Jan 21, 2011
After seeral attempts to load Ubuntu 10.19,I ourchased anew dis in case downloaded one was faulty.I load the disc in and it starts loading.I then get sveral "gnome"errors displayed.I clck to "not delete"and it then contiinues to loadI get a sreen up to select "language",eventually I get the "forward" which I click. It then appears to start loading. However it is still in this state seven hours later.
I have noticed that prior to start loading the title says "Debian 4.1" is this correct or is this in my PC.Should I be using another disc to wipe this out???? is this the unrecoverable error?
I used Ubuntu debian 4.1for a number of years,I felt I need to upgrade to 10.10 and now have lots of problem.Should I have :-
i'm not able to play music at all. videos videos seem to crash my browser and using either rhythmbox or banshee they crash too.i ran rhythmbox by typing sudo rhythmbox and tried to play a file and it displayed a pop-up window saying that my autioaudiosink element is missing and the terminal displayed this:
code: (rhythmbox:8415): rhythmbox-warning **: unable to grab media player keys: could not get owner of name 'org.gnome.settingsdaemon': no such name warning: unhandled message: interface=org.freedesktop.dbus.introspectable, path=/, member=introspect
I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 but while completing installation at the point when we remove installation CD from drive and go to press enter to restart the system, I saw this error:[2993.693601] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 537844 like this line there were so many line displayed the I pressed enter the PC got restarted and now Ubuntu running as nothing happened. But I couldn't understand what was that error and how much serious it was.
i upgraded to ubuntu 9.10 from 9.04 today .but after upgrading so many errors crept in . and these are following .. 1. Original login screen of ubuntu 9.10 is not being displayed. 2.By mistake i removed volume control and network connection applet from upper pannel.so can any one tell me how to re organise the pannel...and get back those two applets or can any one tell me how to completely recover the upper pannel.
Got Ubuntu 10.10 amd64 installed.. I've been using Fedora 13 64bit for some time now dual boot with WinXP.. Ubuntu installation to a free Hard drive went well till i rebooted, my Fedora installation was gone , and i thought Ubuntu is much installer friendly than fedora.
My ATI card which has 512 MB only shows up as being 256 in Ubuntu-- what's up with this -- and -- how do you now tweak your xorg setting in ubuntu 10.10
I have installed Ubuntu 8 within window 7. But when system starts, it does not promote for OS selection. By Pressing F12 on booting, i came to OS selection, but windows 7 is only listed, not ubuntu. As per my friend help, i checked msconfig-->boot, but it also list windows 7 only. The same ubuntu i have installed earlier within windows Xp. but in windows 7 it produce issue like this.
Initially when I upgraded to Lucid I uninstalled openJDK and switched back to sun-java5 packages due to some application support limitations. Now I have to upgrade to sun-java6- packages. I removed the sun-java5 packages and installed the sun-java6 packages. Including the sun-java6-plugin.
I can see the plugin in aboutlugins in Firefox 3.6.10 however nothing (like webex or applets) related to java works. As a workaround I have used the Icedtea plugin which comes with open JDK and that seems to work. However I want to get the sun-java6-plugin working.
I am trying to install ubuntu in a machine in which XP was already installed. The GRUB is not displayed and MS Windows is runing immediately after first screen.I installed these drives' mount points
/ as primary /boot logical /home logical
I would like to not waste time with experiments, and different tutorials are not clear and coherent about primary , logical and mounting points.
i have a pc having OS Windows XP and Windows 7 installed (hd0,0 and hd0,1). Yesterday i installed Debian 6(hd0,5). But it doesn't show boot menu on startup. It automatically load GRUB and start loading Debian. While i m on GNOME or KDE i can see all the files of windows XP n 7. Is any way to rescue and boot with Windows??? And yah one more thing ... i also dont have menu.lst file in /boot/grub/.
The following are the output of command "ifconfig -a":
[Code]....
The interface "eth0", which is down, was not displayed, but loopback interface has been displayed. So, how can I make my application display all interfaces, including the interfaces which are down, but excluding the loopback interface?
When i boot its all ok i press enter for instal ubuntu and than the normal screen When it finishes loading i get a random mashup of my windows desktop.
I've a folder named "lynx" in my desktop . It contains ebooks - pdfs, chms etc . The problem is sometimes when i open the folder in nautilus , the folder keep loading forever and sometimes it shows two or three files and keep on loading . But at some other times , folder contents are displayed just as any other folder(i.e normal ).
So, the quick and dirty: I installed Ubuntu 8.04 early last year and stuck with it until some of the bugs had been worked out of 9.10, after which I did a clean installation of it. During installation, I remember being asked about keeping a back-up for my previous 8.04 installation and I selected yes (figuring better safe than sorry). So, despite uninstalling 8.04 within Vista before installing 9.10, I now (oddly) am able to boot into either Vista, Ubuntu 8.04 OR Ubuntu 9.10. Aesthetics aside, I don't much care that 8.04 is still present. Installing 9.10 complicated the bejesus out of my boot process though. It currently boots as such:
First screen options: Ubuntu 8.04 Ubuntu 8.04 (safe)
I have pear installed, but I'n not sure I have it configured properly.
When I do a phpinfo(), no where are the settings for pear (meaning where it's located). If I recalled there is supposed to be a setting displayed there for PEAR.
I have installed fedora 13 in my system. httpd server is also installed. when I tried to start the service of httpd, following error message displayed: Starting httpd: (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:80
I installed Drupal and there is only one site. It I access the website [url] where Drupal is installed I can easily see it functioning properly. But on internet it is not loading properly the colors etc are not visible properly.
I installing Fedora 12. I did ALL the same as in the installation guide, GRUB installed into MBR. And after installation and rebooting - nothing happens, after BIOS messages there is nothing - computer hangs. GRUB seems to be not installedI have 2 hard disks. At first I tried to install on the 2-nd drive(it is slave). Afterward I detach one disk and try with only one hard disk(it is master). Nothing changes - computer hangs.
I recently re-installed my dead home server with Ubuntu 9.10 Server but it seems that there is a large delay loading grub, before the error "error: no such disk" comes up and the Ubuntu finally boots normally. I've videoed it, see what I mean at http://www.......com/watch?v=0H7hsa5QIc0 .
What would be causing this error and how would I go about fixing it?
After my 2nd attempt to install from a CD my screen is now blank, my cooling fan is on full blast, and my hard drive light is on! Tried another hard drive from a different machine running Windows XP and the same thing happens. Also tried loading the ISO CD again but it won't read that as well.
I just completed an on-line upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10.
Everything went according to plan and the upgrade seemed to go without a hitch. However, when I rebooted following the finish of the process, the system would not start. After a short spell of disk activity, everything stopped and I was left staring at a blank screen - not even a blinking cursor in sight.
Fortunately, I had kept my original installation on a separate partition and this boots OK from the GRUB menu.
Just recently, I've run into a problem with VLC.Whenever I clicked on it, it never loaded up. Sometimes a tab of it would appear for a split second, but it would immediately vanish. I assumed it was something wrong with the program itself so I went to the Synaptic Package Manager to uninstall and re-install it, unfortunately, it seems to have the same problem! So I figured maybe I should just update Ubuntu and then discovered my update manager won't update anything, it's broken too.
Ive recently upgrade Ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04 using inbuilt software upgrade centre. Everything downloaded and ran as it should until the system did its initial 11.04 boot when it tried to load and locked up at the UBUNTU title screen (the one with the 5 dots!). If I press the power button on my laptop, Ubuntu then powers off as it should do! The odd thing is, if on the GRUB screen I select "Previous Linux Versions" and then select; "Ubuntu, with Linux 2.6.38-11-generic",
it loads Ubuntu 11.04 correctly and works correctly! It only locks up if I leave it to automatically select the initial entry on the GRUB screen; "Ubuntu, with Linux 2.6.38-11-generic-pae" How can I solve this problem, as I would like it to load the working 11.04 automatically?
I'm using ubuntu 9. For some weird reason, sometimes when i log in only the ubuntu logo shows up. It says "Grub loading" and then the logo appears, but the harddrive isn't accessed. After about 2 minutes, the logo disappears and the screen goes blank. I have to shut down the computer manually. The weird thing is, it only happens every so often..about every other boot up.
Here's my problem, i have 1 Ubuntu cd, (8.10, free cd), 1x 9.10 32 bit from a friend, and a 64bit 9.10 from a friend. Also i have downloaded 9.10 64bit ISO, (making sure the md5 was correct)This is what ive tried: - Installing inside windows, cd - Installing inside windows, iso mounted - Installing via cd on boot - Installing via usb on boot- Booting from cd/usb, like testing, and install from that (but got to loading screen..)Ive tried the above with all the Ubuntu's mentioned.Yet all have got to the Loading screens and just stopped. With the USB one, once (it had casper on it?), it had errors such as IO, memory buffers etcSo why doesnt either 32 or 64 bit work on my system, is there something i missed?
I have a serious problem with my computer. I had once shut down my windows forcefully( i.e. using the button) and now i am now not able to login to windows again. I tried installing linux from the booting cd but was not possible also. Now when I start my computer I get an error message. What to do?
I use to have vista and ubuntu on my PC. Yesterday accidentally I created a new partition "table" the point is that I erased all my partitions on "MyDisk". After a while I decided to re-install ubuntu ( 9.10 karmic koala ) and take advantage of the situation and upgrade to Windows7. Since I already had the ubuntu cd, I installed it first, then downloaded the Win7 cd to install it. The problem is that Windows7 installer doesn't load.
All I get is: <<BLACK SCREEN>> Grub loading. <<BLACK SCREEN>> underscore Ubuntu logo ubuntu login
So I don't know whats wrong. Right now my disk looks like this: MyDisk > MyDisk1 ntfs ( For windows 7 ) MyDisk2 > extended (using linux with 2 more partitions: ext4 and linux-swap)
For months Ive been having problems with SWF files (Bloons tower defense 4 - online game) not showing / loading up. I have removed SWFDEC from my PC (Ubuntu)..
The game DOES go now
However - when I try 7move a piece (Put a new weapon on the sxcreen - The picture doesn't stay where I put it (& doesn't shoot the bloons...). I can press 'start' & the bloons do move around the screen - but I can't shoot them.
