I have just moved over from Windows XP SP3 to Unbutu 11. I write HTML documents, as I am learning HTML. I would the proceed to save it as a .HTML file in my directory and could then open and use it in Chromium browser.However, I tried this on Ubuntu to no avail and was wondering if any one could let me know how to do it?I have "Googled" it, again to no avail.

So far, it works pretty well. HOWEVER, I want the listed files to be treated as links. I'm using awk to grab the part of the filename I want, but I don't know how to do this out as it fails if there is more than one file. The HTML side would look something like this:

It all works fine up to the actual number of the day- fine with one file, fails with more than one. My code is this:

I have apache httpd server on my Fedora 10I got 2 problems:First : I copied the web page files to its Document Root <var/www/html> & Disabled the default web page. But when I visit http:/localhost ，it shows up the list of files in <var/www/html> as if a ftp server browsed in web page. So how can I set http://localhost load my default web page index.html ?Second :I want to set up a web server on Internet through my router . I applied for DDNS account & input it into router correctly . I set virtual host in server to redirect any access from port 80 to 192.168.1.2:80 in LAN . Just for in case , I also download and running the DDNS software & installed it on PC 192.168.1.2 in LAN . My DDNS provider is oray.cn . It's a Chinese server provider . I don't think there is anything wrong with oray.cn . But if you need its information just visit oray.cn (Google can translate it for you). So I want to know did I miss something to set up a web server in this kind of situation
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm setting up my fedora 10 server. I am currently working on samba. I have added users and created their home directories with their own html directories. I have changed their html directories to 777. However, it appears to be read-only since I cannot create files or folders within it. Can anyone please give me some ideas as to what may be causing this? Probably some extra configurations I may have overlooked? Any help would be kindly appreciated. I also created a general wshare (writable share) directory for all users within home directory but I am encountering the same problem and cannot write to it.

But sometimes and for no readily apparent reason it refuses to save the document with the error message:"Error saving the document <filename>: Write error. The file could not be written". I have upgraded my version of OpenOffice but the issue remains. Once it starts with that error the only way to save the file is to actually abandon my change and restart OOffice. Today I lost an hours stuff as the auto save was also failing but not giving me any warning it was failing. I'm not sure if this is an OpenOffice, file system, Fedora or permissions issue though I've not noticed anything similar with other applications. Have set permissions to 777 but still get the error.

After using wget -r, all the chapters are now in the same folder on my local hard drive. Is there a way to build the chapters in their proper order into a "long"/"full" web page, rather than simply having each chapter as a link/next link on a previous page?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to print some documents I created in OO (.odt), but our printers are not Linux compatible, which means I somehow need to transfer the files to a Windows computer. I can't use the .odt files because MW can't open them (I can't install OpenOffice on the machines), and saving in either .doc or .docx does not work either because it totally messes up the document. So I tried print to file and created several pdfs, but again Adobe Reader on Windows can not open them. I am sort of running out of ideas, and the other thing is I am not really sure if the files I created are pdfs at all. When you open them in gedit they all start with
%!PS-Adobe-3.0 which to me looks more like a post script file.
Im currently using OpenOffice.org Writer to write a hand in document for my course. I've come to the point where I want to create a graphical tree in Draw to present an idea and then add this document into writer. I've tried to use Insert -> Object -> OLE Object, and add the document as an inline frame. This looked pretty ugly though, either it's too small or there seems to be no way to just resize the frame without stretching the whole document into unreadability.

So I have a couple Ideas, but I haven't found how to implement them, maybe someone knows how to do it, and could point me to the right direction.
1.- Use the webcam. Is there any way to use my left thumb to control the scrolling trough some kind of gestures in the webcam. 2.- Create a shortcut. I tried to create a new shortcut and assign it to the bluetooth key of my laptop, but I couldn't find any "command" that means scroll down

When I click to open a .pdf file, it shows nothing without a loading icon on the right hand top corner. I have waited a long, but it did not seem to change. Today I have removed document viewer using ubuntu software center and reinstalled it, but the problem exist. What should I do?

It seams with errors and I'm not sure if it has been ironed out.I have hundreds of old documents that I need to scan. I would like to scan them to searchable PDF's. There is no icon in Documents (where he said he saved it) other than a zip file which doesn't have it in it. The only place I can seem to try to open it from is in OpenOffice itself under "Recent Documents", but when i click on it, it says "filename.odt does not exist", and i cannot right-click to open it with another word processor. I don't have backups enabled I noticed in OpenOffice's settings, but surely the document is somewhere! I checked in the trash but it's not in there. I tried to uninstall firefox, which is what got me in this mess in the first place, the log claims it will remove ~240 mb but failes on a "E: Write error - write (28 No space left on device)" [URL] If I could juggle something onto an external hard drive so I can uninstall firefox I would be out of the wood. Failing that I believe a new install is in order.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been searching the site to find out what the program path is for Ubuntu programs, but can't find what I'm looking for. My search terms were :
- "program path" Ubuntu
- change "program path"
- "open with" "program path"
I came across a few articles but nothing really seemed to help me. Here's the problem; anytime I try to open a PDF file from my browser, I get either the "Open With..." option or the "Save to..." option.
If I select "Open With..." the default has been changed to Virus Scanner (ClamTK) which I recently installed. Admittedly, I was fooling around with virus scanners to see how they work in Ubuntu. But now my Document Viewer won't open up the PDF files. If I select "Save to..." and save the PDF file(s) to my desktop, and double-click the PDF file from my desktop, then Document Viewer will open up the file. What is the program path for me to change the default program back to Document Viewer???
I dual boot Ubuntu 10.04 and windows 7. I have a separate partition where I store all my documents, music, photos and videos, so that I can access them using windows or ubuntu. Now, all the files in the documents folder have disappeared. The folder structure is still there, including all subfolders in the documents folder, but everything that was in the folders is gone. The music, photos, and videos are all still there. I recently tried to set up Ubuntu One.
Postscript: I'm glad to realize that a recent simple backup had saved my data.
Any time I'm following a tutorial or guide on something that involves gedit, the files I'm attempting to edit are opened as blank and I can't save them even if they weren't blank because it strangely thinks they aren't there. (see attachments)
