Ubuntu Installation :: Sometime Skype Dies And It Is Impossible To Restart It In 10.04

After installing (not upgrading) Ubuntu 10.04 official release, there is a problem with skype latest version. Sometime Skype dies, and it is impossible to restart it (only killall -9, and then launching), if im trying quit all skype windows turning gray and thats all. Messages that are sending to others are not sent, and also opponents can't send messages to me. It was OK with same skype version in ubuntu 9.10.
This can't be duplicated by anything specific, but I know it's not out of RAM at this point. The console keyboard and mouse are inoperational, and the monitor display seems to be going through test patterns, which turns out to be that the monitor is trying to sync to video output which is switching on about once a second. I can ssh into the box and see that many processes that were running are no longer running, for example gnome-session... and that once per second there is a new X process invoked with a different auth-for-gem parameter, per below:
I have a computer that running Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS. Consistently after a couple hours the X desktop and GDM dies. It works fine on my other computers but this computer is an intel 2.4 GHz, 1.5 GB. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and after a recent software update, I found that my web browsers crash constantly. Firefox stays open for a few seconds and then dies and won't restart. Google Chrome keeps giving me the "Aw, Snap!" screen. Seamonkey and Epiphany run for a while and then crash. After some research, I uninstalled Flash, but that didn't change anything.On a possibly related note, I've been informed of disk errors during boot and prompted to fix them twice in the same two week period.
Am trying to set up a new system but am getting some strange behavoir. I've administered an Irix system before. I have opensuse 11.3 installed with gnome running. When i enter a bad user id in the windows login screen, the bad authentication causes the x window manager to crash and leaves the system in the ascii terminal mode login. I then have to login as root and do an init 3 , then init 5 to get the x server started again an get the windows login started. Has any one seen this behavior before and how can i fix this. Been hunting through /etc/X11/xdm to see what startup scripts could be causing this.
just installed ubuntu 10.04.1 after using ultimate for abit but having sound issues which i thought could have been os based.Sound works fine from boot and continues fine until i open options and try to configure my mic settings, i get like maybe 5 secs to make adjustments then all my sound dies totally. The icon then shows as speaker with 3 lines next to it and within the configuration for sound my mic hardware vanashes. I cannot get any sound until i restart my computer and so cannot use apps like skype which i do tend too use alot.
I ve installed ubuntu 10.10 on hp g62 amd64, but on skype mic doesnt work. I ve tried playing with pulseaudio controller and everything is unmuted as well as in alsamixer. how can I solve it? i think there is some problem with alsa, because when i restart skype mic work by few minutes but after that not.
Downloaded few minutes ago Fedora 15 live x64 and used Fedora live usb creator to make my usb drive bootable.Once configured correctly my bios Syslinux starts but it hangs on the startup message
I have just finished the upgrade of the latest version and I'm at the point of my system restating.
My system automatically tried to restart but on the restart I got the 'terminal' view. It stopped when asking for my username (it never normally asks for this before the grub menu) and then password. I didn't get any further than that.
I now have on my screen (still in the terminal view before the grub menu)

I installed 10.04 Server. Then I did an apt-get install Ubuntu-desktop. The display is black. The monitor is receiving no signal (amber led). I believe that the install has stopped, but what am I supposed to do.?
Installed Fedora 10 86x64 from ISO burned to a DVD. Installation went ok, and computer needed to be rebooted at the end of the installation. Upon restart, Fedora 10 loaded to initial setup screen where user name, date, time, etc are set. At the end, as this is a stand-alone computer, the setup requests to send data of computer setup to Fedora.org and this request has to be denied. Pressing the Finish button ends up killing the system. The system doesn't reboot, what does happen is that the screen goes to black, and no signal is given to the monitor; the system hangs at this state. I've tried to see if giving the setup the ability to send the system data would change the end state upon pressing Finish, but nothing changes.
I try to install Debian 8 on my desktop PC that has a wireless network card.I had already used this computer with debian 7 and I could use my problem-free network connection.
My network card is : Asus PCE-N10
During the installation, a message occured to ask me to load a firmware (rtlwifi/rtl8192cfw.bin) which is loaded from a USB key.After this, Debian-installer seems to find my wireless card but can not find wireless network.I have this message, translated from French: "The search for an available wireless network failed" and I can enter an ESSID but inconclusive.
I downloaded the 6.06 version of xubuntu because i have a laptop that doesnt support high graphics mode, and i wasnt able to figure out how to get it to run in low graphics mode. i figured that i would get a version from a while back, and then update it up to the current version. now, to the problem. I was able to upgrade 6.10, but now it says Ubuntu version 8.04 available, so i tried to update it. it gets most of the way through the part where it says calculating or something like that, and then it says: "Can't install 'xubuntu-desktop' It was impossible to install a required package. Please report this as a bug." with an option that says close at the bottom. when i click close another window pops up that says: Could not calculate the upgrade A unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade. This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
If none of this applies, then please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bugreport. Then the window just closes... anything that i could do to get rid of this problem? EDIT: Is there any way to update directly from an .iso file on the desktop?

After installing 10.04 netbook remix on my acer aspire one, I have experienced all sorts of trouble. I can't get online, not with the wireless network, or with a usb-cable directly from the router. When I try to install the hardware drivers i get a message: there are no hardware drivers installed or something like that. There are no other OS on the harddrive, just 10.04 netbook remix. Another problem is the startup. Sometimes it boots right away, other times I've have to restart/reboot. 3-4 times before it works. How comes? Is there any way to download the missing packages/firmware to a usb-stick and then install it on the the netbook?
I recently bought a IOgear USB bluetooth adapter and a Sony DRBT101/BLK bluetooth headphones to use with my computer.Whenever I try to make a call using these headphones with skype, I can speak for say 10 seconds and then the headset disconnects completely from the system. I then have to reconnect the headset by switching it off and on. I do not have this problem listening to music using A2DP. It works fine with my mobile phone.When I change the profile to Telephony Duplex (HSP/HFP), it shows up as hands free, I thought it should be headset in blueman manager. My friend uses Plantronics headset with is Dell laptop with built in bluetooth and he says his comes up as headset not hands free. Could this be causing the problem?
after upgrading to lucid very often a shutdown is impossible if I try to nothing happens. I have to open a terminal and enter "sudo halt". If you just enter "halt" you get "need to be root".
I am setting up my shortcuts on Ubuntu (System -> Preferences -> Keyboard Shortcuts) and there is no way to remove a shortcut. On the bottom of the screen says "(...) or press space to clear.", however, it doesn't work.The only way I found to remove a shortcut was to set up another shortcut with its keys, so it will be disabled.

Since 2 days, when I type the lowercase 'a' letter in a terminal, nothing is written (it's not the case for the uppercase 'A' letter). The matter appears with all terminal's software (guake, Terminal, xterm...). The only way for me to type the 'a' letter is to type 'Insert' key before. I tried many solutions but the matter is still here. Here, there is some clarifications and some solutions I tried: -If I copy and paste a text, 'a' don't appears. For example, if i try to copy and paste 'sudo apt-get install' 'sudo pt-get instll' will appears -The matter appears 2 days ago. Before that, I removed the .gconf file -It's not a fresh installation of ubuntu but an update from karmic to lucid. When i was under karmic, I was using KDE. Then I did an upgrade, then I tried Xubuntu and Lubuntu and finally I moved to Ubuntu. The first week under Ubuntu (Gnome) was without any matter and 2 days ago, this matter appeared.
-I tried this following command line: xmodmap -pke >fichier.conf and the file called "fichier.conf" (I'm french) contains this line: keycode 24 = a A a A ae AE ae AE
-When I type this line: printf "x61 " a 'a' appears in my terminal.
-In tty1 and all the other programs, 'a' appears without any trouble
-I tried with other users in my computer but the matter is still the same no matter wich user I use.
-I tried to change fonts of my environment and I also tried to change fonts only for the terminal but whithout success.
Currently i'm using a HP 6735b laptop. Everything is fine just one problem which is ATI driver. This one gave me:
1. Impossible to start up Kubuntu, they show welcome screen and stuck for century. LiveCD version of Kubuntu and KDE environment via Ubuntu is fine (since i already installed ATI driver).
2. Without ATI driver, whenever i unplug my A/C power the computer will be frozen. After installed driver everything will be fine.
What kind of problem is that, compatible with ATI or serious bug. Karmic Koala 9.10 is absolutely perfect.
i've just installed ubuntu and loving it so far. i've just tried to access videos and have been prompted to install adobe flash player - which i am finding impossible, do i download the apt or .deb file, i've tried both and i just dont understand how it works.
I've been tinkering around with Linux over the past couple weeks. I've played arodn with both Ubuntu 10.10 and Linux Mint 10 and it's been a 99% positive experience. I have noticed an issue regarding my internet connection.
I've noticed when I download a file in Ubuntu (either from the software manager, BitTorrent or just a regular download in Firefox), browsing the web on my computer becomes near impossible. The download itself runs at a good speed for our DSL connection (around 200 KB/sec) but anything else near a standstill. Just loading ESPN.com on my PC can take a minute or two. Someone else playing a game in the house will go from a regular 100-200 ms ping to 5000+ right when the download starts. When I stop the download, internet browsing and gaming speeds go right back to normal.
The weird thing is the same thing happened when I installed Linux Mint 10. When I boot into my Vista partition, this isn't an issue. Downloading a file in Vista doesn't affect anything, but it's happening every time in both Ubuntu and Linux Mint.
I want to right-click on the desktop and open a terminal. I have spent HOURS trying to find a way to do this, and I cannot. What am I missing?When I right click, the "standard menu" opens up and I don't know how to add items to this menu
I have a suspend problem in my laptop. Sometimes, when resuming from suspend, the network adapter is down (that is, the network does not work and the light of the network adapter is off). Restarting the network service doesn't work, because I think that the system forgot about the hardware, and probably the driver should be reloaded.Does anyone knows how to do that?(ps. /etc/init.d/networking restart does not work, because the hardware driver is not being recognized anymore).
