I am going through some old baby pictures of my daughter over 15,000+ and she is only 3 years old.....
Here is my problem. I am moving and sorting all of these and tossing some. I have several times right clicked on the trash and by mistake clicked remove from panel. Is there anyway to hide that option for the trash? I know I have done this several times before and now its happening alto with the project I am working on. It would be nice if I could disable that option.

Is there a way to remove the Computer, Trash, and Home folder from the desktop and have them just in the panel? I like a clean desktop with no icons, and would like to use the top panel as a "dock" of sorts.
Ubuntu 10.10 x64. So I want to know is there a way to disable the "Remove From Panel" option when in the context menu "Lock To Panel" is selected in Gnome. I have taken a quick look at Ubuntu 11.04 alpha it seems this is a feature set as default, it just annoys me the now and then I will remove applets when I am not intending to do so.
When I try to add the trashbin to the panel, I get dozen icons appearing in my panel, then they go away. The same thing happens when I try to add a trash bin to my desktop.
how to use Del & Shift+Del. I need to disable Trash so every time I hit "Del" (without Shift), Gnome must ask me "Do you really want to delete the file completely?". How do I do it? Linux Mint 8, Gnome.
After an update on Ubuntu 11.04 with Gnome 3-Shell: My trash, computer, and home folder are all mounted to the desktop. I cannot find the correct spot in gconf-editor on my own to turn this off. Anyone know how to disable them?
I mistakenly moved a folder to the trash where it is stuck. I have tried moving it back to its original location using 2 methods, drag and drop, menu -edit- move. From what I gather, there's no way to remove the Trash icon from the Unity launcher, or to hide it; is this true? I noticed that if I delete ~/.local/share/Trash, the file re-appears if I click on the Trash icon in the launcher.
I have an old hard drive w/XandrOS that I decided to make external storage. I didn't bother wiping it. I figured I could just replace files on it like .mozilla folder.I currently have OSS 11.3 where I chose to copy and paste .mozilla from OSS to external HD. I was denied access to copy over certain files.Then I made the bonehead maneuver of trashing .mozilla from the external HD. Now, my trash can says that my access is denied to "cookperm.txt" and other files. I attempted to restore it, but it can't because the new .mozilla file is the external HD.Wow, did I corner myself. my pendrive has virus. So i copied folder name "untitled folder" and pasted in desktop in suse linux. the folder (untitled) contains another folder name "file system". this file system folder contains two files (1)desktop.ini (2)pagefile.exe Then i delete the "untitled" to trash. the folder vanishes in desktop and landed in trash. When i try to empty the trash, the "untitled" refuses to get deleted. How to get rid of this virus in trash. I logged in another user not in root. even I am not able to change the permission to root.
I'm rolling out Ubuntu in our call center at the moment and I'd like to disable the 'Delete Panel' functionality, I wana keep things as default as possible.
When I move something to Trash it doesn't show the option of "Empty Trash". I can use "move to Trash" and it just moving there like some ordinary folder, but shift+del give me an option for deleting the files. Using OpenSUSE 11.3 32bit.
I was wondering if it's possible to remove the gnome panel, I prefer the use of dock-lets and I don't have any use for the panel but when I remove my panel with apt en reboot my computer he seems to be unable to load gnome and I only get a terminal(or KDE desktop when installed) I didn't find another topic on this so I was wondering if it's possible to remove and if, how to achieve it.
I think all I have to do is disable gnome-panel somehow, but I wanted to check here first, so I don't screw up my computer. As it is, I have the dock working great. However, I can't just turn off the panel, which I currently have at the top of the screen.
I just upgraded to 11.04.. I use awn instead of gnome panel, but since i upgraded the gnomepanel came back (with the new launcher)How do i remove it in 11.04?
I am purging the top panel of applets I don't use (social networking, email, etc). I removed all of them via synaptic, but the envelope is still there. It doesnt do anything when i click it but its annoying to still have the icon there.
I downloaded cairo-dock and wanted my top panel to go away. I read on some other post to go into gconf-editor and I am not completely sure, but, apps>panel>something else. I didn't pay to much attention. I want it back and I just want to hide it with a really long delay which I can do no problem.
I installed Sensors Applet & hddtemp. Installation was smooth, all of my devices were automatically detected and all seemed good.Then I restart the computer, and when everything comes back up, the processor, MB, and GPU are all working (showing a temperature) but none of the (6) hard drives are showing a temperature. After fiddling around with it I found that removing the applet from the panel, and then adding it back again fixes the problem. But then the next time I restart the computer it breaks again.
does anybody know how to remove the email icon from the gnome panel? since I don't need a local email client on my ubuntu machine, I would like to remove it
i just started using cairo and its alright for the time being gonna keep using it. i switch stuff like this off and on. but i am just trying to remove the gnome panel. everything added on is removed from it but it is still there. it is definitely taking away from the cairo look i am tryin to do. anyone know how to remove this let me know the delete this panel button is grayed out.
I went to rearrange the icons on my top gnome-panel today, as some of the notification icons are displayed to the right of the power menu, and whenever I right click on any gnome panel, I get two options only 'Help' and 'About Panels' the menu options for edit, move, remove etc. are gone.
I don't really know where to start with this, as I don�t think I have tried to edit the panel since a clean install, so don't know when it was last OK.
