Try to load my system today and nothing come up, only the terminal window. Whatever I type in is working, like now I type in the terminal firefox and it is how I ended up here. Try to type thunderbird in the terminal and my mail server started no problem. But nothing on my screen, don't no where to go from here.
View 9 RepliesIs there a known problem with the Lubuntu 10.10 image here? I have downloaded it to two different computers, then burned the images to two different blank CD's (different brands) and neither loads. Both only get as far as the Lubuntu menu, once ENTER is pressed at that point to load the LiveCD, a blank screen eventually appears with a flashing cursor at the upper left of the screen, that's it. They were both burned using the slowest burn speeds available.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm attempting to install Ubuntu Netbook remix (however I have tried others) on a 32 bit laptop but after it goes through that ubuntu loading thing, it goes blank after that and I've determined that it's not the cd and it's something to do with the hardware after looking at other posts with similar issues. I do not have an operating system on this laptop.
View 3 Replies View Relatedive downloaded the Ubuntu CD from the official website and burned it twice, once one a dvd and the other on a normal 700MB CD-RW.in both, the screen went blank after the loading part before the main menu (installation, try it blah blah..)what should i do?btw i use a windows XP and here is my hardware details...sapphire hd 5770 1gb, 4 gb of ram,Intel Core i5- P55 .5 ghz, i think that its enough for the minimum of the ubuntu isnt it?
View 4 Replies View Relatedlike any other Linux newb, I came to Ubuntu because my Windows crashed one time too many. And I chose Ubuntu because "it just works". But these past few days that hasn't been true. I'm posting this from a netbook with Ubuntu, and am having no problems whatsoever, but normally I use an Acer Aspire 5920G laptop. I'll include the specs as written on the sticker:
* Intel Core 2 Duo processor T5250 (1.5GHz etc)
* Up to 1024 MB Nvidia Geforce 8600M GS Turbocache
* 2 GB DDR2
Let me know if you need more details, and I'll add them later. Now, what happened was I clicked "hibernate" while leaving Firefox open. (I've done this hundreds of times, no problem) And when I went to turn it back on the next day there were weird graphical glitches in the loading screen, and it booted to the "tty1" prompt screen. I did a lot of googling and found quite a few posts about it, but the solutions either didn't work, or I didn't understand them. After trying several different suggestions from this forum and others, I managed to delete the graphics drivers. That enabled me to boot in low graphics mode, and naturally, I tried a whole bunch of things to make it work properly again. That only made it worse. Now it went straight from the loading screen to just blanking out and turning the display off. So, I tried new things. Over and over. The weird thing is even when I disconnected my harddrive and ran from a Live USB, the problem persisted. Could there be an issue with the graphics card itself? Anyway, after reconnecting the harddrive I tried to boot again. And it suddenly worked. Even HDMI to my bigger screen worked.

I'm trying to build a dual boot ubuntu 8.10 and fedora 10.I have ubuntu sucessfully installed. with a free partition ready for fedora.I cant seem to get fedora past the beginning of the install. Once it says its loading anaconda, my screen either goes blank, or the anaconda fails and the install exits, telling me to reboot my system.I have downloaded the DVD twice. once from the website, and i think when I bruned it it didn't burn right, I then downloaded it from torrent just to be safe and reburned at the slowest speed. It passes the media test.
I have been reading around it may be cause of my video card?My computer is the following.AMD Athlon +2400 XPXFX Nvidia Geforce 6800 GT or something close.80 gig hard drive1.5 gigs of DDR ram.MSI Motherboard not sure of model off top of my head.I really wanna get this dual boot working, As I feel fedora may have advantages over ubuntu. I was going to try to get ahold of another video card, and maybe try that. What do you think I should do
I am new to ubuntu and I would really like to try it out, however I cant do the demo it freezes, I cant boot it either. I got rid of the quiet splash and watched it load. The last thing I saw before it went to just a blank screen was the ubuntu logo and it said loading apparmor then ok, went back to the previous command line screen and said done. Then it was just blank. No mouse, no blinking cursor, nothing.

At first I tried switching between VGA and DVI as well but upon ruling that out, I switch to my on-board video card and that is working thus far, but I'm trying very hard to figure out a way to be able to switch back. Anyways I'll check back in later on if I have any new information I will post.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've installed 10.04 Server on a desktop three times. The install goes well and after the installation, the server reboots and I can login with no problems. I can also look around the file system and run some of the utilities. My network can also see the server. The problem comes when I restart the server for the first time after the installation restart. The system starts to come up and then the screen goes blank. The computer is still running but there is no video signal to the monitor; and the network cannot see the system. I believe this has something to do with the master boot record but I'm not sure.

I booted it up and get to the ubuntu install menu, were my first choice is "English" as language. Then I get to an installation menu were I proceed to "Install Ubuntu Server", but when doing so the screen just go blank and nothing happens. I've searched around for a solution but can't seem to find one.(Note: I've installed Ubuntu Server on other computers without facing this issue, so I don't know what went wrong this time.)

Ubuntu desktop
Ubuntu server
Linux Mint
CentOS
vmWare esxi
The live CD's run, and very nicely at that. But once I install to the workstation they won't boot. I just get a blank screen. I've tried different bootloaders.. I've toyed with different BIOS settings.. I've even installed to different drives (a hard disk and an SSD). Maybe a hint: BSD installs and runs with no problem at all. I have PC-BSD running at the moment. It's nice, maybe I'll keep it. But I'd rather have Linux.
My amateur computer science mind sees this as not a boot loader issue (recovery mode shows Linux seems to be loading to a point.. but I can't see the script line just before the lockup) not graphics related; UB Server and vmWare are text-only and they won't load either probably not a bios issue (liveCDs run and other people run Linux on S20s) not hardware (Windows and BSD run on this one)
I have Microsoft Office 2003 installed through Wine. However, all applications work fine but the outlook mail setting is not working as the POP setting screen becomes blank. Same with datafile (pst) setting screen.

Can someone please help me get this right. I am very new to Ubuntu and want to stay on Ubuntu but Outlook for me is a must have (I tried evolution but decided to stay with outlook).
really wish to customize my GDM for ubuntu 11.4 but failed to do so.....therefore i decided to use alt. such as SLiM.....I could install it properly in virtualbox but when i went to do it on my real ubuntu 11.4 ......the screen stops at plymouth theme or goes blank after loading plymouth theme......then i read further more blogs and made changes and now even if i configure SLim the GDM starts no matter what i do .........
PS : I am new to ubuntu and dont have any knowledge about scripting programming and stuff....
I'm trying to install 10.04 Server on an old Dell Poweredge 600SC I had lying around, and I'm having an issue with the installation. I can boot from the disk without any issues, I select a language for the installer, and I get to the main menu (Install Ubuntu Server, Check Disk for defects, Test Memory, etc). When I select Install Ubuntu Server, it waits a couple of seconds and then goes straight to a blank screen. No flashing cursor or anything.
I've tried some digging on the issue and another thread from a while back said to add "vga=771" to the installer line and when I did that, I got an error from my monitor itself complaining about an incompatible video mode.I know I'm not the only one who has had this issue, I just don't know how to address it. This is the first problem I've ever had on an installation.
I have installed it from usb as the cd installation failed at the point where you decide which type of installation you want (lamp or samba, etc)the installation completed but when booting nothing happens, only a black screen with a blinking cursor. pressing the shift key or any other keys doesn't work.strangely when i boot from the usb flash drive again (and not from the hard drive) the server does boot and asks for the user name and password!i have chosen the guided lvm partition with 20% reserved for system files.my machine is an athlon xp 2GHz (32bit), 1GB, SATA hard drive, nvidia 6600 graphicsmy guess is that its a problem with grub and lvm.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Fedora11 on my machine - the installation failed to start the x server so I had to install with the textbased installer. When the installation completes, I boot up and first I update Fedora with "yum update". Then I install a nvidia driver with "yum install kmod-nvidia". Then I run nvidia-xconfig to make a config file. But when I try to run "X", I just get a blank screen. I can run system-config-display fine, and setup my resolution etc. The log doesnt seem to give me any errors.I have two Geforce Fx3500 card in the machine.

Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB SATA Hard Drive
Samsung 22X CD/DVD Burner IDE
I would like to be able to run Fedora 10 (and Vortexbox, an application to burn and store CD�s) but have been unsuccessful in getting F10 to load. I am a novice Linux/Fedora user. I've been able to load and run Windows XP on the server with no problem. I have downloaded and verified both the x86_64 DVD and the x86_64 Live CD from the Fedora website. With the live CD, the last thing that appears before the screen goes blank and the install freezes is the blue line changing to white. I have tried several different SATA configurations , have turned off all non essential options in BIOS(ethernet, USB support), and have tried loading with fail safe bios settings.
I've made a Live CD of version 10.04 on a machine running 10.04 (amd64). The disk boots fine on a 2nd machine but does not boot on the machine that created it. The CD/DVD is new and works for other things so I don't think it is this. The Live CD gets to the ISOLINUX screen but instead of "Loading" the screen goes blank and the system shuts down. I've tried everything I can think of (the disk works fine on another machine).

Configuration->Plugins->Load
And select the python plugin, claws crashes as soon as I clock ok.
I have been using ubuntu wel a long time now and I know my way around in linux but I recently updated my laptop from ubuntu 10.04 to ubuntu 10.10 all went fine until I had to restart my laptop. I got a purple screen (loading screen) with 4 dots and a oldskool like font which said: Ubuntu 10.10 Right after that the screen goes purple and its like the system halts I hear no login sound etc just a purple screen. So I did a clean install from the 10.10 live cd which booted perfectly fine and the system was also useable like before. But when I installed the system and rebooted it again no problems.
But when I tried to install the proprietary nvidia driver (the recommended one) I got the same problem again the purple screen. After searching a while on the internet I only found posts which had the problem with ATI cards but my laptop is fitted with a Nvidia Geforce 9300 M card. So I tried several things like removing the xorg.conf (read it somewhere) which ofcourse did not work, and booting in graphics fail safe mode which worked. So the point is in 10.04 and 9.10 I CAN use my video card drivers but not in 10.10 is there a solution to this problem? I am talking about the 32 bit version of ubuntu and here's my system hardware profile:

I have been running 10.04 quite successfully, when I upgraded to 10.10, I have a problem with the newer kernels. If I let it boot into the latest one 2.6.35-23, I get the Ubuntu 10.10 splash screen for a second then a blank screen, same with 2.6.35-22. I have to run with 32-25 to get it to load the gui.
I have an AMD Sempron 2800, 1.6GHz pc, but I'm not sure if it's running 64bit.
I've been running Ubuntu 10.10 very smoothly for a while now. Decided to upgrade to 11.04 - managed to corrupt the hard disk the first time by letting the laptop hibernate part of the way through but reinstalled from a live CD of 11.04 and it's now working except for this issue.
If I shut the screen on my laptop (or press the screen off button) either the screen won't come back on or it will but frozen (I can move the mouse but not click on anything etc.) In this state music continues to play (from spotify under wine) and if I press my hibernate shortcut (power button) the computer hibernates, only to wake into the same situation. I've got a Dell Latitude D520, upgraded to a bigger hard disk and more ram - the ubuntu partition has 50gb. Windows is working fine.
Edit: I noticed a sticky thread which includes something about a blank screen but I think this is a different issue?
another post about this. I just don't know how to handle this, as I'm pretty nsee the grub loading menu, but screen just freezes after, no way I can reboot, or open a console. In recovery mode I can log as root in console, though.I run Debian 6, 64 bits. I have an intel q6600 and a nvidia geforce 9800GX2.

I don't seem to find the option in vncserver to allow for that.Also, I am aware of the workaround of starting a new X session, but I can not do that because I can not waste any processing resources.

trying ti install ubuntu server 10.04 64bit server edition.Ok so I have been using the desktop version as an internal server at my home office.Decided to give the server edition a try. Now when I start the installation I get the language choice, then I choose install and then my screen goes blank and nothing happens.
