View 4 RepliesRecently I have installed Fedora 10. It comes with firefox 3.xx by default. Now I was wondering if there is any way through which i can update it to 3.5 version though yum. I have tried yum update firefox but it did not work and returns following messages Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit Setting up Update Process No Packages marked for Update I know that one way to update is download the latest Tar package and use it, but I want to totally remove my previous installation and use solely one package i.e. firefox 3.5.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been having problems with the Update Manager ever since it tried to install an update for firefox a few days ago. I'm on Hardy, and I tried to completely remove the firefox package using Synaptic, and re-installing it, and I always get the same error. Maybe it might have something to do with ubuntuzilla? I know I used that a while back to install Firefox 3.5/3.6, since the only one I was getting from the package manager was 3.0. Anyway, here is the error:
E: /var/cache/apt/archives/firefox_3.6.3+nobinonly-0ubuntu1~mfs~hardy2_i386.deb: trying to overwrite `/usr/bin/firefox', which is also in package firefox-mozilla-build
I can't make heads or tails of this
This morning my Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy box was all Hardy. The Update Manager told me to install some updates, which included a Firefox 3.6.6 update. That update failed to install, and now I everytime I click on the panel launcher or go to "Applications," then "Internet" and then "Firefox" I get the following error: Could not launch menu item Failed to execute child process "firefox" (No such file or directory)
Note: When running Firefox from Terminal:
Code:
jonathan@ubuntu-desktop:~$ firefox
The program 'firefox' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing:
sudo apt-get install firefox-3.0
bash: firefox: command not found

I've had this happen three times and only since a firefox update yesterday. When I try to shutdown using the shutdown icon on my desktop, it goes to the splash screen and there it sits.
When I shutdown via terminal, it closes down just fine.
Has anyone else experienced this or have any other suggestions? I will undo that update tomorrow being that i need a break from the computer screen.
I ran the update manager a few weeks ago and for whatever reason, it downgraded me from Firefox 3.6 to Namoroka (Firefox 3.6 beta release from what I understand). Having had Namoroka before, and knowing how unstable it was, I immediately removed it and reinstalled Firefox 3.5 from Linuxappfinder.com. Upon this last update, Ubuntu again downgraded me from Firefox 3.5 to Namoroka. I am worried about updating my other computer because of this problem.
View 9 Replies View RelatedFirefox refuses to recognize the upgrade--in existing user accounts only! I created a new account & Firefox picked the upgrade right up. I'm ready to reinstall Firefox or start with all new user accounts--but either option seems to be extreme overkill.
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Firefox 3.6.8
Adobe Flash Player 10.1 r82 (old accounts are stuck at 9.x)
After an update firefox doesn't load anymore. Whenever I try to install anything apt-get fails and warns me about broken firefox packages. It is mentioning firefox branding and chrome something (the latter seems to have gone away after I removed firefox via synaptic) apt-get install -f fails also.
View 1 Replies View RelatedRE: Ubuntu Desktop 10.10 64bit Updates from 2-3 days ago.
Since then, Firefox starts and runs fine the first time. Close it down and later try to restart, error says that Firefox is already using that profile and will need to quit it before proceeding.
System Monitor then shows that firefox and firefox-bin are still loaded (although nothing in the gnome app tray at bottom of screen). Jill those 2 processes and Firefox loads normally.
Should I wait this out and see if later updates cure this? Reinstall Firefox? Submit a report to launchpad?
F11 just updated Firefox to 3.5.2 and now lightning doesn't work as an add on. Anyone know :
1. Is there an update for lightning that will work or
2. How can I roll back the version of firefox so I can use lightning containing my appointments?
just tried to install today's Firefox 4 update but fails, either using Fedora's default installer or Yumex. The download and installation seem to take place successfully but it don't,with the update remaining "available" in the update tools. I just ran a manual installation and this is what I got:
Code:
[root@Hogar ~]# yum update
Loaded plugins: appmarket, fastestmirror, presto, refresh-packagekit, remove-
: with-leaves
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile

Firefox 3.6 "Namoroka" stopped working after a recent update. Clicking on my panel launcher or the launcher in the applications menu does nothing. I even tried starting Firefox from the terminal and got an error message: "(firefox-bin:3592): GLib-WARNING **: g_set_prgname() called multiple times", whatever that means.I would be willing to rip out Firefox and start all over again but I don't know how to remove the 3.6 version. I couldn't find a method in the Software Center for doing that graphically.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI updated from karmic to lucid server edition and now firefox wants to download some php files. index.php which is in the same directory is apparently correctly parsed.
Google chrome tells me that the site may be temporarily down and Opera informs me that the connection has been closed by the remote server.
Under karmic I had a standard lamp server installed and everything worked fine.
This is the first time I post in a forum and I hope this is fine here.
I just moved the scripts from the server to a local machine which I updated a couple of weeks ago to lucid.
Firefox auto update keeps failing so...I need help locating the original installation location.
I tried downloading the update and using archive manager to open rather than save, but still it wanted to save. Now I can't find the location it selected.
I want to locate the downloaded saved and delete the new files, to conserve space.
And I need to learn how to force an Automatic update.
I found a folder named firefox and another firefox 3.0 System will not let me delete / move to trash.
I want to update to latest version. Don't want to remove the original and lose all my bookmarks
After several site:centos.org searches on Google and not finding anything remotely related to this question, I ask, how do I update Firefox 3.0 to Firefox 3.5 without losing any of my settings, history, bookmarks ,etc.?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got Clear Internet and when I used the PPA from Ubuntuzilla I could see the update was available but it said "A recomended security and stability update is available, but you do not have the system permissions to install it. contact your system adminstrator or try again from an account that has permission to access from this computer". Why would a change in isp's do this, it is not logical, is it?

Anyone know how to fix this problem?
Two days ago I did a regular update and since then I can't start Firefox. When I start it nothing happens and when I start it again I get the following message "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process , or restart you computer". I did them both, closing the process and rebooting but I got the same problem again. When I log off I get the following message in the file below. I almost forgot I'm using UBUNTU 9.10 !
View 2 Replies View Relatedit's been quite a while since firefox 3.6.4 was released and yet i don't see any update and it seem to be that there is nothing in the stable ppa of firefox that i found.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've never quite understood why they won't like Firefox just update on it's own. Instead it appears all of the FF updates always have to come through the update manager. 3.6.4 has been out since Tuesday and while I can go to the FF website and grab the tar of the new version I'd rather you know just upgrade my existing version like I've already easily done in Windows.
Seriously if this was a security flaw update and we had to wait this long you'd think people would be up in arms. Luckly 3.6.4 is mainly just extra functionality.
Still am I just left at the mercy of whenever it appears in the update stream or is there an easy way to update what I already have installed verses having two versions of FF?
Ran the update manager and now I can not select text in Firefox. Works in Chromium and Text editor.
