Debian :: Boot Failed - Code 126 - Fsck Failed ?

Jul 22, 2010

Booting up fails with code 126. I am greeted with the following error everyime I start up.

Checking root file system.../etc/rcS.d/S10checkroot.sh: line 174: /sbin/logsave: Permission denied
failed (code 126).

It then says an automatic fsck failed and a manual fsck must be performed, then the system restarted. I have done a manual fsck and it did nothing. I booted up the system with knoppix and did it, nothing.

Debian :: Dell Vostro 1710 - Fsck Failed During Boot

Jul 18, 2015

I have Debian Wheezy on my Dell Vostro 1710.

There is a fsck scan happening every 35 mounts on my laptop (i.e. when I boot)

It was fine until a few weeks ago when it started to fail.

Here is the error message :

What should I do to fix that ? I use my laptop to go on the Internet and I don't remember modifying/installing anything that could make this happen.

I found the answer : [URL] ....

I just had to type the root password and run fsck manually as follows : fsck /dev/sda7.

Debian :: How To Continue Booting Debian After Fsck Is Failed?

Dec 31, 2010

I have bunch of partitions on my Debian server installation, so I was experimenting with partitions and saw that is one partition fails fsck on booting time, system waits for root password or CTRL+D key combination. The problem is that my Debian machine is headless and I use only SSH to it. So if fsck fails, I can't to login to SSH (off course, because it is not loaded at this time). So I need to go with monitor and keyboard to machine and press CTRL+D.One option is to disable disk checking at startup by changing fstab file. I don't like this option. Is there any possibility to auto continue booting Debian machine ?

General :: Debian Says "fsck Failed" After Installed Pardus2009

Feb 1, 2010

I have debian testing installed on my system. I have a separate home partition which i shared with Pardus2009 which i installed later on a different partition.

Now pardus boots fine without errors, but debian says "filesystem check failed" because last mount time of / is in future. it gives a maintenance shell and after a manual fsck corrects this problem, debian reboots fine, but then says theres a problem with the /home partition (but this can be ignored)

General :: Debian Lenny Won't Startup: Failed Code 126 - Permission Denied

Dec 12, 2010

I had debian lenny running smoothly for a while, then I think the power went out and the computer didn't shutdown smoothly. The next time I started it up I ran into this error: Checking root file system.../etc/rcS.d/S10checkroot.sh: line 274: /sbin/logsave: Permission deniedfailed (code 126)This happens in single user mode as well. I've tried fscking all my partitions but it doesn't help. I've booted in bypassing the normal init and changed the permissions of /sbin/logsave to 777 and during boot I get a message of: The file system check corrected errors on the root partition but requested that the system be restarted. failed! Then the system just reboots automatically without letting me to anything.

I'm running Fedora x86_64. I need to setup a virtual machine to do some work on ARM platform. Thus, I've installed QEMU.

Code:

qemu --version
QEMU emulator version 0.13.0 (qemu-kvm-0.13.0), Copyright (c) 2003-2008 Fabrice Bellard

Then, I have dowloaded an ISO image of Debian 6.0 armel.Following instructions on official wiki, I have first created an empty disk image,

Code:

qemu-img create -f qcow debian-armel.img 650M

then I have attempted to boot from ISO image;

Code:

qemu -m 512 -hda debian-armel.img -cdrom debian-6.0.1a-armel-CD-1.iso -boot d

Boot process hangs with the message:

Code:

link refers to Fedora 12, but it seems still unresolved...

SUSE / Novell :: FSCK Failed Error After Resetting Root Password

Jun 9, 2009

We have a server for which the root password had been lost, and there were no other user accounts set up. Yesterday evening I attempted to reset the root password by booting from the install CD and using VI to clear the root password in the passwd and shadow files. I then rebooted, and the system has halted with an 'FSCK failed. Please repair manually and reboot' error, with a prompt to 'Enter root password' below. But of course the root password isn't known (I had expected it to blank after editing the passwd and shadow files, but it doesn't work), so I have no way of logging on.

I entered 'sudo fsck' at the prompt and I selected "y" to fix all the bad inodes, when it was complete it told me to restart, I then entered 'sudo restart' at the prompt and it said 'sudo uuid unknown'. I have not installed anything recently and I'm not sure what to do.

Hardware :: "Failed To Read Block" During Fsck

May 30, 2010

I woke up this morning to the horror that the ext3 partition on my 1TB drive (the only partition on this drive), in an external USB drive case, was not readable. I did some poking around on Google for related issues, and found that what worked for many was to have fsck check, and possibly fix, some errors that have occurred on the partition. This I did with the following command:

Code:

root@naglfar:/# fsck -y -C -V /dev/sdc1
fsck 1.41.4 (27-Jan-2009)
[/sbin/fsck.ext3 (1) -- /dev/sdc1] fsck.ext3 -y -C0 /dev/sdc1

Debian Installation :: Failed Wheezy To Jessie Upgrade (cannot Boot)

Aug 13, 2014

I upgraded from deb7 to deb8, but am no longer able to boot. After passing the grub boot menu, the following messages are displayed:

Code:
Select allLoading, please wait...

[   18.066215] Loading kernel module for a network device with CAP_SYS_MODULE (deprecated). Use CAP_NET_ADMIN and alias netdev- instead
_

The screen then clears and an underscore is displayed as the sole character at the top left position of the screen. The system hangs at this point. During installation, I rejected two changed files: /etc/init.d/bootlogd and /etc/libreoffice/sofficerc. For both, I opted to keep the installed version (the default choice of the installer) rather than replacing with the new version. The first might be related to the problem, although it seems to be responsible only for logging the boot process, and I would not expect this to compromise booting.

In case this information is useful, sda1 is mounted at /, sda2 is swap space, sda3 is extended, and sda5 is a logical partition mounted at /home.

I am able to boot into rescue mode, but other than that the system is not usable. Unfortunately, no useful error messages are given to aid in diagnosing the problem.

Ubuntu Installation :: Mount Exited With Code 12 - Failed To Read Last Sector

Mar 20, 2011

I am a beginner in ubuntu and only recently did i install Ubuntu 10.10 using Wubi. I am dual booting along with Windows 7 64bit. Before I got to know of Wubi, I created a free 20GB partition for installing linux. But since it was of no use, I decided to extend another partition adding this 20GB space. The problem now is that I am getting the following error while trying to access the partition.

OpenSUSE Install :: Unable To Upgrade To 11.4: Can't Resolve Host / Error Code: Connection Failed?

Apr 1, 2011

I'm currently running 11.3 and decided I'd try upgrading to 11.4 following the instructions here: SDB:System upgrade - openSUSEUnfortunately, my attempts are defeated at the point of trying to refresh the new repos; I get the following message (for the oss repo, in this case):

Download (curl) error for 'url':
Error code: Connection failed
Error message: Couldn't resolve host 'download.opensuse.org'

With 11.4 replaced by 11.3 in the repo url, it refreshes just fine. The only repository that works when I change 11.3 to 11.4 is the Packman repo. I'm not really sure why the connection fails for 11.4 but not 11.3!

Further info: I have an old router with no IPv6 support, but have IPv6 disabled system-wide. I can enter the url for the repositories into firefox and they come up just fine - it's only with zypper/YaST that I get the above error message.I also tried upgrading using the network CD but ran into the same sort of problem. In this case it may be because the CD installer doesn't disable IPv6. (I didn't want to download the DVD at my connection speed, and the KDE live CD is not listed as suitable for upgrade).
