Ubuntu :: Missing Disk Controller On PCI?
Jan 16, 2010
I am attempting to upgrade my system to remove the two aging IDE drives and replace them with four SATA drives. I already have one SATA drive, which means I need a total of 5 SATA ports. My motherboard has two, while I had an existing PCI controller card (Promise TX2-Plus) with two ports. I purchased another card that uses the Sil3112 chip with two ports of its own.I have been running with the one Promise card with no problems for quite some time; lspci output is
Code:
sarmitage@ophelia:~$ lspci
00:00.0 Host bridge: nVidia Corporation nForce2 IGP2 (rev c1)
00:00.1 RAM memory: nVidia Corporation nForce2 Memory Controller 1 (rev c1)
00:00.2 RAM memory: nVidia Corporation nForce2 Memory Controller 4 (rev c1)[code]....
how I can get these two cards working together?

I use Linux Mint Debian XFCE and there was a large update (lots of programs) I have done prior to rebooting. After reboot, my computer can now no longer find the ethernet controller anymore in lspci, so my wired connection no longer works.
Is this a hardware issue? The green lights are all blinking fine though.

I have an ASUS P5Q PRO motherboard with an integrated Atheros AR8121/AR8113 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Adapter.I installed Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid" 64bit Kernel version 2.6.32.21 I have read that the driver isn't in the kernel, but there's a strange thing :
First if I try to run lspci from command line it doesn't reports Atheros Ethernet Controller.
Second If I try to run lshw -C network from command line it doesn't reports Atheros Ethernet Controller.
Third if I run ifconfig it only returns my loopback address.
Can I suppose that my Ethernet Intel Gigabit Controller is broken or that Atheros driver is missing?

I'm getting a HDD Lock screen or Disk Controller Failure at boot up. (Compaq Armada) The HDD stops the system dead. The controller failure will allow me to boot Fedora or Puppy from the CD drive.

Basically i want it so that the analogue stick on my PS2 controller, which connects via a USB adaptor and is recognized, correctly controls in game characters. It seems to work fine enough in platformers, at least it does with Banjo Kazooie, but with games like perfect Dark it seem to be trying to move forward and look down at the same time, also backward and look up simultaneously and look sideways and move sideways simultaneously , rendering the game all but unplayable.
I have tried running jscal and, apart from the fact that it seems a bit beyond me, it reports "jscal: missing devicename" when i try to run "jscal -c". Do others out there have there analogue sticks working correctly with games like Perfect Dark, or the James Bond games, for example?

I can not get the node or cloud controllers to startup using the init.d scripts. I have a fresh install of CentOS 5.4 with Eucalyptus 1.6.2 I have compiled Eucalyptus and all packages using the RPM supplied from Eucalyptus and utilizing yum installer. I do not currently have any processes or applications listening currently on the ports on the boxes as well. I think it may be a permissions issue or something because I get a "permission denied error", but I am not sure if it is Eucalyptus or CentOS. It looks as if it is not binding to the address on the interface of the NIC. It may be something else however. I have the Node controller, Cloud controller, and Cluster controller on seperate physical boxes. When I try to run either the cloud controller or the node controller I get this message:
Cloud Controller:
[root@cluster-cont ~]# /etc/init.d/eucalyptus-cc start
Starting Eucalyptus cluster controller: (13)Permission denied: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:8774

I have a 650 GB ext3 LVM partition with RAID 1 on. The partition is 85% full, but the system says "no space left on device" - where did the 15% go?I ran "tune2fs -m 0 /dev/mda1", so it is not the space reserved for the root - so Nautilus reports the same free capacity as GParted now. Some more info:- Ubuntu 9.10 x64- GParted says 650 GiB, 104.83 GiB free- Nautilus says 104.8 GiB free- The system thinks the disk is completely full - I cannot even create (touch) a new empty file

At the school i work in i have a server2k3 server that provides a domain to all the windows clients, aswell as a fedora server that acts as an imaging machine and webserver.
Im rather concious of the fact that if for any reason the Server2k3 server was to die there is no backup of active directory, or anything that can take its place whilst a replacement is found.
So is it possible to use a fedora machine with samba as a secondary domain controller? so it can be used as a login server, and has a copy of AD.

I use vuze. I added some torrents to it, but some time after i removed them using vuze's interface. I did these steps:
1. Right button click
2. Remove and
3. Remove both
After doing this, there was no change in my free disk space and some bizare things started to happen. Here is a screenshot about free disk space confusion that is happening. The partition is ext3. Does anyone know what could be the cause of this? How can i fix this? Does anyone experienced the same problem?
Here is a screenshot showing differences in free space displayed by nautilus and df.

I started getting this warning that my Home partition disk space was running low, so I ran a disk space analyzer which only told me that I was using about 650 MB. Since I had 5 GB allocated to the home partition, I knew that something was not right. After manually going through all of the primary subdirectories on home, I found the culprit, namely an unexecuted game installation directory taking up about 4.5 GB. So I deleted the files, but then I didn't get my disk space back. I rebooted, no change. I ran this program called sfill, part of Secure Delete, which is supposed to wipe the directory 38 times and totally clean everything off. Still, no change. Any ideas how to reclaim my disk space?

However it says that 55.7GB is used even though disk usage analyzer shows me that I have only 21.4GB filled up with data (filesystem). What is taking up all the space then?Could someone help me with this issue? I have tried to search the forums with no satisfying result. Here is the disk usage analyzer output:And here is the df output from terminal:

One of my raid disks (was a software raid5 with 4 drives) failured. I wanted to buy a new 1.5TB harddisk anyway so i i copied all the Raid data onto the new disk and disconnected the old ones. But then the new Disc crashed right before i could mirror it with another 1.5TB disk. So i need to reassemble my old Raid 5 now. I connected the drives in the former order except the first one, because this was the failed disk. The problem is, mdadm can't find the raid, no superblocks. Fdisk doesnt show mdraid superblocks, too. But fdisk has never showed superblocks. The thing is, this raid was crypted, but i crypted the /dev/md0, so this doesn't affect anything here, or?
some infos:
Code:
server:~# mdadm --misc -d /dev/sda
mdadm: option -d not valid in misc mode
server:~# mdadm --misc -t /dev/sda
[code]....
Disk /dev/sdc doesn't contain a valid partition table But fdisk always said there is no valid partition table and the raid was working.

My raid array has failed. I have two disks /dev/sda and /dev/sdb./dev/sdb has failed and I could not rebuild the array(madm returned that the device is busy) so I rebooted the machine. After that, the whole sdb disk went missing, as it now only shows sda in fdisk -l.Did the disk went totally dead or my raid glitched?

why my df -h command is telling me I'm missing 18G?
***
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/vg_aikifedora-lv_home
357G 272M 339G 1% /home
***
This was 'df -h /home' straight after a fresh install. It says it's 357G in size, but even though 272M is in use, it's telling me I have only 339G left available. Where did that extra 18G go?

I seem to have a major discrepancy between what df reports and what du reports. df tells me that I am using 20G, but I am only able to find 9.5G using du. What follows are the ls -l of root, a df of my system, and the du for every directory in root that is not a symbolic link, mnt, or proc. I would appreciate any suggestions on where to look for the remaining 10.5G that seems to have disappeared.
I am running under VM Player code...

I do not have the machine personally but a friend of mine says her netbook with Linux detects the disk in the bios, but can not access it during the live usb. (but it worked previously). I have confirmed this with fdisk as fdisk detects the other devices as /dev/sdb and /dev/sdc, so it knows there is supposed to be a /dev/sda, but it is not there.

Purchased (4) 2TiB Drives (actual disk space) and created a RAID5 array expecting to have 6TB of useable disk space, however actual useable space is 5.46TiB.
So, the question is where did the disk space go?
First off, I can say for certainty the disks actual useable is verified at 2TB each have mounted and formated on a non-linux system (OSX).
Disks - 2TB Per disk, Tested HFS, Actual 2TB Useable
root@server:/server# fdisk -l 2>/dev/null | egrep "sd[hijk]" | grep Disk

Disk /dev/sdj: 2000.4 GB, 2000398934016 bytes

I'm trying to find a reasonably priced PCI to IDE controller that will work under Karmic. I have just built up a new PC which has SATA HDDs and want to put my old IDE drives in it. It has only one IDE interface on the mobo which I've got my DVD/CD drive on.
My research so far has found users have tried in the past with varying success.
