Ubuntu :: Firefox Retains Session Information On Shutdown?

Jun 28, 2011

I've been beating my head against this one for a few months.I have FF set to start show a blank page at startup - yet it remembers all my previous sessions instead. I've been through the about:config page to try and fix it, but it still won't start fresh after a shutdown.

Ubuntu Installation :: Use Grub2 To Have Live Usb That Retains Changes?

May 22, 2010

I have used grub2 to be able to boot multiple iso files on a flash drive as per this thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1484582

Is there any way to add a persistent installation of 10.04 to this flash drive, similar to what the startup disc creator application can do? I'd like to be able to have the clean installation and the persistent installation plus the other tools that I have on the flash drive. It's an 8 gb drive so there is ample room.

OpenSUSE :: Can't Shutdown After Configuring The Session Manager?

Aug 16, 2009

I use:
OpenSuse 11.1 with KDE.

I wish: no session restoring on login and no confirmation dialog on logout i.e. OpenSuse should never ask me, if I click on shutdown and always start with new session.

I do: So, in System Settings -> Advanced-Tab -> Session Manager I choose follow options:

General:
NO Confirm Logout
NO Offer shutdown option

On Login:
YES Start with an empty session

Default shutdown option:
YES Turn off computer
(finally, it goes disabled)

The problem is:Now I can't shutdown my computer by clicking the Shutdown in main menu. I can click it hundred times nothing happens. Could anybody explain me, why???

As an experiment:If I choose YES Confirm Logout and click the Shutdown, I will see the confirmation dialog, but with only one option - Logout.

Slackware :: Telinit 4 - Kdm - Open Console Session Prevents Shutdown - 64 13.37

Jun 4, 2011

I have a question regarding runlevels, shutdown procedure and KDM. I am on a freshly installed Slackware64 13.37 multilib system. The default runlevel in /etc/inittab is set to 3: multiuser w/o X.

Now, I log in as root and issue the command:

Code:

As expected, KDM starts up, and I log in to KDE (or another WM/DE) as a normal users. When I am finished, I either issues

Code:

In Konsole or click on Shutdown in the KDE menu. The shutdown process is initiated, as expected, but then it stops, and a window alerts me, that there is a session open by user 'root'. If I click OK, the machine is finally shut down.

Now, if I interpret this correctly, the behaviour of Slackware64 13.37 has changed here, compared to 13.1. In previous versions, the root seesion was closed, when I changed the runlevel to 4 with the telinit command. Now, the session remains open, obviously.

My question is: Is this the correct behaviour, and isn't this a security whole? An unnoticed (!) open root session while I am surfing the web as an unprivileged user in KDE could be dangerous, I think...

Is it misconfiguration in my system, or is this the way it should be?

Ubuntu :: Firefox Won't Restore Session

Dec 3, 2010

recently Firefox/Minefield started to stop loading sites after some time and when exiting Firefox, the process would keep running in the background, so I have to kill it. When I did this yesterday, Firefox no longer restored my tabs from last session like usual. There's a sessionstore.bak in my profile folder whose size is 1.3 MB and seems to be intact.

Still, when renaming it to sessionstore.js, Firefox will still not load my tabs - it just displays the start page. This applies to both Firefox 3.6 and Minefield. I tried a sessionstore backup from five days ago, but the result is the same. Is there anything else I need to do to get Firefox to restore my tabs? Session restore in general does not seem to be broken, because when I open a few new tabs and save them, they are restored the next time I start Firefox.

Ubuntu :: Install Firefox Add-on To Guest Session At Login?

Jun 7, 2010

Adding Firefox add-ons to Guest Session?I wanted to include Add-on to Ubuntu Guest Session Firefox. Is there a proper or better way to do this? Procedure I used was as follows

1. Login to Ubuntu to a user account with sudo privileges (later sudoer account).

1. Switch to Guest Session

2. Install relevant Add-ons

3. Check what the home folder of the Guest Session is. It should be something like /tmp/guest-home.xxxxxx where xxxxxx = six random characters.

4. Switch to sudoer account

5. Open terminal and type

Code:

gksudo nautilus

[code]....

I tested this with Flashblock and it seemed to work. I also admit that since I did the thing for the first time it was not that straight forward for me, but above procedure should work. With quick Googling I was unable to find straight forward method. There is a way to install Add-ons to all users from command line using -install-global-extension but this was not what I wanted to do. I wanted the Add-on just for the temporary guest account.

Slackware :: Firefox-bin Will Not Shutdown In 13.37

Jul 20, 2011

I just recently installed slackware 13.37 as a fresh install. In firefox, I currently only have the flashplayer plugin installed, no themes, no other add-ons. Firefox will open fine the first time, however after I close it and try to open it again, I get a message saying that firefox is already running and the process must be closed before another session can be opened. Looking through the open processes, firefox-bin still shows open. I can kill -9 firefox-bin and restart firefox, but then I have the same problem after close. I have deleted my .mozilla folder, which did not help and I have deleted the libflashplayer.

Software :: Firefox Will Not Restart After Shutdown?

Apr 21, 2010

A few days ago an upgrade to FF 3.6.3 was pushed at me by Mandriva. I accepted it, of course.

Since then, firefox refuses to restart after a shutdown, and there are no error messages in any log or in the bash window if I try to start it that way.

I tried a couple of times to uninstall/reinstall it, but no joy.

Finally figured out that if I reloaded the .mozilla directory in my home directory from a daily backup, FF would restart.

This suggests that FF 3.6.3 is corrupting something either while it is running or when it shuts down.

It's pretty consistent, and makes it rather hard to use FF. The lack of error messages is making it rather difficult to sort out.

Slackware :: Firefox Hangs After Update - Better Shutdown At Homepage

Jun 15, 2010

12.2 is up to date and am running the Firefox from Slackbuilds. There was an update to FF a few months ago. Since then FF "hangs" when I close it out. It does seem to shut down better from the home page instead of whatever site I happen to be on at the time of shutting down. I do have a few addons to FF but they were there before the update with no issues. The addons are Gmarks [disabled], Rankchecker, Scribefire, SEO for FF [disabled], SEO Toolbar, Weatherbug and Web Developer. I haven't done any "fixes" so I'm fairly certain I didn't create my own problem.

Slackware :: Packages Disappearing At Shutdown - Firefox And Pidgin Refused To Run?

Dec 19, 2010

It seems that I will get slackware working fine, just the way I want, and after I turned it off and turned it back on, Firefox and Pidgin refused to run because something was missing that was there before.

After uninstalling them both, and then realizing that the package was somehow uninstalled without me knowing, I reinstalled it in case anything else needed it. That was yesterday, and now today I woke up and started the computer, trying to use Konqueror. Strangely, there's no wireless internet, so I tried to use wicd and it just doesn't start. I try again from the terminal and I get this:

[Code]....

ImportError: /usr/lib/libdbus-glib-1.so.2: undefined symbol g_variant_new_double So I went and used slackpkg and it seems that libdbusmenu was uninstalled too. I really don't understand what's going on here. It's pretty annoying because without wicd I can't even use an ethernet connection, so the computer is basically useless to me at this point.

But , why does it not happpen in the case of cluster? Is there any other way of completely turning off the nodes from the master terminal ?

Programming :: Hashing The Components Of An Tcp Session To Assign/locate The Session In A Hash Table Bucket?

Nov 10, 2010

I have a very bad attempt at hashing the components of an tcp session to assign/locate the session in a hash table bucket. I am pretty sure that it has a very high collision rate and when there are a very large number of tcp sessions my application is having to search a long linked list to find the session within the bucket.

All the hashing functions I have found take a single string input where I need to input several integers and hash them into a single result. My guess is that any real hashing function is going to produce better results than what I am currently doing.

CentOS 5 :: Writing 2nd Session Of Multi-session DVD?

Jan 22, 2010

I am putting together some new systems for my customer and I'm having some trouble with a script that we use to back up files to a DVD R. The problem is that I can't write a 2nd session to the DVD unless I eject the disk and reload it. The drives are slimline type drives, Sony BD-5730S and Teac DV-W28S-V93, so they won't reload without human intervention. Opsys is CentOS 5.4 or RHEL 5.4. I've tried both AMD and Intel based mother boards. If i try this on Fedora 11 or 12 it works fine. This works on IDE attached drives but not a SATA attached drives. Fedora appears to use something called genisoimage instead of mkisofs. I can't get genisoimage to run on CentOS or RHEL.

Here's the code to setup the test files:

rm -f /tmp/BDtest/*
mkdir /tmp/BDtest
dd if=/dev/zero of=/tmp/BDtest/blank.iso bs=10M count=1
for NUM in {1..160}

Ubuntu Servers :: Restrict User Session Numbers And Allow Resuming Previous User Session?

Jun 30, 2010

I am currently in a project to set up an LTSP server with 10 thin clients. I am using Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic).

Installing server and booting clients are working fine. Now, according to the need, I have to restrict user session numbers and allow resuming previous user session.

I have achieved to do the first one, but still could not able to setup the second one. As per requirement, if some thin can have power failure, the same session should be restored back. I am confused here, if I need to focus on saving xsessions or saving gnome sessions. I am looking for a concrete solution as I am running out of time.
