Debian Installation :: 5.0.3 'Lenny Missing Drivers \ Doesn't Work At All?

Feb 27, 2010

In reply to my last question about Wireless incompatibility in Debian 5.0.3 'Lenny', I found out it was because of missing drivers that I chose to ignore, despite the notifications. Now I've got this problem again, this time with different hardware and a different distribution of Debian (Debian Testing 'Squeeze' i386). As well as asking me to load up ipw2100-1.3.fw (of which I already have), it asks me to load tigon/tg3_tso5.bin. Loading the firmware is no problem. Finding and downloading nthe firmware is the problem here.I've searched through packacges and bug reports for a dowload link, but I've only come across a bundle with the driver I need, as well as a few unneeded extras. IT doesn't work at all.

Debian Installation :: Loading Missing Firmware - Failure To Detect Drivers

Aug 5, 2014

So, I am having certain issues regarding Debian installation. Since my Wi-Fi card, Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG, requires non-free drivers not provided within Debian install image, I am bound to use USB stick during installation process to get those drivers, iwlwifi-3965-1.ucode and iwlwifi-3965-2.ucode, to enable Wi-FI on my system. However, no matter what I do, I cannot get debian-installer to detect drivers present on the machine. I have tried virtually everything - downloading drivers from multiple sources, renaming drivers properly, using ext4 instal of fat32, using gpt instead of msdos, placing files in /firmware instead of root directory - but no matter what I do, the outcome is the same. USB stick seems to be working properly. Am I bound to downloading non-free image now, or is there a solution?

Debian Installation :: Stretch / Grub2 Appears Missing After Install From USB

Aug 9, 2015

I have a laptop with 2 HDDs, 1x SSD (/dev/sda, Windows 10 Pro x64) and 1x HDD (/dev/sdb, 3 primary partitions: boot, root, swap; 1 logical partition: home).I used the Debian Stretch Alpha D1 Netinstall ISO x64 by transfering it to a USB stick with DiskImage Writer. The installation went perfectly fine. I chose GRUB to be installed in the MBR of /dev/sdb, as I want all my Linux Stuff on that second disk. The plan is to boot the second disk manually through the BIOS whenever I want to work with Debian. My Windows disk is kept unaware of anything "linuxy".

After the install was complete and I booted my /dev/sdb through the BIOS, a blinking cursor on a black screen was the result. And I don't mean a GRUB Rescue prompt.IMHO, Grub appears to not have been installed, although I chose it to be installed in the MBR of /dev/sdb at the end of the installation.

I've been reading a little, searching for a bug in the installer, but I found only a vague mentioning of such an issue: Grub missing if Debian installed on a multi-hdd system through USB stick. The solution was to get Super Grub2 Disk, and use it to boot my Debian. It worked as expected and the system booted.

Debian Installation :: USB Stick Install Fails - Missing Operating System

Nov 18, 2014

I want to try Debian on my Asus Eee netbook and I'm trying to follow the instructions in URL... But just copying the ISO file to the USB drive then trying to boot from it doesn't seem to work. I just get "Missing operating system".

The Eee can use an external optical drive as well but that failed also. I'm sure I need to do more to prepare the USB drive or CD? Can I prepare the USB Drive or CD on my Windows system, and make it boot on the netbook (which has another Linux distro on it now)?

KDE Plasma version 5.4.2
Qt Version 5.5.1

Fedora :: Make Browser - Firefox - Automatically Search And Install Missing Unicode Font?

Aug 23, 2010

Unfortunately far for all unicode characters can be displayed in Fedora by default, (much less than in M$ Wnd). There is a tool that aim to find and install missing fonts when an non-displayable character appears, but it starts mainly when I accidentally open non-text file in terminal and never when a web-page I open in Mozilla Firefox (or Konqueror) contains such kind of characters. So, I see a rectangle with hexadecimal number of character in it (or simply empty rectangle in case of Konqueror) and don't know if there is a easy way to see it by installing missing font automatically (or manually at last) for range of this character or a way to install complete font collection to display all unicode characters from all ranges.

Debian :: Install Dbus - Missing /etc/rc0.d ?

Aug 25, 2010

Debian and running Lenny on a server. I'm trying to install dbus and get an error:

So it seems I'm missing the /etc/rc0.d directory. I checked and all the other rc directories are there, from rc1.d to rc6.d, rc.local and rcS.d.

I don't know how deep these things go and I don't know why I'm missing the rc0.d. Can I just create the directory myself and that's it? It doesn't break anything somewhere else if I make it up myself? Or do I need to do something else to get this working?

Ubuntu Installation :: Missing Network Manager Applet And Broken Kde After Upgrade To 10.04

May 1, 2010

I was running Ubuntu 9.10 on my HP G70 laptop and did an upgrade using upgrade manager to Ubuntu 10.04.

Since I haven't been able to get wifi connection or wired working. The Network Manager applet is missing from the notification area and if I try to run nm-applet manually it says it is already running. I tried killing the process and then running it manually in the terminal and although the process appears to be running it is missing from the panel.

Booting into the live cd has the applet working fine so something in the upgrade process must have failed.

I tried changing the theme to see if it displays in other themes but had no luck.

I also tried to log into kde but kde seems to be broken. When I log into it after the splash screen all I get is a black screen with only my mouse pointer.

Debian :: Net Install Missing DPKG To Load The Necessary Packages?

I'm attempting to install Debian (Stable) from a business net install disc. The problem? I can't load/install the packages I need to connect to my USB 3G modem. When I load up a shell (tty2?), I'm brought to an 'ash' prompt, and there's no DPKG for me to load the necessary packages.

how I can do a total net install, including the base, from an USB 3G modem? Actually, I'm very surprised that current Linux distros don't seem to include support, for this growing market share type of internet connection.

Debian :: /dev/vmmon Missing From Lenny - VMware Could Not Install VM Guest

Nov 5, 2010

Trying to install an XP Pro virtual machine as a guest in VMware Workstation 7.1.2, fails with the error: "Could not open /dev/vmmon. No such file or directory. Please make sure that the kernel module 'vmmon' is loaded".Host OS is Debian-Lenny. Was able to specify the new virtual machine configuration, but VMware failed to create the new image (because of the error specified in previous paragraph).

Is the problem that Debian is not loading/executing a needed process? Should I be directing this problem to either Debian or VMware? I searched the VMware documentation, and it mentioned something about chkconfig (Redhat), or the rcconf/ksysv utilities to change SUSE configuration levels. I am unfamiliar with the syntax, don't know why this is necessary.
