Ubuntu :: Lucid- Trash Remove/recover Won't Work?
May 10, 2010
I mistakenly moved a folder to the trash where it is stuck. I have tried moving it back to its original location using 2 methods, drag and drop, menu -edit- move. I also tried moving the files within the folder out indivdually though I get the same message. When trying, I get an error message Quote:Error while copying "mlmeTypes.rdf"There was an error copying the file into media/(location)/(file name).Show more detailsItems in the trash may not be modifiedI am glad it isn't something important! not this time at least.

I switched from OpenSUSE to Fedora and I moved a folder full of coursework and a backup of that folder (which was pretty outdated) onto a usb. Once I had installed Fedora, I first deleted the outdated backup, intending to make another fresh one but then I realised that somehow the original files hadn't copied from OpenSUSE onto the USB.
The situation I'm in now is that I only have the outdated backup in the trash can so I need that back but I get the following error message when I try and recover it:
Quote:
Error while copying to "desktop". There was an error getting information about the destination.
And then when I select the "Show more details" drop-down:
Quote:
Error stating file '/media/5E7A-32A1/desktop': No such file or directory

I moved a few files from a directory in my home directory structure to the KDE trash folder, and then deleted them from the trash folder. About a minute later I regretted this, and now I'd like to see if there's any way to recover the files. First, are there any good utilities for restoring accidentally deleted files? If so, where would I look for these files? Does the KDE trash config file actually correspond to a physical directory somewhere, or do the files just remain hidden in their original location?

I have just accidently deleted /usr/lib as root, how do I restore it from the trash can from command line? Seeing as how no programs will now run. I can't seem to find /root/.Trash, no such folder seems to exist ,or did I just royally screw myself?
Edit:
First off where is the Trash folder for root in Fedora 11 I have googled and looked everywhere I can't get a straight answer. It is not in /root/.Trash for one.

I am going through some old baby pictures of my daughter over 15,000+ and she is only 3 years old.....
Here is my problem. I am moving and sorting all of these and tossing some. I have several times right clicked on the trash and by mistake clicked remove from panel. Is there anyway to hide that option for the trash? I know I have done this several times before and now its happening alto with the project I am working on. It would be nice if I could disable that option.

From what I gather, there's no way to remove the Trash icon from the Unity launcher, or to hide it; is this true? I noticed that if I delete ~/.local/share/Trash, the file re-appears if I click on the Trash icon in the launcher.

I have an old hard drive w/XandrOS that I decided to make external storage. I didn't bother wiping it. I figured I could just replace files on it like .mozilla folder.I currently have OSS 11.3 where I chose to copy and paste .mozilla from OSS to external HD. I was denied access to copy over certain files. Then I made the bonehead maneuver of trashing .mozilla from the external HD. Now, my trash can says that my access is denied to "cookperm.txt" and other files. I attempted to restore it, but it can't because the new .mozilla file is the external HD.Wow, did I corner myself. I could really use some help. Just want to eliminate that old

Is there a way to remove the Computer, Trash, and Home folder from the desktop and have them just in the panel? I like a clean desktop with no icons, and would like to use the top panel as a "dock" of sorts.

I formated a second drive as ext3. Shouldn't I be able to use the GUI trash? I get an error that they must be deleted immediately. # My shared volume /dev/sdb1 (show it on desktop) UUID=e0352916-43a0-431c-bd64-08a5f3182543 /media/data ext3 rw 0 0 In another thread, someone suggested using "user" in fstab but that defaults to noexec. I don't want to be limited from executing programs. This must have worked in previous versions when ext3 was the latest/greatest right?

I'm running dual boot with Vista and Ubuntu Lucid Lynx. for few days i was running Ubuntu only, downloaded some files and created some directories. few minutes ago, i switched to Vista to see something and i wanted to burn some of the files i downloaded using Ubuntu but couldn't find those folders.
i thought maybe its related to different file system or something so i switched back to Ubuntu and surprise! my folders are not there, instead i got a file, of unknown type with the same name as the folder had! in another folder case it's was an image (some print screen of my browser screen - Mozilla) and again with the name of what was the folder! first - what the hall had happened? second - can i recover my data somehow?

I have a problem with a couple of folders in the Trash. If I click on the Trash icon, 2 foldersare there, and when I try to delete them, it just says "Failed to delete the item from the trash"
But when I go to .local/share/Trash there are no files there! Anyway, I tried using the command "sudo rm -rf .local/share/Trash", it shows no error, but the files continue when I click in the trash icon.

I want to know if there is any way that one could remove the user list from the login screen requiring the user to type in their user name. I am not quite sure why this feature is not implemented and it is one of the very few things I don't like about Lucid but hopefully there is a fix for it.

I recently ran "sudo apt-get autoremove" in the terminal and I was given an error message citing the following:
I believe this is a result of a failed Banshee Media Player installation that left the specific package installed. I ended up removing Banshee entirely. I have tried using Synaptic Package Manager and Computer Janitor to remove the package, but neither has worked, both returned the error exit status 2 message. Computer stats are in my signature.

I have a load of partitioned hard drives and even though the are refrenced in fstab I still get Bookmark Icons and they are also visable in 'Computer'How do you remove these icon?I would also like the ones not refrenced in fstab to only be mountable via password - lucid seems to just mount when you click, I did change this as in another post but it also made USB keys need a password
Code:
gksu gedit /var/lib/polkit-1/localauthority/10-vendor.d/com.ubuntu.desktop.pkla
change the ResultActive=yes to
ResultActive=auth_admin_keep

I initially downloaded Lucid as a 32 bit RC and loaded it on an old desktop to see what it looked like. As it worked a treat I downloaded the AMD64 bit final release and downloaded this to my laptop.
In each instance I loaded the restricted extras and also checked that adobe flash was loaded as flash was a problem with the BBC iPlayer before.
I can listen to the iPlayer on the 32 bit RC but not on the 64 bit final. Can anyone offer guidance on this.
PS. Trying the 32 bit RC on the laptop I was able to listen OK.

I've read many threads about the Linksys WUSB600n (both versions), and tried the suggested solutions to no avail in 32-bit Ubuntu 10.04. Compiling my own drivers, adding items to the blacklist, and even a clumsy driver transplant from 32-bit 9.10 have all failed. So here's the sitch: I have a Linksys WUSB600n v1 that works perfectly in 9.10 with only the minor modification posted by chili555 in this thread
HTML Code: [URL] That solution was: "
Code:
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
Add three lines:
Code:
blacklist rt2800usb
blacklist rt2x00usb
blacklist rt2x00lib
"
I've tried the same in a clean install of 10.04, but no connection is made and a prompt comes up every few minutes asking for the password. I've used the included rt2870 driver in 9.10 without problems. My wireless-N network uses WPA2 personal encryption, which has never given me issues. The usb id of my adapter, per lsusb, is ID 1737:0071

Another problem is that brasero leaves the locked drawer of the unit for a few minutes after erase dvd-rw media. Is there any solution to these two problems?

I just installed 10.04 and am pleased w/ things, for the most part.
However, I cannot get a DVD disc to play (a movie, for instance) or be recognized unless I shut down the system and restart (provided I have already launched a Web video, or something). The DVD-ROM is dead to the world as far as disc recognition goes.
Things were just great in Karmic so this is completely confusing to me.
Does anyone have a fix?
