I have been using this release sense its release. Suspend and resume have never worked. It is now taking it's toll on this laptop. The current kernel is 2.6.32-25-generic. I just want to know if their was ever a patch or update created for this problem.

Running Logical Volume Manager gui and attempting to extend the volume results in the same error.
When I close the lid on my Macbook Pro 5,2 running Ubuntu 10.04 nothing happens.. it doesn't turn off the screen, suspend, hibernate or anything. Everything that i've looked at says to change the setting in power management but there's no option there for what to do when the lid closes. I've also checked out gconf-editor and the setting appear to be right in that... so I don't know what the issue could be.

[STOP PRESS!!] While I was clicking around, typing this forum post, the cursor has suddenly appeared, about 19 minutes after 'resume' completed.
EDIT: I found my problem--the box next to headphone box had been unticked, and I feel like a total doof for not having found that during my first two hours of trying to fix this. But I could still use some help figuring out my suspend problems issue--I've heard constantly turning a compy on and off is bad for it somehow.
A couple days ago I attempted to put my computer into suspend mode. When I used regular Ubuntu, this seldom worked. My hard drive would continue spinning, and the computer would not come out of this state until I cut the power and restarted. I thought it might be worth giving a try in Xubuntu, but I ran into the same problems, only this time, the audio would not work when I booted up.
I'm using the 64-bit version of Xubuntu, and this is a relatively fresh install (within the past two weeks) from the version 10.10 DVD, so I haven't had too much time to fudge up the settings yet, so I think it might not be entirely my fault. (: I've checked the hardware, and everything is plugged in and turned on, and I'm getting sound when I boot up Windows.
I may have done something afterwards, though. My first attempt at fixing the problem was to follow these instructions, but I really didn't understand entirely what I was doing. I tried fiddling around with the alsa mixer, but that didn't help me at all, and now it has even disappeared from the upper right-hand corner of my screen--on the toolbar. (If there's a way I could get that back and restore the default settings, [EDIT: I found alsamixer in the applications menu.]
I'd like to have audio working again, but I'm not really sure what's wrong or how to fix it. I'm still reading through Introduction to the Command Line, but as my previous attempt to solve this issue shows, I'm not smart enough to be afraid of entering commands in that I completely do not understand (yet).

A few months back, my Lenovo IdeaPad Y510 stopped connecting to my wireless network after coming out of Suspend (it had worked fine previously). Wireless networking is simply disabled, and I have to reboot in order to get it back. I tried upgrading my OS from Intrepid all the way to Lucid, but the problem persisted. I also tried changing my 00sleep_module as suggested in this thread, but to no avail.

View 6 Replies View RelatedLast night I wanted to test the suspend mode on my laptop (Asus K52J) after I had successfully used hibernation mode, which did not work until I installed the latest kernel update. Unfortunately, it didn't go very well. I had to power off the laptop manually. This morning, I booted up Fedora but it didn't go beyond the blue screen with the logo. It just kept hanging there. I rebooted and tried previous kernel configurations but none of them worked. As a matter of fact, I have to write this from Windows.
This is all rather odd since I tried to suspend before and though it never worked, the fact that I had to power off the laptop manually didn't prevent Fedora from booting. I really hate not being able to use Fedora. It's fortunate that I put all my important data on a separate NTFS partition...

I've recently upgrade ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 LTS using my system update and after it had completed installing the packages. I shut down the computer.Then after I get home, I open my computer I have found out that the system is unable to mount my filesystem. I went to manual recovery, typing in fsck -y /dev/sda1 then after it runs, it said the system is clean. So then I type control d to reboot but then it said that the system I not ready or present and I continue to wait. It seemed that there's a major issue mounting partition in my computer, I'm not sure if NTFS has any involvement.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my Karmic OS to Lucid the day after it became available and have been having some troubles - I am having trouble starting the OS. Brief history: I have real troubles with the ATI graphics and spent a while trying (finally successfully) to remove fglrx and associated dependencies. I then rebooted ready to install new drivers. I now get the following error on startup:
CIFS VFS Error connecting to socket - aborting connection
CIFS VFS cifs_mount failed w/return code (-101)
For the last couple of weeks or so, I have noticed CFS errors on shutdown which has meant that I have needed to physically press the off button to turn the machine off, but since I could still operate I left that problem on the back burner "for when I have more time". Don't know if the two problems are related. Anyway, I am currently in the situation where I cannot start Ubuntu at all unless I use the install CD and try the LIVE distro.
My fstab file looks like this:

(My PC Has a 1 TB drive and a 500 gig drive. The 1 TB drive has dual boot Vista (came preinstalled and I have a couple of games for it - else, yuk) and Linux. The 500 gig drive is a data drive). I'd rather not reinstall from scratch though may have to? I don't know of any way to repair-install the OS - maybe that would be possible too?
After a powerdown during my upgrade of Ubuntu 9.10 to Ubuntu 10.04 that rendered my operating system useless I can get to my /home folder. The /home folder is locked and can not be copied or read. This means I can't reinstall my stuff and keep my files. The rest of my data (except for the /root folder) seams to be unlocked. How can I get to my /home folder? Does anyone know how to unlock it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running my PC on Lucid. It has been working fine, but suddenly the other day I got an error message when booting, saying that Nvidia kernel module failed to load. I had to boot in low graphics mode. The only thing i can think of that had changed is that I had recently upgraded to latest Linux kernel 2.6.36-25.I have tried carefully following tips on numerous threads on this forum and others, but still no go. I have purged nvidia drivers and reinstalled nvidia-current (also tried nvidia-glx-185). However, when I then do <sudo modprobe nvidia>, I get this message:

When I go to System>Administration>Hardware Divers, it shows Nvidia-current as present but not currently activated.I have blacklisted vga16fb and nouveau in blacklist.conf, done <sudo nvidia-xconfig> etc.I am at a loss as what to do next, and am still new enough to Linux to not be in a position to fiddle to try fix it myself.
Dual boot PC, boot disk and WIN XP are on good disk, Ubuntu was installed on failed disk. (I prefer separate disks for each OS).
I know I will need to reinstall Ubuntu later, and of course, GRUB2 now crashes without the Ubuntu disk.
Confirm that the only thing I need to do when I get the new drive installed and partitioned is to boot my XP disk in Recovery Mode and type "fixmbr", (then reboot to confirm clean WIN operation on the existing disk) then install Ubuntu as normal on the new disk.
I have installed the newer kernel 2.6.35.4 and everything seems fine. To compile it, I followed this tut, [URL]. The problem I have is everytime I try to install anything, I get an error "bcmwl-kernel-source failed to install or upgrade". The installation completes for the default 2.6.32.24 generic kernel but fails for this newer kernel.
Any software I try to install now fails for the .35 with the same error. I have attached 3 screenshots showing the error message in more details hopefully. I had installed the .34 kernel and had the exact problem (screenshot.jpg). Error message is shown very clearly in third attachment, sorry I couldn't manage to copy the error and paste it.
If I suspend this toshiba satellite, and the battery is or gets low it will wake from suspend to tell me that it will need to suspend due to a critical low battery. Which is pretty dumb. I've experimented with this by plugging and unplugging the ac adapter.

I just installed Lucid off an official CD onto a Dell Inspiron 1521 and the wireless doesn't work. It worked out of the box on 9.04, which is what I was most recently using. The wired connection does not work either. I'm not sure why. I'm aware that I probably need some sort of driver for my Broadcom card. I read that I could get the drivers off the cd, and I think I did it (although possibly not correctly.) I got what I think is the correct driver, bcmwl-kernel-source, and also something called fwcutter I think maybe by accident. They both show in the Hardware Drivers list, but when I try to activate them I get "System Error: installarchives() failed". I tried using:

Just got Ubuntu 9.10 and I'm liking it a lot, but my computer refuses to go into hibernate or suspend. I have a Dell M1530 but I don't really think it's a dell hardware issue because it's not just when I close the screen, it's also when I click suspend or hibernate from the menu.

I have configured the remote installation of Fedora 13 with kickstart with nfs installation method. All work ok until I boot the Fedora 13 client system.
Fed13 client system receives the IP address from dhcp, receives the loader, loads vmlinuz and initrd.img from tftp, load anaconda, configures the network and dev eth0, mounts nfs server to load kickstart file, loads kickstart file (language...) but when it tries to mount nfs server to install from Fedora 13 installation tree it fails.

failed (code 126).
It then says an automatic fsck failed and a manual fsck must be performed, then the system restarted. I have done a manual fsck and it did nothing. I booted up the system with knoppix and did it, nothing.
Today i upgraded my system and started getting error when i update, install or remove a package. The error isn't restricted only to one repository so i thing something is wrong with my system.
