Aug 4, 2011Can't hear audio through headphones.

View 1 RepliesI can't hear the music playing on my speakers, BUT i can hear the music playing in my headphones when i insert my headphones jack.
I have tried configuring aslamixer, tried configuring the sound devices but nothing seems to work. i have also installed a lot of music players such as asla player, audacity and so on. i also tried configuring the aslamixer from the terminal but it did's work as well.
I must add that i have linux ubuntu netbook remix 9.10 i386 installed and windows xp home edition sp3. In windows, i have no problem playing any sound. (I am new to linux <2 days> but very experimented with windows <17 years>).
I have Ubuntu 10.10 installed in a notebook. Everything goes gone but the sound output, I can only hear the built in speakers, and I didn't find the headset output controls. I know there's no more mechanical switch as in the past, I mean, when you plug the headset it's is detected by the OS and the sound should come from that output, instead of the speakers, but that's not my case.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Debian wheezy, and win xp, installed on my Toshiba Satellite P205-S6337 laptop. The laptop speakers do not work when the computer starts up, but they work in windows. After fiddling with the sound preferences and making sure the volume was turned up with alsamixer. I tried plugging in headphones.I could hear sound on the headphones. Then when I unplugged the headphones the laptop's built in speakers work again! This wouldn't be such a problem except I have to plug in and unplug a pair of headphones to make them work.

View 8 Replies View RelatedOne issue that I'm having with Fedora that's stopping me from dropping Windows altogether is that I can't seem to get my audio in line to play directly to my speakers.
Basically, I've got my games console set up so that it uses the desktop computer's speakers as audio output, and is also plugged in to the same monitor and I can change the source depending on what I want to use it for.
I know the hardware works, as the whole thing works fine when using Windows (XP SP3), and I can still record from the audio in line using Fedora (so I can record me playing the game, then play it back and hear it through the speakers), but I've got no idea as to how to redirect the game sounds directly to the speakers.
Interestingly, every tutorial I've found so far suggests that the opposite should be the problem, and that the situation that I want to be in should be enabled by default. That said, I've been tinkering with the audio packages and whatnot long before I tried using the machine for gaming, so maybe I managed to inadvertently remove a package some time ago.
I have f13 installed in my system. My problem is ,i can hear sound thro' my desktop speakers but not with my audio headset. I have tried in many ways to fix it , by reinstalling pulse audio , installing ALSA etc But failed. In my system menu bar -- in preferences sub menu-- there is no " ADVANCED AUDIO CONTROL" available to edit sound output. similarly i am not able to use the mic of the headphone.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've installed a tv card but I can't hear the sound through my built-in CMedia soundcard when I watch tv with TVTime. The tv card's audio output is externally connected to my soundcard's line in input. In the 'Input' tab of the 'Sound Preferences' dialog, I can see the input level meter moving.
Audacity can record the tv sound, and I can hear it when I have the 'pass-through' option enabled, or when I play the recording.
I can play media files without a problem, and I can hear the system sounds.
But for some reason I can't get the tv sound to go through to the soundcard's output.
Obviously I've got the audio configured wrong, but I don't know what to do to fix it.
When I run the audio configuration I get:
The following audio device was detected:
Vendor: nVidia
Model Coporation GF100 High Definition Audio Controller
Module snd-hda-intel
but I do not hear sound.
The ALSA driver version is 1.0.14rc3
Lib package is: 1.0.17.-1.e15
Utils package is: 1.0.17-1.e15
The sound log has:
class: AUDIO
bus: PCI
detached: 0
driver: snd-hda-intel
desc: "nVidia Corporation GF100 High Definition Audio Controller" .....
The audio configuration sound test and the answer to the question No returns a message that says: automatic detection of sound card did not work. I am not sure what else is needed to diagnose the problem.
I have installed Skype 2.1 (Beta) in linuxmint Julia, now when I am communicating with anyone or video conferencing, I am able to hear the other person but the other person is unable to hear my voice, I talked with someone else who is facing the same problem in Ubuntu.

View 2 Replies View RelatedLet assume that we have the following situation: we have a sound in the speaker systems or in earphones, maybe we play an audio CD, some mp3's or maybe a movie, etc.
All I know is that the sound goes through sound card to speaker system or in earphones, no matter the source.
How can I obtain the audio stream that I hear in speaker system or in earphones?
I would like to write an application that record and analyze the audio stream that I hear in my speaker system or in earphones. My OS is Ubuntu 10.04.
If you have a recommendation like "try to use ALSA", please provide more details like "in alsa-utils you have a class Class_Name, with the following function Funcation1, etc. Try to use the Function5 as in the following example".
I have some problem with my sound settings. I only get sound through the internal speakers of my notebook, not through the headset.Does anyone know how I can fix this?My notebook is an Asus K52f with Ubuntu 10.10.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHow might i be able to play a small blip/beep sound to let me hear/test the audio levels upon volume change? Mac OSX users may know what I'm talking about. I had a similar application in windows. It helps me guage my volumes before i play games/...../videos.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWith Fedora 15 64 bits, all updates installed, i have no audio with headphones. the audio works fine with laptop speakers, but when headphones jack is inserted the audio continued from the laptop speakers and no from headphones. with older fedora and ubuntu editions there is no problem with headphones audio output.
this is a gateway nv53 laptop.
In ubuntu 11.04 I solved the problem adding two lines in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf:
options snd_hda_intel model=laptop
options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1 enable=yes
But in Fedora this file does not exist
so my problem is that i can't disable the speakers on my laptop when i plug in my headphones. in other words, i get sound from both the headphones and the speakers, when the expected behavior is to disable the speakers when headphones are plugged in, and enable the speakers when headphones are unplugged..
i've been looking around the forum and google, and i found a way to adjust the speaker and headphone volume manually in alsamixer. To adjust the headphone volume on alsamixer, i can raise or lower volume using the "Front" volume bar. To adjust the speaker volume, i raise or lower volume on the "Speaker" volume bar.
so, it's cool to know that i can do this manually, but i'm sure there's an option i can put in alsa-base.conf to automate this. i just can't seem to find that option...
anyway, i'm using Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit...and here's my alsa-base.conf file
Code:
# autoloader aliases
install sound-slot-0 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-0
install sound-slot-1 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-1
install sound-slot-2 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-2
[Code]....
I'm running a Dell inspiron 1501 laptop with a sigmatel stac 9200 sound chipset.
When I had ubuntu 9.04, I had sound no problem and when I upgraded to 9.10 I had sound for a little bit. Now the only way I get sound off my laptop is by plugging in my headphones.
I've tried trouble shooting this a number of ways using the following links as the latest:

My question is...is there anyway to get sound on my laptop without having to go through headphones?
ps. I've installed and reinstalled ubuntu 9.10 and 9.04 and neither of them have sound.
I want to make the audio available only on my headset and to turn the laptop speakers off. In windows, when i plug in the headphones, the speakers automatically turn off and audio is output only on the heads but that's not the case with slackware. I was looking in alsamixer and the audio and video configuration, but no success.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI currently have my desktop setup with two displays, one of them being my living room tv that I run Boxee on. My problem is that all the audio runs through the same speakers preventing me from listening to music or gaming at the same time as when Boxee is in use.
I would like to know if it's possible to split the audio so that an application of my choosing only outputs sound through my headphones. I was thinking it would be possible with some of the controls in pulse, but if it is I cannot figure it out.
I was trying to fix my audio, I had it coming out of my headphones and speakers at the same time. I was told to run this script to try to fix the problem but it only made it worse. I've attached screen shots showing that I now have no hardware showing.

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) with Skype, and I can't get the microphone to work. I can hear them, but they can't hear me. I tried the same headset with my Windows system, and it works fine, so the headset is OK.
I looked at "Sound Preferences", and noticed that when I click on the "Input" tab, the area where you can adjust the volume is set at the minimum, and grayed out, so I can't adjust it.
