Is there a way to configure hotkeys in Firefox, specifically to disable SHIFT/CTRL/W from shutting it down? I looked through the preferences, and about:config, but didn't find anything.

/etc/rc0.d/S89casper is a link though, so I just edited the file it points to (/etc/init.d/casper) -- seems to be working. I merge a modified "casper" at every boot, next time I build a Remastersys, I'll try to make it permanent.

sudo shutdown -h <time> or sudo reboot from the terminal I get a rather annoying beep sound. What's even more annoying is if I use the shutdown command to specify a time I get a beep every 10 minutes or so.
I've tried disabling the terminal beep in the terminal profile, disabling the beep in System/Preferences/Sound, adding "blacklist pcspkr" to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist, and running gconf-editor from the terminal and setting /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/bell_mode to 'off' rather than 'on'.
I've had this happen three times and only since a firefox update yesterday. When I try to shutdown using the shutdown icon on my desktop, it goes to the splash screen and there it sits.
When I shutdown via terminal, it closes down just fine.
Has anyone else experienced this or have any other suggestions? I will undo that update tomorrow being that i need a break from the computer screen.
I just installed firefox and flash-plugin.The version of firefox is 3.0.10, package is firefox-3.0.10-1.el5.centos.The version of flash-plugin is 10.0.22.87, package is flash-plugin-10.0.22.87-1.el5.rf.But firefox crashes when there is flash in web page, unless disable flash plugin in firefox.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just recently installed slackware 13.37 as a fresh install. In firefox, I currently only have the flashplayer plugin installed, no themes, no other add-ons. Firefox will open fine the first time, however after I close it and try to open it again, I get a message saying that firefox is already running and the process must be closed before another session can be opened. Looking through the open processes, firefox-bin still shows open. I can kill -9 firefox-bin and restart firefox, but then I have the same problem after close. I have deleted my .mozilla folder, which did not help and I have deleted the libflashplayer.

View 4 Replies View RelatedA few days ago an upgrade to FF 3.6.3 was pushed at me by Mandriva. I accepted it, of course.
Since then, firefox refuses to restart after a shutdown, and there are no error messages in any log or in the bash window if I try to start it that way.
I tried a couple of times to uninstall/reinstall it, but no joy.
Finally figured out that if I reloaded the .mozilla directory in my home directory from a daily backup, FF would restart.
This suggests that FF 3.6.3 is corrupting something either while it is running or when it shuts down.
It's pretty consistent, and makes it rather hard to use FF. The lack of error messages is making it rather difficult to sort out.
How do you disable the "System Settings" from the shutdown menu?

View 9 Replies View Related12.2 is up to date and am running the Firefox from Slackbuilds. There was an update to FF a few months ago. Since then FF "hangs" when I close it out. It does seem to shut down better from the home page instead of whatever site I happen to be on at the time of shutting down. I do have a few addons to FF but they were there before the update with no issues. The addons are Gmarks [disabled], Rankchecker, Scribefire, SEO for FF [disabled], SEO Toolbar, Weatherbug and Web Developer. I haven't done any "fixes" so I'm fairly certain I didn't create my own problem.

I was browsing through the Ubuntu Software Center when I came upon Gosa2 2.5.19.1 and thought it might be something to try out. After installation, Firefox seems to have a clean profile. Well I don't want Firefox to have a clean profile; I want to be able to view history from weeks ago.
When I go to Applications>system tools>Gosa, I'm directed to a page that says: "Error 404 Sorry, the requested document could not be found on this server." I've tried uninstalling GOsa, but that doesn't help.
To tell you the truth, I'd be cool to disable GOsa and then get rid of it.
It seems that I will get slackware working fine, just the way I want, and after I turned it off and turned it back on, Firefox and Pidgin refused to run because something was missing that was there before.
After uninstalling them both, and then realizing that the package was somehow uninstalled without me knowing, I reinstalled it in case anything else needed it. That was yesterday, and now today I woke up and started the computer, trying to use Konqueror. Strangely, there's no wireless internet, so I tried to use wicd and it just doesn't start. I try again from the terminal and I get this:

I really don't understand what's going on here. It's pretty annoying because without wicd I can't even use an ethernet connection, so the computer is basically useless to me at this point.

Those are pretty nice, but they don't really work within the theme that I am using (airlines).

I disabled font smoothing in control center, but Firefox is still using smooth/blurry fonts. Everything else is how I want it. How to turn this off? I prefer the old ugly crisp fonts.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to stop acrobat automatically opening and embedding a pdf reader in firefox whenever I download a pdf. I can't for the life of me find a way to turn it off (short of editing a file called pluginreg.dat which clearly states "Do not edit").
I have tried the following:
about:config in firefox gives me no option to disable plugins of any kind (odd, as others report that that is where one does this kind of thing using plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types or some such, but nothing like that is there for me)
edit->preferences->applications is no help. it says "portable document format" should lead to an "always ask" question. clearly, this is being overridden
finally, disabling acrobat settings like "allow fast web view" does nothing.

Firefox does not provide any tool to do that. I am using gnome and Fedora 11. I tried the extension "Keyboard Shortcuts 0.1" it does nothing.
