I've had this happen three times and only since a firefox update yesterday. When I try to shutdown using the shutdown icon on my desktop, it goes to the splash screen and there it sits.
When I shutdown via terminal, it closes down just fine.
Has anyone else experienced this or have any other suggestions? I will undo that update tomorrow being that i need a break from the computer screen.
12.2 is up to date and am running the Firefox from Slackbuilds. There was an update to FF a few months ago. Since then FF "hangs" when I close it out. It does seem to shut down better from the home page instead of whatever site I happen to be on at the time of shutting down. I do have a few addons to FF but they were there before the update with no issues. The addons are Gmarks [disabled], Rankchecker, Scribefire, SEO for FF [disabled], SEO Toolbar, Weatherbug and Web Developer. I haven't done any "fixes" so I'm fairly certain I didn't create my own problem.

View 6 Replies View RelatedThere's some bug or other error in the updates I've just installed. I run Update Manager very frequently (almost daily). The last time I ran it was 2 days ago, so this bug can only have been released into updates today or yesterday. I ran it this evening and there were quite a lot of new updates (around 50mb in total), and I installed them all without really checking to see what they were - but as I'm new to Linux I don't exactly have any weird or rare software running on my laptop, so they only would have been for Ubuntu itself or some very common programs.
After installing it required a reboot. Upon booting up again, the volume icon has turned to 'Mute All' and I am unable to turn my laptop off. Telling it to shut down simply causes the screen to go black for a couple of seconds and then return to the login screen. I also notice that the Suspend/Hibernate options have disappeared, and I now only have the option to Log Out, Restart or Shut Down. {As I'm new to Linux I have no idea how best to proceed, or even how to officially 'report' this if indeed it is a bug contained in one of the updates.}
Browser FF within 10.04 suffers some kind of dilemma! Despite of giving it a shutdown(The X), it continues to stay in the Task bar with "Starting Firefox Web Browser". I cannot invoke it since it continues to remain stick with Task bar!

I'm on Hardy, and I tried to completely remove the firefox package using Synaptic, and re-installing it, and I always get the same error. Maybe it might have something to do with ubuntuzilla? I know I used that a while back to install Firefox 3.5/3.6, since the only one I was getting from the package manager was 3.0. Anyway, here is the error:

This morning my Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy box was all Hardy. The Update Manager told me to install some updates, which included a Firefox 3.6.6 update. That update failed to install, and now I everytime I click on the panel launcher or go to "Applications," then "Internet" and then "Firefox" I get the following error: Could not launch menu item Failed to execute child process "firefox" (No such file or directory)

I ran the update manager a few weeks ago and for whatever reason, it downgraded me from Firefox 3.6 to Namoroka (Firefox 3.6 beta release from what I understand). Having had Namoroka before, and knowing how unstable it was, I immediately removed it and reinstalled Firefox 3.5 from Linuxappfinder.com. Upon this last update, Ubuntu again downgraded me from Firefox 3.5 to Namoroka. I am worried about updating my other computer because of this problem.

After an update firefox doesn't load anymore. Whenever I try to install anything apt-get fails and warns me about broken firefox packages. It is mentioning firefox branding and chrome something (the latter seems to have gone away after I removed firefox via synaptic) apt-get install -f fails also.

Since then, Firefox starts and runs fine the first time. Close it down and later try to restart, error says that Firefox is already using that profile and will need to quit it before proceeding.
System Monitor then shows that firefox and firefox-bin are still loaded (although nothing in the gnome app tray at bottom of screen). Jill those 2 processes and Firefox loads normally.
Should I wait this out and see if later updates cure this? Reinstall Firefox? Submit a report to launchpad?
F11 just updated Firefox to 3.5.2 and now lightning doesn't work as an add on. Anyone know :

just tried to install today's Firefox 4 update but fails, either using Fedora's default installer or Yumex.The download and installation seem to take place successfully but it don't,with the update remaining "available" in the update tools. I just ran a manual installation and this is what I got:

Firefox 3.6 "Namoroka" stopped working after a recent update. Clicking on my panel launcher or the launcher in the applications menu does nothing. I even tried starting Firefox from the terminal and got an error message: "(firefox-bin:3592): GLib-WARNING **: g_set_prgname() called multiple times", whatever that means.I would be willing to rip out Firefox and start all over again but I don't know how to remove the 3.6 version. I couldn't find a method in the Software Center for doing that graphically.

Google chrome tells me that the site may be temporarily down and Opera informs me that the connection has been closed by the remote server.
Under karmic I had a standard lamp server installed and everything worked fine.

Firefox auto update keeps failing so...I need help locating the original installation location.
I tried downloading the update and using archive manager to open rather than save, but still it wanted to save. Now I can't find the location it selected.
I want to locate the downloaded saved and delete the new files, to conserve space.

I found a folder named firefox and another firefox 3.0 System will not let me delete / move to trash.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just recently installed slackware 13.37 as a fresh install. In firefox, I currently only have the flashplayer plugin installed, no themes, no other add-ons. Firefox will open fine the first time, however after I close it and try to open it again, I get a message saying that firefox is already running and the process must be closed before another session can be opened. Looking through the open processes, firefox-bin still shows open. I can kill -9 firefox-bin and restart firefox, but then I have the same problem after close. I have deleted my .mozilla folder, which did not help and I have deleted the libflashplayer.

View 4 Replies View RelatedA few days ago an upgrade to FF 3.6.3 was pushed at me by Mandriva. I accepted it, of course.
Since then, firefox refuses to restart after a shutdown, and there are no error messages in any log or in the bash window if I try to start it that way.
I tried a couple of times to uninstall/reinstall it, but no joy.
Finally figured out that if I reloaded the .mozilla directory in my home directory from a daily backup, FF would restart.
This suggests that FF 3.6.3 is corrupting something either while it is running or when it shuts down.
It's pretty consistent, and makes it rather hard to use FF. The lack of error messages is making it rather difficult to sort out.
After several site:centos.org searches on Google and not finding anything remotely related to this question, I ask, how do I update Firefox 3.0 to Firefox 3.5 without losing any of my settings, history, bookmarks ,etc.?

View 5 Replies View RelatedIt seems that I will get slackware working fine, just the way I want, and after I turned it off and turned it back on, Firefox and Pidgin refused to run because something was missing that was there before.
After uninstalling them both, and then realizing that the package was somehow uninstalled without me knowing, I reinstalled it in case anything else needed it. That was yesterday, and now today I woke up and started the computer, trying to use Konqueror. Strangely, there's no wireless internet, so I tried to use wicd and it just doesn't start. just ran the obligatory kernel update for Karmic 9.10 and now my computer doesn't shut down when prompted to do so. It tries...goes through the logoff, makes all the motions and then hangs at the very end.

View 6 Replies View RelatedA while ago, I was applying the new kernel updates (I guess 2.6.32-24, or the one after it.. well, the latest generic update) and accidentally powered off my laptop. And now it wont come up. It comes to the logon page, and neither the keyboard, nor the mouse work. Cant even switch to the TTYs. When I boot with the recovery mode, I just see a black screen (probably the TTYs dont work) but after "processing" some time, nothing happens. Not sure if the keyboard works, as I cannot turn on/off the capslock switch, but ctrl+alt+del works
