dont think thats the problem. Besides, I'm getting sound, but not in some applications. The system's sounds work just fine (login, logout themes) amarok plays without any problems, kaffeine, mplayer they all work flawlessly, in fact I can see the difference in quality between the onboard sound and my new card. However, no web browser is able to play any sound at all, firefox, opera or chrome, nothing,zip. Plus, vlc cant reproduce sound either, nor can smplayer.
I've tried switching channels on and off(muting)in kmixer and in alsamixer, on the console, with no results. I disabled the onboard audio on the bios before installing the new card, however my ati video card has integrated sound, which I cant disable.... I used to get this exact same problem randomly with the onboard sound, but I just had to go to kmixer and turn up the "pcm" channel volume, which was set to 0, and I had sound again on my browser. However this card's pcm channel is at max and turning it up or down affects the whole systems volume, not just the browser's. Is it better to just reinstall the sound system, if so how could I do that.
I hear no sound with pulseaudio, but I hear the "ready for login" sound after the x server starts. OS: Ubuntu x86 10.04

The audio configuration sound test and the answer to the question No returns a message that says: automatic detection of sound card did not work. I am not sure what else is needed to diagnose the problem.
New Ubuntu installation with a big problem: no sound.
OS: Ubuntu 10.4.1
Hardware: HP Pavilion Elite e9150t (64 bit)
Sound card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio
Preliminary checks of sound level settings and obvious dumb stuff but there is still no sound. The problem seems to be that the system does not recognize the existence of the sound card and insists on using alternative audio devices.

Ok my respected Linux genius. This is my project. First I have a Windows / Linux combo OS set-up!
In my windows, I use the latest realtex sound driver as this gives me complete control with recording output control and Microphone gain control. In the set-up, there is a stereo mixer component with is necessary to engage the direct sound recording from my sound card. To make this all come together, I use a sound recording software [ free sound recorder 9 ] and to convert the recording to a wma, wav, or meg, I use Roxio 10 to produce audio cd's to play on all CD Players.
The challenge for me in Linux is to create the same set-up with Linux applications to produce the same professional results.Presently, my kubuntu 10.04 has Alsa sound drivers, with a version of realtek incorporated. I have the Alsa mixer software as well as Audacity as the sound recorder program. But no matter what I do, audacity depends on the microphone to record, which makes the final recording pure crap. If I lower the microphone boost or gain in my Alsa mix, then Audacity can not record the ambient sound from the speaker output and it will only recognize mono and pulse as the sound method. With the pre mention set up, Who has a set up identical to what is offered to windows that will do exactly the same for Linux. I basically want to record directly from the sound card in my Linux, without depending on using my microphone and then a CD burning program to make the conversion to MPEG or the necessary file format for the burned CD to play in all CD players, not just on a PC) I am trying to stay away from command line language in the terminal. with my motherboard the onboard back sound jack's audio is VERY quiet, but the front jacks wired into HD audio work fine. (I'm building an htpc, btw.)
I tried for weeks to get it to work, but eventually I just pulled a cheap Dynex DX-SC51 card from another machine and turns out it works, but now I can't use the inputs and headphone jack on the front of the case without going into system>preferences>sound and changing "output" back to "internal analog audio stereo"
Is there any way to activate these two audio devices at the same time?
I'm trying to record some audio from 4-track cassette tapes using Audacity and a Sound Blaster mp3+ external usb audio card.I'm using Karmic.I have fiddled with levels on the sound card using alsamixer, but the only I way I can detect any sound from the tapes when recording is by turning the levels all the way up in alsamixer, and in doing this, I can faintly make out the audio beneath a large wall of static. If the levels are not maxed out, I only get static when recording in Audacity.

I can hear the sound of my files from any other program. However, Banshee 2.0 (the Ubuntu new player) seems to have a bug or something, and I can hear anything.
I have an external USB Sound Card (Audiophile Fubar II DAC) that worked flawlessy up to one or two months ago when suddenly it stopped to make any sound. The card, speakers, etc. are working, I tried it from another OS running on the very same PC. The card is detected, but it's dumb

The card appears under System->Preferences->Sound->Hardware but there are two unusual things (if I remember correctly). 1. The green sound card icon on the left is not shown, it's not gray, there is nothing (but the USB Headset, that works well, doesn't have the icon either so maybe it'ok).
2. From the Profiles dropdown I can only choose from four options (off, analog mono, analog stereo and digital duplex). Before there were more (digital output only, etc.).I checked the levels several times. Another external USB card (SB Xi-Fi 5.1) works well.
I have been using Ubuntu as my main OS on my desktops for a couple of years now. Started off with a HP with a Creative Labs XiFi soundcard, but am now using a Dell with a Creative Labs Audigy. Sound worked perfectly on the Dell since a clean install (about 7 months ago). I turned it on a week or so ago, and no sound! Even the little sound indicator in the notification area has gone.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am setting up a mythtv/xmbc box on Ubuntu 10.10 (natty does not install on my hardware). I have a Sabrent TV PCIRC tuner card, which seems to work fine with the proper card and tuner settings. My on-board sound is HDA-Intel surround sound, which I have configured as analog duplex.
Currently the sound works fine through my speakers plugged into any jack on the back of the PC (two speakers, one jack). I can watch ripped movies and listen to music. The TV tuner is pumping sound from its external jack -- if I hook it up directly to the speakers it works fine. I can feed the Tuner's sound to the line-in on my motherboard, but nothing comes out. In the sound manager, i have the input device selected and the input level shows that the sound is coming in through the connector, and I can test the speakers and they work fine, but they don't seem to be communicating that the sound coming in needs to be pumped out through the speakers.
I have installed xubuntu version 10. My sound card is a Yamaha dS-1S, and seems to be properly configured. Alsa mixer doesn't indicates any error. However, I can't manage to get any sound. I have checked that jacks are correctly plugged.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was just using the mic and watched it stop working suddenly. I was in the middle of a skype test call when the graphical mixer level died down to zero in the middle of the call. When the test call was played back, the first part sounded fine then the sound got lower until it became inaudible. Since then I can't get any sound from my mic in skype.
Also, the audio input level graphically shown in Sound Preferences shows no fluctuations in sound as it used to before. The input device is enabled. I tried using Sound Recorder to record some sound clips and that worked fine. So the mic is working but Sound Preferences and Skype seem to have the mic level really low. I'm not sure what else to think considering it was working perfectly a few minutes ago. I've tried restarting, but that didn't fix it either.
Sound should be easy. Far more easy than video, but i experience more problems with sound, than with my Nvidia GFX-card.It seems OpenSUSE use several type of sound-systems like Alsa-sound, Pulseaudio and OSS. Then its somthing called Xine and GStream that i've never heard about.I have OpenSUSE 11.3 64bits with KDE4.6.1What should i use and what can i uninstall?Now it seems i'm using PulsAudio with Xine-backend.
